I'm sorry but this parade is beautiful and I love it. It's not perfect by any means but it's really good. You guys can hate it all you want but not me!
I don’t think anyone hates it, some just hate the fact that it could be so much better in places. Hopefully it’ll be improved overtime, but to me, this doesn’t feel yet anyways like one of those MSEP or Spectro classics that lives in our minds forever

These photos show the royal dancers have their faces illuminated, but only some of them. Do they only sometimes illuminate them?
Had to work quite hard on the photos to make them visible. There is also a factor of where on the parade route you view from. In some areas, there is some ambient light from the parade light towers. So really it is just a very variable situation.

It looks like the twinkling lights in the upper parts of their costumes are what illuminates their faces. So it's inconsistent and relies on the position of their head as well as those particular upper lights activating. That's why still photos show them lit up while others don't. At least that's what it looks like to me.

Paint the Night did this with some of its street performers too. Like these-

At least one of the main Disney IP characters in PtN, Tinkerbell, actually has dedicated mini spotlights mounted to her head that keep her face constantly illuminated throughout (other parades may have done this with certain characters too but I don't recall). But that doesn't appear to be the case with any of the characters in Starlight, not even Tinkerbell).

So do you think that it is perfect as is? If not are there things you would change? Anything you would improve? Anything you would add or delete?

I don’t hate it. I just think it should be considered a work in progress. There is much that could be done to make it better, in my opinion.

I literally put in that post "it's not perfect by any means" lol. And yes I would add more ground performers with more lights on the costumes and a couple of smaller floats to along with them.

I was there last night, and loved it! Looking forward to going again tonight

I was in Frontierland for the second parade too (I was about 5 feet to the right of the photo)

I don’t remember seeing the Fog/steam snort from Pepita last night. Is that what you’re referring to?

She did (I have a photo of it)

Do you happen to remember where any of them are, by any chance? The spot I picked last night didn't work too well for the ground characters

I don’t hate it. I think it’s cute and I like the nods to the part. But like many recent Disney projects it is not amazing. For all the hype and for no major additions opening anytime soon, it needed to be more IMO
Unfortunately, this seems like another case where the easiest improvements are actually pretty cheap (relatively). They, once again, spend a fortune on large components but skimp on the smaller parts. Repurposed Spectroballs and 15-20 more street performers would go a long way here. But, once again, capex was approved but ops wants to skimp.

They should rehire all of the extra summer performers they got this year and put them in lighted vests starting on Labor Day.

Most of the other critiques here deal with different creative preferences. Those debates will always exist. But I think we can all agree they need more between floats.

Who hates it? Only thing like this I’ve hated was Move it shake it. Haha
I know I'm dropping a bomb with this, and I'll speak only for my impressions as someone who's been around here for a few decades. There is a very vocal group on this board with a lot of time on their hands who feel the need to find something negative to say about absolutely everything Disney does. That portion of the community seems incapable of any kind of positive thought about Disney and sometimes almost reach a level that could be described as vitriol, especially when they try to aim it at named Disney employees. When those members have nothing but negative (and sometimes aggressively negative) views all the time it reads to many as hating.

It's totally fine to not be a fan of a specific thing Disney does. Not everything can (or should) be 100% for absolutely everyone but if anyone views absolutely everything with negativity it really does get old. Justifying it as 'discussion' doesn't change that.

I don’t hate it. But it would be fake to not recognize its many short-comings as well. Complacency from the consumer drives complacency by TWDC. We should be speaking up if we want it to be better. The reason we still run a tired and busted Halloween parade is because the consumer is complacent and buys the Halloween tickets regardless of what is offered. If we don’t take a stand then we are the problem.

Absolutely and I think we all know who among us complain about everything.

Don’t touch BtY! We will end up with a 12-minute parade with no villains!

Honestly, at this point it might be wise to simply acknowledge that Disney isn’t nearly as good at themed entertainment as they once were and expectations need to be lowered across the board.

Except…

The international parks disprove this. The string of failures in Florida involves something more than simple incompetence. At some level, it’s a choice.
Tokyo/OLC and occasionally Paris proves that Disney is still capable of making high quality shows and parades. Tokyo is the only Disney Park that still makes actual anniversary parades instead of cavalcades.
