I’m in a mood to rank stuff.

Best Summer movies I’ve seen so far:

1. How to Train your Dragon
2. Elio
3. Lilo and Stitch

I thought I was going to put Stitch at #2 but then I realized I can’t remember a damn thing about a movie I saw less than 6 weeks ago. Very strange.

Well when the live action is basically just a retelling of the animated movie (with a few slight changes) its easy to forget.

Though one would wonder then why the live action Dragon ranks higher, as its a beat-for-beat retelling with no changes. Newness factor?

I’ve never seen the animated version of How to train your dragon.

Yeah that’s what I thought about Sitch just still very weird that I could barely remember anything considering I only saw it a few weeks ago

I haven't seen the live version of HTTYD, but I saw the original film not too long after it came out. I was really impressed by it...but have yet to rewatch it or see any of its (allegedly very good) sequels.

Someday I'll get around to it. I'm really pretty bad at watching non-Disney/Pixar animated films, even as those studios aren't exactly producing instant classics at the moment. Though I haven't been able to make myself sit down and watch Wish or Moana 2 either.

I only went to DCA one time before 2010. In 2001 a few months after it opened. I can’t remember - what existed in TSMMs place back then? On the pier and in place of the facade I mean. I know there was no attraction there using up backstage/ expansion pad space pre TSMM.

I just need anyone who is already at that stage of life to tell me... how is it visiting the parks in your 50s-60s?
I'm almost a year older than DL. I've aged out of Incredicoaster, was never able to do spinners but ride everything else, have fun joking with CMs and other guests, impulse-buy dumb stuff, and walk 10+ miles each weekly visit. Does that give you hope?

I have hope!! (Hopefully I can still ride the big coasters though)

Depends. Do you take care of yourself? I eat like crap and barely exercise.

Depends: not yet, maybe someday soon on the roller coasters.

Ha! I lived on red meat, baked goods and chocolate until my 60s when I had to change because I'd broken my liver. Chose keto because I despise vegetables.

I am a lazy bum. Hate sweating. Have had bouts of swimming and cycling but that was a long time ago. My Disney days are pretty much all of the exercise I get.

Family genetics are mediocre. I'm kind of shocked that I'm not shuffling around in a rest home like I used to think happened to people my age.

And yinz are coming along when health outcomes and lifespans should be getting better. You will all have a great time at the 100th. I don't plan to be there.

Thank you. So there is hope for me! A lot of meat, salt, dairy. I enjoy dark chocolate and eat a fair amount but don’t really indulge too much in overly sweet foods. Eat smaller to moderate portions but often eat fatty food. Been trying to get more vegetables in. Not enough fruit. Moderate amount of bread, pasta and rice. Oh yeah I go through sticks of kerrygold salted butter at a rapid pace.

Hey, you may not be at the 100th but you know what - if someone gave me the choice of experiencing Disneyland in the 60s or being at DL for the 100th I’d go with the former hands down.

It's hard you know. Way harder than a young whippersnapper like yourself could ever imagine. I have not long ago crossed the 50 mark myself, and things just change. You can no longer do thrill rides, such as Pirates with its drops, or climb into difficult access vehicles such as Peter Pan. And then the moving about the parks gets so cumbersome. I use a rollator, but because of cognitive decline I often forget where I parked it and can't retrieve it when exiting a ride. Plus at my age I find if difficult to adapt to the new stuff anymore, such as Pal Mickey and faxing my hotel reservation.

Temper your expectations for Rebirth.

Just saw it. Started slow. Not sure the slow start for the attempted character development really paid off. With that said I enjoyed it and thought they managed to do a fair amount of original stuff for a seventh installment. The mutant- Dino’s were my least favorite element of the movie. Loved the raft scene.

Overall I think at best it might be my third favorite JP movie after the original and Jurassic World. It’s 100% for sure better than Dominion or Fallen Kingdom. I tend to prefer singular journeys/ adventures to overly complicated movies with jump cuts all around the world. After the recency bias fades I might have it more like # 4 or # 5. I know Lost World was Spielberg and most likely a better film considering that alone but never loved dinosaurs in San Diego. And I cant ever forget how ridiculous the girl gymnast kicking the raptor in the face was. JP III was good but felt more like a straight to DVD/ streaming kind of movie. All this to say, even with its flaws this might be my third favorite JP movie.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know there are people that have. Its just not getting good reviews though. But as long as you enjoyed that is all that matters, just like any content out there.

I personally didn't enjoy it, thought the franchise has basically jumped the shark at this point. Because its always needs to have a bigger more scary dino waiting in the wings as the climax final, and after Indominus I didn't think they could go much bigger without being ridiculous, well Rebirth said hold my beer we'll create an Alien inspired dino. And that isn't even an exaggeration, they literally designed it after a Xenomorph crossed with a Rancor from Star Wars. Universal isn't even hiding it anymore that they are just trying to copy Disney at every turn.

Thanks. Yeah I agree on the jumping the shark. It didn’t ruin it for me but I do think it was completely unnecessary.

Don’t want to breathe any life into this rumor but apparently they might be looking to do something with the big pond adjacent to BTMRR. Aka the old tunnel/ bridge over Bear Country in Mine Train Thru Natures Wonderland. Which I happen to think might be one of, if not the most important places in Frontierland from a place making perspective. I said so in a post a few months back too. Meaning it’s as good as gone. At first I thought maybe I’m just unlucky in that my favorite rides at both DCA and DL were rethemed and my favorite place to relax at DL - Magnolia Park was removed with my favorite place to relax at DCA (Paradise Gardens) most likely to be rethemed/ altered in the near future. But it makes sense if you think about it. I like these spaces because I appreciate the break from people. I appreciate the beautiful place making. To some within Disney, they re just underutilized spaces.

Losing the Mine Train rockwork + Big Thunder Ranch for long, empty walkways to Galaxy's Edge was already a blow. Such an underutilized waste of space in a park that really doesn't have long, empty walkways.

Losing the last bit would be sad, and it would also impact the Rivers which already don't feel as secluded as they used to after being shortened.
