MK Stitch's Great Escape Replacement— Don’t Hold Your Breath

Despite numerous warnings, it was too scary, especially for MK, a park in which *surely* there would be nothing to makes kids scream the bloody heads off in a hyperventilating panic strapped into a chair they can't get out of or be unable to be in contact with their parents in the pitch dark.

After all, SGE was too scary.

And when SGE closed down, MK's GSAT went *up*.

Disney should license that attraction to Universal. Swap it for Marvel.

Or build it at the DHS, where AE should have been from day 1.

After all, Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey was essentially just a neutered version of the Alien Encounter show.
- binaural sound
- water effects
- inhuman monster causing chaos

XE was scary, and the marketing for it was as well.

There's zero chance Villains will be actually scary. It will just take place in a damp, medieval world.
Yes, unfortunately I don't think Disney has the guts to present it's villains in a Villains Land remotely as scary as they appear on film.
Heck, Disney has been trying to give us back stories on some of these characters of late so that we have an "understanding" of why they are the way they are. Root causes if you will.
They can't just be plain evil anymore.
So, with that I have very low hopes for this land outside of the way it'll look.
Which is essentially the way a lot of what they have been doing has come off for me.
I'd love to be pleasantly surprised - I say that a lot about their latest projects lately - but my faith is low.

I would love to see the land behind Animation Courtyard at DHS be used for a more mature sci fi / horror land

Using the 20th Century properties that are all doing really well right now
Alien, Planet of the Apes, Predator

It would balance out the more kid friendly offerings of Toy Story, Monsters and Mickey, and give the park a more unique identity with attractions that wouldn't easily fit any other park

Are we talking about the same place that has sanitized everything into oblivion?

They’ll remain as they are. The new villains show in Hollywood Studios didn’t mess with the longstanding evil-but-camp formula, so why would Villains Land?
…because that’s lame and behind the times?

If Disney is losing their male audience…and their younger audience…which they are…

Then might want to position for that.

That’s my worry about Villains Land. I am concerned it’s going to be:

A) “We’re misunderstood”
B) “We’re bad but functionally toothless”
C) “We’re kind of evil but feckless”
D) Some combination of all of the above
I guess I don’t see the messages of the individual villains being central to the land. The only time you’ll hear from them in person will be during character experiences, and I don’t think there’s reason to believe those will be any different than they are elsewhere in the parks. The rest will be architecture, food, lighting, vibes and so on. I guess I could see it featuring a bit in the rides but even those tend to be more sensory based than exposition based. I think we’ll see the villains in the rides against some kind of very basic narrative about what’s happening, but I doubt it will go into a ton of detail about their state of mind.

The Disney parks have never been associated with intense scariness. The few times they’ve tried it, it hasn’t gone well. I’d prefer Villains Land to stay true to the spirit of their existing approach.
