DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Disney is also not in their heyday right now. Therein lies part of the problem.
Financially they are doing great. They have the most content they’ve ever had. They had a great year at the box office last year. Their Florida parks have proven that they can still weather the new Universal storm. They are consistently making new attractions I’ve very much enjoyed and the average public does as well. Their new stuff sells out in hours. When it comes down to it, they’re doing amazing and are FARRRR from the worst slump they’ve been in. If this is their “slump” period, I’m sure the company is giddy with how good it’s going

The Muppets was not exactly catered to adults only in the generation I came from. This is what I am referring to:

Muppet Babies is a spin-off using baby versions of the Muppet characters, not a core Muppets project.

The fact that they had to create a completely retooled show with a new premise and redesigned characters in order to market the franchise to kids doesn't exactly disprove my point.

For God's sake, the original title of The Muppet Show was Sex and Violence.

Yeah, but we were not getting that?

It's an concept art from over 30 years ago in a vastly different time when the Muppets were super popular. They are not that anymore. This is a much cheaper and more efficient way to keep the Muppets around and could still lead to other attractions being built nearby (there are still backstage areas directly next to and around RNRC that could potentially be moved. So yeah, instead of being poo-poo about something that was never going to happen anymore, I'm going to be excited about what we can get.

Here's some more beautiful concept art from 20+ years ago that never got made to get mad at.

What is that gorgeous first piece? I'm 100% sure I've never seen it.

I miss concept art like this.

This is such a bad choice. Disney forgets theres different demographics going to the park. An article just came out in variety about how Disney is losing in the young men demographic big time.

This decision further proves it. Replacing a teen/adult edgy ride with a preschool puppets theme. What a bad idea.

The Muppets have not been prominent to little little kids in years?? The last muppet movie came out at a point where any kid who watched it would be atleast a teenager by now

I really don't see that as appealing to an adult or teen demographic. Seems Disney is so in in their own properties they forget sometimes people want rides that don't have a character mascoting it.

They are replacing an IP whos fans have high blood pressure and bad backs with an IP where its fans have high cholesterol and arthritis. My initial though was something like a Moana themed Hawaiian roller coaster ride but the target audience would have ran young. Too may crying kids because they couldn't ride.

My opinion, target IP audience should be 10-45. I don't have an answer. But like I said a few pages ago, it's a great ride so it doesn't really matter. Disney knows this and was able to shoehorn some Muppets in to appease their fans. But at the end of the day, it was absolutely time for Aerosmith to go. Even with all the other glaring issues in the park, this is money well spent even if I don't agree with the choice.

Oh don't get me wrong, in 2025 I don't consider Aerosmith Rock and Roller Coaster to be edgy or current (even if I like the band). Even at that time Aerosmith was already becoming a bit of a legacy act (but did have some current hits).

Some rides I think benefit from not being cutesy or character driven. Especially teenage men I feel need something to do, not everyone likes Star Wars or Marvel (Variety's article was all about this).

They could've had a new rock and roller coaster with currentish music hits by various artists or tie it all to a new artist.

Even if I don't like rap/hiphop it's hard to ignore how huge it is especially with a younger crowd.

I feel Eisner knew how to appeal to teens that aren't all in on the Disney properties and Iger has zero idea.
