DHS Disney Animation-Inspired Experience Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Got to laugh that Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris us often considered the worst Disney Park, yet WDW is happy to duplicate its Ratatouille, its Animation building and now its name. No wonder they're chaning the name of the park to Disney Adventure World, so Hollywood Studios can get the Walt Disney Studios name 🤣

So glad to see the rest of the courtyard will get a visual upgrade. I really don’t like the blue box look they’ve had for a while, and changing it to look like the Disney lot is a perfect fit

As the Parks Blog post said, the building may be familiar from the Once Upon a Studio short that Disney released for their 100th anniversary. Despite the hype surrounding its release, its substance amounted to little more than a social media post (it had no plot and seemingly existed only to play "spot the character"), and was quickly forgotten by most people.
Once upon a studio was amazing.

Much prefer the desert colors over the drab grey and blue, and it's nice to see some details of the original Burbank lot (like the Buena Vista gate and Pluto's Corner). Hopeful with the apparent inspiration from OUAS too. Neat little project!

I love the idea that for some reason they haven’t even considered plans to fix AC until this very moment. Why would the development of a new land take years? They don’t have plans for, say, a Monsters Inc land ready to go for this spot? Why is the only way to do something “quickly” to do it cheaply?

Most people here were happy when the Play Pavilion died but for some reason we’re all giggly about its second coming.
The PLAY! pavilion was taking over space originally occupied by several attractions and was intended to more or less be a permanent relocation of the M&Gs. It also didn’t make a great deal of sense in EPCOT. By contrast, this ticks a few boxes by being consistent with the overall theme of the park, connecting back to the original use of the building, improving the organization of the park by eliminating Star Wars location no. 3, reintroducing some desperately needed things like a play area, etc. I agree that the attraction itself does not sound especially impressive, but it’s a substantially better use of the space that thematically and visually draws it into the HS central corridor. If you think about it in the context of the MuppetVision tradeoff and the available backstage space that still remains locked up, you’re bound to be disappointed by anything going in here, but in terms of refreshing without rebuilding, it’s miles better.

They already have Guardians and could get others not considered a violation. X-Men perhaps. I know the contract dispute but their are work arounds. Would not surprise me to see Marvel at DHS in next decade.
It’s not a “contract dispute” and they can’t use the X-Men.

Marvel belongs to Universal in Florida and *gesturing at what Disney has done with the IP in other theme parks* thank goodness.

My first thought when I started reading this was they should make a dark ride in the vein of Once Upon a Studio. It takes you through the studio as the characters come to life, hijinks ensue, etc. Then expand the rest of the area around it to legit celebrate animation from all their studios across the entire library, not just the big hits.

I know this is "temporary”, but it is an idea that could work very well if flushed out as the actual long-term solution.

This is going to be primarily a M&G site, just like it is now.

Disney cares about “thematic consistency” only when it can be used as an excuse for budget-minded, lackluster additions. There is no reason something thematically consistent cannot also be substantial, especially in a park with enormous thematic flexibility like Studios.
connecting back to the original use of the building,
Yes, it’s a vastly less interesting version of the original attraction reflecting decades of poor decisions.

Why does the park need play areas? Why does it need things for families to do? This is a particularly relevant question since they just killed a family attraction to build yet another coaster.

“Miles better” is a massive overstatement. It is, at best, a minor upgrade. And there is absolutely no reason to consider it outside of its larger context.

The Monsters coaster isn't replacing anything, and the family attraction is getting replaced by another family attraction

If all you're gonna do is complain in every thread, at least try not making things up

Muppets died to make way for the requisite “land” around the new coaster designed to move overpriced ride reservations. Whatever gets shoved into the old theater is the very definition of an afterthought.
