Wearing Mouse Ears Outside Of Disney

Outside of the specialty ones... I think the built in perception of mouse ears is they are a kids thing. Yes, you see adults wearing them at the parks, but the fact they are wearing them is kind of the stand-out in itself.. because they are historically associated with a children's thing. From the old MMC, etc.

I don’t even wear them at WDW. Had them as a kid. Was gifted a novelty pair as a young adult (long gone.)

I see a lot of adult women wearing them at the parks, rarely men. Not that that’s a reason for anyone to do anything, but there’s a limit to how much I like to stand out lol.

It's certainly not an everyday sight so I can understand it registering as a bit strange or different. My first thought would be to just accept it, it's his head, his life, his choice and he's not harming anybody but it would register internally as a bit unusual.

I may also consider that it could be an adult with learning difficulties, that's not to imply anything cruel but could be a possible explanation to the question "I wonder why a grown man is wearing Mickey ears when not in Disney".

I would never dream of asking anyone the question as by default the implication is that it's strange, let people do what they want and if it's not what you would do then just let them be. Also if I had a dollar for every weird thing I've done or said in my life, I'd probably be a millionaire by now (according to my wife anyway)

I agree with this idea. I have seen other people who have that type of problem wearing things that little kids usually wear. I'm just glad it makes them happy. However, if he is doing it to just be noticed, then that's different to me.

I’ll be honest, I can’t wear them. But frankly anyone over the age of about 8 who wears them anywhere other than the parks / resorts looks ridiculous.

I might give a pass to them at the airport or on a flight to the parks. Maybe. If I’m feeling charitable.

There again maybe it’s more normal in the US than Europe / UK.

Edited to add: Disney hats are fine. Just not the Ears.

The only place I will wear my Minnie/Mickey ear headbands outside the Disney parks is my classroom, but only on special dress up days. I will wear my Halloween ears on Halloween or my Christmas ears before our holiday break. But I wouldn't wear any ears on any other random day.
