Also I found that the projectors have to manually adjusted for every show which I find very weird and awkward, especially when waiting for Momentous... (you can literally see the mapping being adjusted every 5 seconds). They also have a Disney Ent. technician walking around to report adjustments.
They’re so precise that motorising them is a new thing. Like the video said they can be adjusted, I hope they’re wind resistant.

The projectors in Orlando are so sensitive they had to be isolated from rooftop HVAC vibrations and no one is allowed to walk around the adjacent platforms when they’re in use.

In the short to medium term, I think they need to get better at pitching themselves as a base for a shorter Hong Kong vacation for families. In this regard, they could also take advantage of increasing nervousness about travelling to the United States in places like Australia to offer an alternative Disneyland vacation plus a range of excursions to the surrounding region.

Perhaps I am way off on this, but I think they need to build up the 'resort' element of the complex to give people a reason to stay there for longer periods while waiting for a second park to be viable... if it ever is.

Not exactly what this forum is clamoring for. But a cruise ship would be a cheaper half step that would provide more extended vacation options. 2 park/3 cruise up to 3 park/4 cruise options.

I’m clamoring for it. But over on the West Coast. Would love for one of the newer ships to make its way to LA or SD.

I wonder how effective a wider marketing push would be to target the GBA itself

On paper the GBA has more people than the greater Shanghai or greater Tokyo regions but Hong Kong Disney is stuck with the vast majority of that population being on the other side of the border.

I don’t know the specifics of how that border actually works but I wonder if it is possible for Disney to “grease” that passage for potential guests; a proverbial “buy a ticket for the park or a vacation package and we can fast track a border crossing” as a means of encouraging tourism

Chimelong ocean itself takes advantage of the GBA which is why it’s the busiest non Disney or universal park in the world. I wonder if Disney can make that easier

I also don’t know how good GBA public transport is. I know at least you can do shenzhen to Disney entirely on train via lok mau chai but even that alone is a 2 hour train trip each way. I’d imagine if Guangzhou and Shenzhen’s train networks interlink that would be a long train trip from Guangzhou not to mention somewhere like jiangmen

Mainlanders require a travel permit to enter Hong Kong. Coupled with the fact that many cities and provinces in the mainland require the local government to approve you to even travel to HK makes it feel more like international travel than domestic travel. The permit is also not free. This is actually quite a hassle for people who live within the GBA compared to international travelers to HK who can enter VISA free.

I know HKDL has been doing some promoting recently especially in malls around the major mainland cities and drone shows in Shenzhen to attract more visitors. But besides these “niche” settings, they don’t really have much PR on a national level. I was in the mainland a few months ago and the Mcdonalds happy meal were not from HKDL, but SHDL instead . All 7000 Mcdonalds nationwide in the mainland were promoting Shanghai Disneyland. I believe Mcdonalds China and SHDL have a multi year promotional agreement. This is level of marketing is something HKDL has never attempted before and quite frankly would be hard to attempt now that SHDL has such a foothold.

Also, its going to be an entire "expansion area" over at Stark Expo, so it will take longer. They will probably be using this ride as the leading attraction before 25th anniversary. I think this area would open at around mid-2028-ish.

It’s strange though that they have kinda delayed it into its own mini expansion when it was originally part of the 2016 expansion plan which is finished expect for it now

Yea but this is probably due to COVID and also inconsistencies and changes for all "Avenger Campuses". I mean when they first announced the quinjet attraction for HKDL, they also mentioned how DCA is getting it too but at last they didn't and HKDL isn't either.

So I just got back from a trip to the (amazingly named) chimelong international ocean tourist resort and having now visited that and Shanghai Disney it kinda occurs to me that Hong Kong Disney is a real oddball amongst china’s theme park offerings

One of the most common praises Hong Kong Disneyland gets is its quaint charm, it’s the “Disneyland of yesterday”. But everything else in China id what I can only describe as brash. You think enchanted storybook castle is big? Well that weird whale shark statue in chimelong ocean kingdom puts it to shame.

I noticed the same sort of inconsistency; the same “boldness” that Shanghai has at chimelong, you go from a gorgeous jaw dropping vista with a technological marvel of a ride around a corner to a bit of an underdeveloped mess. It’s like they were given 10 billion to make a 15 billion dollar park but rather than make everything consistent they went all in on half of it then left the other half just kinda sitting there

The reason I bring this up is because both chimelong and shanghai dwarf Hong Kong’s attendence. So it begs the question; is Hong Kong forever constrained by the fact that it doesn’t act like a Chinese theme park or could that be considered a strength that it can build on in the future. Following that does the GBA even have room for Hong Kong Disney when chimelong is well on their way to having 4 parks, 5 water parks and 19! Circuses at chimelong international ocean tourist resort

I think HKDL still has a residual reputation for being small and lacking, in part because it's most often compared to Shanghai Disneyland and comes up lacking in the view of Chinese consumers.

Chimelong parks are very flashy, but they completely lack global IP. They're also generally badly designed and executed. The new DAK-esque park is pretty awful-looking. I think they hired Legacy to design both it and the ocean park, and [it has] that weird Legacy off-brand look.

Give it a generation and the then-current parents in the GBA will come to appreciate HKDL as a unique treasure.

It would help a lot if HKDL would build a shopping village. A grand new sister park would be even better for the resort.

Regardless, HKDL is growing in popularity and attendance. https://blooloop.com/theme-park/news/hong-kong-disneyland-record-profit-revenue-attendance/

I think investments in new attractions as well as good social media coverage by international visitors is helping a lot.

Government site showing a new show building is being built. It’s only 1 floor so probably the Pixar theatre.

I’m going to assume floor area is measured in m^2 (square meters) giving this new building an area of 22442.75 ft^2. What amazes me is someone is building an absolute unit of a mansion, 1703.7 m^2 over 2 plots.

In that same document, I also found a new “horizontal extension” which seems to be completed.

That was seriously confusing me. For some reason I have no frame of reference for square feet or square meters so I was like “is that a normal theatre size and a mansion or a normal house and a theatre for ant’s”
