Hexed (WDAS - 2026)

Looking around Bluesky, it's pretty sad that the response to this announcement is mostly about whether or not this is knocking off The Owl House or not. If the movie's only a year and change away, there should have been a lot more to the reveal than just that logline and one piece of concept art (that's raised futile hopes of this being a 2D film) that likely won't reflect the film's final look. It reminds me of how little was given of Wish with its formal announcement in Sep. 2022, and we all remember how that turned out (and how things went for Strange World before that). As I said above, no news on who's voicing the leads even? Or if it's a musical?

It seems like a blend of The Owl House, Halloweentown (the Disney channel movies with Debbie Reynolds) and Harry Potter.

That's why I mentioned earlier, that the execution is crucial. The premise seems very "been there, done that" but maybe with good writing and execution, it can still work, even if it is derivative.

Those crazy people on X.com starting hate Hexed because it reminds them of The Owl House and how much it upsets the fan that Disney said TOH is not a worthy brand. Geez, guys, let it go!
let it go GIF

I'm surprised I didn't mention this earlier, but the Thanksgiving '26 release date also puts it directly against...Greta Gerwig's adaptation of The Magician's Nephew. Which is about youths who are transported to magical land(s). Hope Disney wasn't hoping for IMAX screens!

Yeah, Disney might wanna move up Hexed by 5 days to November 20th so it can play in IMAX for the 5 days it has before Narnia comes out.

Unfortunately, that would put it directly against Sunrise on the Reaping (the second prequel to The Hunger Games), another fantasy movie with the youth market in mind, if skewing older than Hexed. Keeping in mind that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes doing better than expected in its second weekend was one reason Wish bombed so hard, Hexed might have to settle for only getting IMAX matinees if it makes that move.

Gerwig's movie gets ~1000 IMAX screens, per the official movies Instagram account in a post earlier this year.

I image Disney will get the rest, which is ~900. So they are splitting screens, not to mention there are other LPF they can get access to like Dolby.

Well how many IMAX screens are there globally usually?
Officially I believe its 1807 as of the end of 2024, give or take a few, as more are being built, an upwards of 100 could be coming online in 2026. So when I read a studio gets "approximately" 1000 IMAX screens I give it a +/- of 100, which leaves 800-900 left available by the time that these movies come out.

Since it’s being directed by two people who were involved with Zootopia, Encanto, and Moana 2 I’m not really worried.

Sure it could turn out bad, but it also has the same chance of turning out good, even real good. I’m more leaning into it being good, given who is involved.

Also it’s obvious they want to slow drip out the information such as voice cast in order to manage expectations given what happened with Wish, ie they are gun shy and cautious. So it’s not surprising they gave out only little teasers of information. No real reason to read anything into it beyond that at this point.
Disney has the chance to do one of the funniest things ever, with the voice cast.

I mean sure if you want some stunt casting.

Why would you assume that? We haven't heard any details yet about the characters, so lets not assume the race of them.

A leaked casting grid for the main character of the movie talking about the man they’re looking for to play the main character.
