Hexed (WDAS - 2026)

Why is that disappointing? I thought that is what everyone wants, a traditional Disney film with a proper villain that is not a musical? That sounds like exactly what we're getting.
Have people been complaining about Disney making too many musicals? Because if they have that’s kinda surprising considering how many Disney films have at least one song.

It’s a common complaint, that Disney only knows how to make musicals with no proper villain these days.

I think the sourness of late is more that they haven't produced a good musical since Encanto (between Disenchanted, Wish, Mufasa the Lion King, Moana 2, and the Snow White and Little Mermaid remakes).

I enjoy Disenchanted, Wish, and Moana 2, but, for TLM remake, the Snow White Remake, and Mufasa movie I have to agree, those three suck!🙄

I have the biggest sneaking suspicion, Disney will one day hire the Kpop Demon Hunter songwriting team, to do the music for their next musical.

They are 76 and 81 respectively. It’s time Disney looks beyond these 2, who bless them but they will not be here for much longer. So it’s time to start bringing in the next generation of composers.
Yet Randy Newman is still kicking as he just did music with Batiste so hopefully at least he will come back once more for Toy Story 5.

And Alan Menken recently did Spellbound, so he’s still alive.

Like, come on, guys. Old doesn’t mean obsolete and on their way out.

No it does not mean obsolete, but it does mean they may not want to work until they are 90 or until they drop dead. At a certain point you have to bring in "new blood" to take over for the future. You can even do a collaboration for one or two projects where the old generation like Menken and Newman work with younger talent.

I would hope Disney is brainstorming ideas for a South Korean princess to ride the K-pop wave.
Oh I wouldn’t doubt it, given how huge KPDH has been in the last couple of months. Especially since Disney has been trying to appeal less to musical theater and more to pop singers. (Given they keep hiring pop musicians over broadway musicians).

They should go back to appealing to broadway musicians. That’s what made them who they are today. Without them doing that, they’re nothing.

I don't know if that will be a good idea. As much as I love Alan Menken and Randy Newman, I don't mind that Disney hired new composers. The only new composers that do well recently is The Lopezes and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Lopezes for Frozen 1 and 2 and Lin Manuel Miranda for Moana and Encanto. Of course, I do found a couple potential Broadway composers that might have potential to be the next Alan Menken and Howard Ashman for WDAS. This is from the Broadway musical that's currently playing on Broadway called The Great Gatsby: It's music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Nathan Tysen. Based on the music, it's almost sounded like Alan Menken's music. Am I wrong?

Keeping the trend alive, the end credits of Zootopia 2 features an Easter egg related to Hexed, with it being the face of a three-eyed Cheshire Cat looking character, who also appeared in the official concept art.
