Why couldn't they expanded the MK in a similar fashion for Cars instead of destroying a beloved classic attraction that fit within the theming?
Probably because there isn’t the same level of space to extend out into a parking lot as the parking lot in MK is.. not here? Realistically, I don’t think there was enough space to do both villains and Csrs without taking down the river anyway. Or a realistic way based on how they wanted to do it. The river was 100% being affected either way

I hope they send up some height balloons soon, just to double-check the sightlines from Galaxy's Edge...

(...unless they already did and I missed it...)

Are height balloons even needed anymore? I'm sure they have all sorts of modeling software to drag a building around until the software tells them they're good from specific/all angles. I'd imagine the LiDAR work they did years ago might be helpful in this department

Because they want to remove the water and the island. Simple as that. It was never “we want to add a cars ride, where should we put it?” but always “we want to get rid of TSI and the surrounding water, what can we put here?”

I think that’s a little bit of an over simplification.

I’d love to know how far along the plans got that kept part of the River.

Will more of that car park get used for other things now, like future expansions? I know it's not a great deal of space for a new land, but in terms of space for other show buildings for attraction expansions like over in galaxies edge, is that possible? Just seems odd that there's this giant building in the middle of a car park, which I'm guessing after it's built won't be used as a car park?

It's the cast parking; if they replace all of it they're going to need to build a replacement somewhere nearby.

They know even just losing this chunk is potentially going to cause issues with overflow parking.

Balloons are easy.

Digital scans are data heavy files so they’re not exactly nimble. They also typically collect data as point clouds (millions of dots), so you still really want someone to take that data and turn it into a more usable model.

A park like Epic Universe was built using digital models so it’ll be easier but will also require proper coordination and updating of files.

AR glasses that could geo-locate a model and properly render it in context would definitely be a great use case for that type of technology.

Because they wanted the river and associated attractions gone.

More technical to say they preferred to remove the river and associated attractions above the option of not eliminating them. We know they explored both options.

The reason could be motivated by a baseline desire to get rid of them anyways or an operational preference or both or even more multifaceted reasons that led to this final conclusion.

I do think parks ops and operations had a large hand in it myself. They are way better off guest flow operationally with a very clear primary bypass for a number of their e tickets. Different than Disneyland that never solved the ROA flow issues with Galaxies Edge not being the clear shortest distance.

Yeah….. They should have just put galaxies edge on Main Street! ;) haha

Not at all. But the ROA has only gotten busier and busier with more demand at Disneyland. I actually suspect there will be quite a noticeable difference in guest volumes in the main Frontierland walkway (parade corridor) due to this project. It’s no longer the shortest distance between most E tickets.

E-ticket alley, as it were, will be the new bypass. At Disneyland - Galaxies edge is too circuitously located to change from how you go between Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder.

I feel like with the height of the rockwork in GE, even if there is sightlines, it would be very minuscule and you would have to really be looking for it on purpose, which I know feels like a full-time job sometimes to Disney-Nuts like us lol.....

This looks like a scene from ‘The Day After’…..or am I showing my age?
Looks like a scene from an apocalyptic nightmare.

Surprised to see the ‘PizzeRizzo’ sign still there.
I was under the assumption this was to be salvaged and saved….?

It will get way worse before it gets better....lol But this is what has to happen to change the land... Wait until they take that building in the center down....

Umm.. this is from 18 days ago.

And that's what a pile of bricks looks like when you take up a brick flooring.

Later aerial shows the bricks taken away and it's all clean-swept.

For now.

But, that's what deconstruction looks like. They didn't detonate a bomb.

Wonder if they pushed the coaster building back further to leave options open for future attractions? If they ever take out indy/backlot and build a land back there... maybe they can loop it into Monster's courtyard. Or possibly this gives them an avenue for making a third monsters attraction if this is so popular.
Yeah that was my thoughts as well. They are expanding the berm and could work Northeast or Southwest as well.

Still hoping they expand GE to include Starcruiser is a queue and dining space.
