Hoppers (Pixar Spring 2026)

Since a majority of the movie will probably be set in the animal world I don't think it'll make much difference.

Also what did you expect, this movie has been in development for a few years. So its not like they were going to change animation styles mid-stream.

Gato will have a different animation style, so you have that to look forward to.
I'm definitely looking forward to Gato. Pixar just needs to finish cleaning the pipeline with this movie.

I think there is a place for this type of animation style, as it likely has its fans, you just happen to not be one of them.
I'm not a fan of ugly simplistic animation.

However K-Pop Demon Hunters from Sony Animation is pretty incredible. It's like Sony and Pixar traded places.

And yet the masses seem to eat up the simple animation used by Illumination. So it’s not all about complex animation to many. We’ll see how this one turns out in 8 months.

For me it comes mostly down to art style. If it comes down to I'm not sure if I want to see something in theaters. A compelling art style or animation style can sway me.

I don’t quite understand why anyone even cares. The design hasn’t bothered me 🤷🏻‍♂️
Do you remember when it seemed like every other movie had a tint to it? Or when action movies decided that handheld camerawork could make scenes feel more intense? They're stylistic choices and they work for some people and not for others - or some movies and not others. I think it's like that with animation style.

More manic expressions, speed up animation and geeking out moments just like Elio. <sigh>
Can we please just put this on D+ and go directly to Gato?

I’ve only seen clips of K-pop, but doesn’t this describe parts of that film as well?

Yes, very much so. More so than anything I’ve seen from Hoppers.

And I very much like K-Pop. Ringing endorsement, but it has half a foot in Asian anime influencing its animation choices - as it should.

In fact, doesn’t this describe a great deal of mainstream animation, very much including classic Disney shorts and, particularly, classic Warner Brothers shorts?
Yes. An it is getting old.
it makes sense in K-pop because it is emulating the look of a Korean magna. It makes sense there. It doesn't make sense with woodland creatures.

If you want photorealistic animals, the Disney live-action remakes are right there and they’re awful. That’s largely due to the fact that a big advantage of animation is the ability to exaggerate expression, to free performances from the limitations of physical bodies.

Look, if Disney wanted to bring back the more restrained style of the renaissance classics - and hand-drawn animation in general - I’d be all for it. But even there you tended to have sidekick characters - who, along with the princesses, are the figures that resonated with audiences - who squash and stretch.
