You sure? I mean I could be wrong of course, but there were a few years where he wasn't advertised but was still present, mostly in the backlot if not in the parade or on Villains Grove.

For example here is 2021 -

Here is 2022 -

Here is 2023 -

Here is 2024 -

And here is 2025 -

I could go back to 2019 and before if you want and check, but as far as I can tell he hasn't skipped a year other than 2020 when OBB was cancelled.

Yes he stayed in the parade, hence why I said ‘stopped appearing in anything new’. He also stayed in MK’s Halloween show.

They didn’t want to noticeably pull him from everything they had but he certainly wasn’t being added to anything new for a time and he was pulled where they felt they could without anyone really noticing (Treat trail, meet and greets)

I guess I don’t really understand the point you’re making. Maybe they didn’t do anything “new” with him until recently but it’s not like he was “gone” from OBB as it appeared you were trying to claim in your previous post. So I don’t really see or understand the distinction that you’re trying to make here.

Anyways whatever your point let’s just agree to disagree because he has clearly never been completely removed from OBB, he makes appearances in some form every year.

I never said he was completely gone, just they stopped adding him to anything new and putting him out if it wasn’t going to be noticeable he was missing. I’m not sure how to make that any clearer.

They were terrified that the Black Lives Matter crowd would turn on them and stuck between hiding him away entirely and being extremely careful where they were using him. Did you notice the skull and crossbones disappear from his hat during this period?

Ok, well when you said “stopped at OBB a good few years ago” that to me means he was no longer appearing at all, meaning he was gone and removed. So thanks for the further clarification, but still disagree with your distinction. As to me they weren’t really ever not using him even if it wasn’t something “new”. They don’t always do “new” things with each character as far as I can tell. Sometimes they have repeat experiences one year to the next, at least that is my understanding.

As for your second point, I don’t see the same as you regarding that, I’m sorry. I just don’t immediately jump to “Hey they wanted to remove him but were too scared, so just kept him around anyways but didn’t do anything new with him”, just doesn’t make sense in my mind, maybe I’m naive I don’t know. But wanting to remove him doesn’t jive in my mind with his continued appearances at OBB including in M&Gs (every year actually) and parade appearances. So again let’s just agree to disagree on that too.

Either way at this point it’s all irrelevant, he is clearly still part of the Villains cast of characters for Disney and appears he will be for many years to come. So maybe now we can all move on from this.

Okay but that’s what happened. They do a lot of things that don’t make much sense.

I was talking ‘new’ things on a worldwide scale, any new Halloween or Villain or even Princess and the Frog offering (see Tiana’s Bayou Adventure)

He has not appeared every year for meet and greets at OBB. Other than this year actually he had never done traditional meet and greets there just his treat trail. He stopped appearing for meet and greets for a number of years world wide and has only returned to doing that last year.

Believe me or don’t but I’m old enough to not be making up lies on the internet. And yes he is getting used once again, something I’m pleased about.

I must have seen him at his last OGG appearance in 2022? My impression was that they were kind of slowly phasing him out. Sounds like they are walking a tight rope or at least have been but now have the data they need and/ or feel differently as country is in a much different place than it was in 2020.

Whatever, again to me its all irrelevant. Whether Disney changed their mind about him, or never did in the first place and always intended to continue use in him the ways they did, all that matters is the character is still part of he Villains cast of characters for Disney and appears he will be for many years to come.

I'm happy that you're pleased that Disney is using him in "new" ways again. :)

So I finally rode the thing last month. First trip to Anaheim since 2022.

It was better than I expected. By a lot. It felt lively. Not too much dead space. The storyline is cheesy, but it works. Even the lift and drop were way better than they appeared on video. The happy "party" vibe is a lot of fun.

No one was a bigger skeptic of this ride than me, and few were more disappointed to see Splash Mountain go. But TBA works. It would be impossible for it to have the same nostalgic, emotional connection for me that Splash had, but it's a high-quality ride that I will still look forward to going on multiple times every trip.

Oh, and my wife and kids all like TBA better than Splash. They did not hesitate to say so when I asked.

Dont you think most of that would be influenced by what I said above? Again, it’s a popular ride in spite of its shortcomings. Its new. It’s a long, fun and thrilling log ride. What were Splash’s GSATs in its first year I’m wondering? And how do we even have access to this data?
I mean your personal feelings aside, is it really that hard to believe that Tiana's would have high satisfaction scores independent of the ride system? And even if it is partially related to the ride system, so what? That is one of the reasons why ride systems are chosen, for their long term satisfaction independent of the theme overlaid on top of it.

Its why I honestly believe that a modern busbar attraction wouldn't really work these days, to bring up something from the other thread. Its now seen as outdated and less fun, like a baby ride compared to modern sleek ride systems like trackless.

I do think the Disneyland version of TBA works much better than the Magic Kingdom version, as the fast pace of the flume enhances the "it's a party!" vibe, whereas the slower pace of the flume in the Magic Kingdom version gives audiences more time to reflect on how nonsensical the story is.

Sure , if you don’t mind walking around with wet pants and sneakers for the rest of the day

And what is it that we "know"? Everything surrounding his "banishment" was a rumor at best, which in itself appeared to also be an assumption just based on an "insider" from the conflicting stories surrounding the attractions plot.

Also he never really was "banished" from the Parks, because as I recall they never really stopped having him at any of the Halloween events. But maybe I'm misremembering, someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I’ve seen internal documentation where the character performers aren’t even allowed to use the term “friends from the other side”. It’s no rumour. The character isn’t banished, but he has been heavily censored to the point where he isn’t to be associated with anything related to voodoo (his entire character traits essentially). Even in the Disney Cruise announcement, he’s using his new design.
