If you didn’t tell me that was Monsters, Inc., I wouldn’t know it was.I do wonder if they'll take any inspiration from the Monsters Inc sushi restaurant they're building on the Disney Adventure

Let’s hope not. That looks totally devoid of any character. MM was full of beautiful details. This would be a substantial downgrade.I do wonder if they'll take any inspiration from the Monsters Inc sushi restaurant they're building on the Disney Adventure

I live in a small, rural city (30k-ish population) and we have multiple successful places that sell sushi. I use that as a barometer for the average American taste since the area is pretty provincial. Japanese food is very much apart of mainstream US food culture.I know malls aren’t a thing in the US like they are in much of the world, but any given Canadian food court 2/10 spots are Japanese, one is usually Chinese and one is usually SE Asian of some sort.
I feel like Japanese food is fairly prevalent and palatable enough for Americans these days. It’s been Americanized. Hopefully those electing for a Japanese themed restaraunt would understand what an American-Japanese restaraunt would serve.
Even just thinking of the major American cruise operators. Usually they start with a steak house, then Italian… but pretty quickly a sushi restaraunt is the next specialty the lines go to.
Not to mention Monsters allows them to go a tad off script.
Thatds definitely more of a cruise ship approach of simplicity, maybe more in terms of food once we get a menuIf you didn’t tell me that was Monsters, Inc., I wouldn’t know it was.
They don’t have too look far for inspiration.

Agreed. It says asian due to the painting on the windows, but in no other way does it even remotely indicate Monsters. I'm guessing the janky looking chairs are supposed to represent Sully? If you didn’t tell me that was Monsters, Inc., I wouldn’t know it was.
If you look up, you can see silhouettes of monstersAgreed. It says asian due to the painting on the windows, but in no other way does it even remotely indicate Monsters. I'm guessing the janky looking chairs are supposed to represent Sully?![]()

Not even the correct shades. There’s blue chairs for Sully and green chairs for Mike! So clever!
Ah, yes. I see those now. Totally missed them the first five times I looked at the photo. I know I'm not the only one.If you look up, you can see silhouettes of monsters
Yeah, but that's true for everyone all the time, right? If you look up, you can see silhouettes of monsters
And those not-so-common plants such as succulents and bromeliads are so other-worldly!!!There’s blue chairs for Sully and green chairs for Mike! So clever!
California rollYes, sushi is very popular. However, just take a look at what has happened to WDW menus over the last decades. If Harryhausens opens as a sushi restaurant it won’t stay that way for long - and I’m skeptical that they’ll bother. At most I’d expect one or two sushi options.
I'd be surprised if it didn't have sushi at all.Yes, sushi is very popular. However, just take a look at what has happened to WDW menus over the last decades. If Harryhausens opens as a sushi restaurant it won’t stay that way for long - and I’m skeptical that they’ll bother. At most I’d expect one or two sushi options.
A penguin that doesn’t eat raw fish…the math ain’t mathingI'm an East Coast snob and I don't eat sushi. I'm too aware of marine microbiology to eat uncooked 'meat.'
I'm also darned confused why this is a topic in the M.Inc Land thread.
