Refurbishment coming to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort lobby

Two articles on here have said "Disney says the lobby’s Victorian cage elevator will be relocated opposite the bar." That's not what Disney said. They said "Opposite the bar, guests will still find the Victorian cage-style elevator that fans know and love." I'm about 99.9% sure they're not relocating the elevator, which would be a massive undertaking, for no apparent purpose.

I find this exciting. :D
Wow, once again Disney is going for the Adult alcohol lounge venue and leaves behind the family concept. They keep missing the mark and truly lost Walts formula. I guess the almighty dollar is blinding them but in the end this will hurt them.
I don't see how it hurts them. They turn dead space into profitability, take some of the heat off of upstairs lounges, and I'm certain they'll have tea, coffee, soda, bottled water, etc. for those who just want a quick drink on the first floor.

People who drink are not all rowdy, degenerate drunks.

My error, fixed.

I think I'll pass...we stayed there once not really our cup of tea....although both the Grand Floridian Cafe was very nice and the 1900s Park Fare had great food and were both a lot of fun for us...however, the monorail really wasn't that great of transportation to travel for us. We will just stick to the Beach/Yacht and Wilderness instead...

Are they replacing the carpet? It seems rather muted and dated. The lobby needs a more vibrant carpet but still classically Victorian.
Yeah it's the carpet that needs a change more than anything. I don't know how many times they changed lamps and furniture, I think practically did just the last renovation. Wouldn't it be better without carpet..

It's the Grand Floridian. It has always been a more adult experience. There are plenty types of other hotels to visit if you want an experience more appealing to children.

stopped by to hear the piano player and let me just say… this hotel shouldn’t be open in the current state. So many construction walls and CM’s are huddled around talking to themselves.

Also the new uniforms at the Grand look really odd and fit very baggy - looks very sloppy. The iPads hanging off the neck doesn’t really scream upscale resort either.

I can't remember the last time I walked through GF and not thought that I am so glad I am not staying there.

Say what? And why to they have ipads hanging on them?

Anybody have a photo of this?
The iPads are used to check in guests and perform other front desk tasks that were previously handled by a desktop computer. They're not part of the costume, theming or storyline. In this case they're no different than room keys going to a decisively non-victorian magnetic/RFID chip card with Bluetooth technology.

They have Cast Members with iPads in the lobby to assist people checking in… supposed to be more personable and friendly I think. Anyways, the iPads have a case on them that makes them easier to carry, and they have a lanyard attachment so they can wear the iPad like a satchel (which I think you can see in the Polynesian Tower pic; not my picture BTW).
