Worth pointing out that the concept of docking the Riverboat and making it a restaurant (quick service or snack stand) is something they've considered for decades, even in Disneyland- the scrapped Discovery Bay land was going to have the Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia permanently docked and used as dining space. Who's to say Magic Kingdom and the Liberty Belle couldn't get the same treatment? Put the riverboat outside TBA, have it sell beignets and mint juleps, maybe have a jazz band that plays on the upper deck for people like in the movie. Great way to save the ship while adding more theming to the TBA area.

What I wanna know is- what's gonna happen to the glowing eye owl animatronic in Harper's Mill? That guy is super charming, I hope he's moved to be outside the Haunted Mansion or something. I love me some simple 70s-era animatronics.
The Liberty Belle is dead. It'll be quietly moved and scrapped and that will be that. Disney hates its prime customers and thinks it can reach the """modern audience""" (which doesn't exist) with this monstrosity. Jeff, Josh, and Bob are all empty suits that only care about money and hate what the parks stand for. This company is dead. Please stop giving them your money. It will not get better and this will not be a good replacement. It will be a cheap and soulless empty husk of a ride that will never live up to RoA. I'm sure I will still peruse this site from time to time but Disney will never receive another one of my dollars. I know that's completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things but I'll spend my time and money at places where I'm valued and not actively hated.

RoA wasn't removed for lack of space.

Disney didn't want it any more.
Which is crazy as removing water features has never proven them successful, yet altering them to accommodate expansion always has. I still don't think the fun map they released is informative enough. I think their rational for squeezing this in is what bothers people the most with the bogus storyline. Josh is not a creative individual no matter how hard his script writers try to make him the "Walt". If they were turning this into a non-IP western expansion that was time period appropriate, I think people would've received this news a lot better, especially in keeping the storyline from Hudson Valley NY all the way out to Bryce Canyon. Now if the new water features they are creating invoke the vistas of say, Cascade Peak and Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland, I think people would be more amenable. And as painful as it is for me to say it, I'm not super bummed about TSI, I made it out there MAYBE every 2 years if I was lucky and that was just because I rarely am I MK in during the daytime. I am still holding out for some news about the riverboat resurfacing either near Tiana's or perhaps as part of the body of water still planned to be near BTMRR.

That doesn't mean they shouldn't focus on expansion over replacement, though. The balance needs to continue to slide into the expansion side of things over just removing X to put in Y. Eventually from a pure number perspective, this will result in more than what was there before, that's for sure, but it will be a while before that is realized.

While I think that Cars (and later Villains) will be a better use of what is prime MK real estate, the loss of the areas ambiance will be felt forever.

After 14 visits I finally rode the Liberty Belle on our last trip. There was more to the experience than I expected. I am glad to have done it once, but I had no reason to ride again. TSI also never appealed to me, even as a kid in the 90s. I don’t think I ever did it.

I am looking forward to Piston Peak and Villiansland. Sorry.
I think experiencing it in the peak eras of Disney parks history (80's, 90's, early 00's) impact this. I know experiencing it as a kid in the 90s was certainly a superior experience. The RoA and TSI were alive back then with the Mike Fink Keel Boats, the Davy Crockett Canoes, plus the LIberty Belle. I vividly remember the features along the rivers looking so good, heck even the Settlers Cabin in flames!

especially when they practiced this at DLR during the addition of Galaxy's Edge. The Trestle bridge and water falls of their new RoA is BETTER than the original! I remember when they released that rendering back in 2016. All the worry was subsided.

I recall the canoes etc. I think the more feral the kids (80s) the more compelling TSI would be.

This is the first time I hear that the Twain and Columbia were going to be docked for Discovery Bay. So glad it never happened! Fascinating to think I would have grown up with a very different Disneyland. At least they had the sense to keep the river and lower half of TSI.

Someone YT (can’t remember the channel, maybe it was RetroWDW, maybe it was WDWPro) said it best: Corporate Disney/The Bob Iger Company doesn’t think of their visitors to the parks as “guests” anymore, they think of them as “consumers” only.

“Sorry we killed an experience you shared with your parents and grandparents, making it impossible to share with your own children or grands. But here’s our new piston peak popcorn pail for $32.99. And don’t forget to subscribe for Cars Shorts on Disney plus.”

the synergy is truly exhausting and draining. management needs a factory reset.

There definitely was a lot more life to all of Frontierland back in the day - definitely find memories of visiting as a kid and the streetmosphere in the area and the various vessels in the water

Definitely overtime the whole area became more of a walkway to get to Splash/TBA and BTMRR. Some of that is management doing but also I think just guest references changing over time

The difference is that the DL fans would have burned the park to the ground fighting for some of it to remain. So they made it clear that it would. At WDW everything is the end of the world when it closes, so it means nothing when the complaints roll in.

If I removed the pool from my backyard would you say my family didn’t want the pool anymore? There is no Disney. Walt Disney is dead. “Disney” in this case is just a few guys working for a corporation who don’t know what they’re doing and a bunch of people doing their job and listening to their bosses.

RoA wasn't removed for lack of space.

Disney didn't want it any more.
It's relatively easy to see why Disney would see the RoA as a candidate for removal:

✅ Can be replaced with a more recognizable IP that pushes merch(Cars)
✅ While Disney shows the very sanitized version, parts of the source material is ... questionable
✅ Less people required to run/repair the ships and rafts
✅ As stated, until they announced it was closing, neither attraction was really pulling lines, nor had LL or G+

Do we think it's a stupid idea? Yes. Are we Disney? No. The last few big removals should have taught us everything is on borrowed time basically to Bob and co.
