I see posts everywhere of well-intentioned guests leaving new items--snacks, drinks, etc--outside their room when they check out and notifying people on various forums they have done so. I'm curious if you actually pick up anything.

Yes, I pick up and consume food left outside of hotel rooms by absolute strangers.

I know you are being serious with your post but really?!?!
LOL. I have a general sense how this will go but I see these posts all the time.

Every time I see posts of people leaving stuff, it's always big untouched multipacks of bottled water and I wish people would stop buying them, you don't need them. You can get free ice cold water at your resort soda fountain in the food court, you don't need to buy a Disney refillable mug for the water to work, there's a little button under the Minute Maid Lemonade that say 'water'.

Bring each person a refillable water bottle (and even a big empty soda bottle to fill and keep in the room fridge) and get the free water in the morning and evenings from there and you can even refill them in the parks at dedicated water bottle refill stations and self serve soda fountains (Cosmic Ray's, Connections, Sunshine Seasons, Backlot Express, Satu'li Canteen, Restaurantosaurus) or ask as CM to fill at any quick service counter.

This reduces plastic waste, saves money and then not having to worry about how to dispose of your unused crate of 30 plastic bottles of water.

I have been offered items a few times from people when I have been checking in/taking my suitcases to my room. One time at Port Orleans I was waiting to check in a lady walked over to my husband and I and offered us sunscreen, a case of water, and a box of fruit roll ups. Another time at Pop it was just sunscreen I was offered. Then when I was rolling my suitcases into my room at the Sports this past June the people next to me were checking out and starting to take their stuff out of their room and they offered me fruit and yogurt sticks. There have been a couple other instances as well I just don't remember them as clearly. I never took any of the people up on their offer because I didn't need it or we were there for a short time. I do wonder now why people keep offering me sunscreen though.

Even before the era of Covid this would be a monumentally large Nope.
Probably still not going to get Covid from eating food with Covid on it. It’s a respiratory virus, so doesn’t work that way.

It’s gross though, no matter what but I don’t even eat food after my own family or anyone.
