Wearing Mouse Ears Outside Of Disney

Truckers hats and ball caps are the norm. Disney mouse ears are not. Caps with team logos are seen everywhere. Someone that many miles away from a Dis park wearing ears stands way outside what is expected as an adult.
They were not always the norm. Participating on a fan forum is also not the norm.

Where I live (1000 miles from Disney World) I always see people wearing Disney shirts or caps, but yesterday was a first. There was a man in line at the supermarket wearing mouse ears.

It has everything to do with conversation. You’re casting aspersions on someone while actively engaging in activity others would consider just as weird, if not weirder.

Bingo!

Creating an account on a Disney fan site. Choosing your favourite character as an Avatar and/or screen name. Discussing your favourite attractions and meals and resorts over and over. It's all weird to someone. The judgement with a complete lack of self awareness is certainly something.

Heck, even going to DisneyWorld more than once is crazy to some people.

Wearing mouse ears is unusual, but it's also a totally arbitrary line in the sand that some would deem "unacceptable".

Thank goodness my Disney keychain is too small to be noticed.

People make judgments every day. It’s a necessary part of life.

There’s a big difference between “is it weird (to me)” and “do I care.”

If I saw a lone adult man wearing Mickey ears outside of Disney I would think it was weird. But I wouldn’t care about it because it doesn’t affect me in the least. People are different. To each his own as long as they’re not hurting me.

Kudos to the person that fills young at heart and it made them happy, instead of giving into perceived peer pressure or what others might think. This world is very negative and everyone is angry and judgemental. Look around when you are at the store everyone seems unhappy and on edge.

I say anything that makes YOU smile that doesn't impact or hurt others, then do it and enjoy your smile.

I feel like there’s a life lesson here. As long as it’s not inappropriate offensive overly mean or morally wrong then do whatever you want. The rest is someone else’s problem.
Not necessarily. That leaves out the definition of good manners, which is to conduct yourself in a way that makes others around you comfortable.

This would encompass things like dress and behavior appropriate to particular venues or occasions.

It's certainly not an everyday sight so I can understand it registering as a bit strange or different. My first thought would be to just accept it, it's his head, his life, his choice and he's not harming anybody but it would register internally as a bit unusual.

I may also consider that it could be an adult with learning difficulties, that's not to imply anything cruel but could be a possible explanation to the question "I wonder why a grown man is wearing Mickey ears when not in Disney".

I would never dream of asking anyone the question as by default the implication is that it's strange, let people do what they want and if it's not what you would do then just let them be. Also if I had a dollar for every weird thing I've done or said in my life, I'd probably be a millionaire by now (according to my wife anyway)

I wear Disney ball caps and shirts quite frequently, I can’t imagine wearing ears in public though, I’m sure there’s a lot of people who find an adult wearing a “Grumpy” shirt in public odd too though.

Funny how we all have different ideas of what is and isn’t appropriate.

All private.

Not every discussion forum is private.

It's also easy to register for and view forums.

I'd use the term "private" pretty loosely. It's not like a personal social media page one can restrict to certain people.
That’s not what I meant when I used the word. Participating in a forum is not the same as parading around in public wearing Mickey ears.

I see them all the time at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Ive seen two at Kings Dominion. I saw one person with an ear hat at Six Flags America even. Funniest one though was an ear headband in NYC riding the ferry to the statue of liberty... like, WHY?
