WDW during a Recession / Economic Downturn

Well, because I had visited WDW almost exactly 4-ish years ago (late May 2021) and the parks and resorts were much more robust and busy than they had in our early Covid trips. Revenge travel was starting and households were still utilizing their CARES cash and increased child deductions on vacations.

As for this timing, the market started dropping on early March of this year. It was not caused by an international terrorist attack or a worldwide pandemic.
You shouldn't have to defend yourself here, the person you're replying to could have started this thread at any stage they wanted to before you had they felt strongly and wanted to.

I think it's an interesting thread and the number of replies shows that others do too. Those who don't like it can ignore it but instead they seem to be attacking the thread instead.

I also think that there's the opportunity for people to give their reasons for numbers declining if indeed they are, be that Disney's pricing, the new Universal park or whatever reason they genuinely believe is affecting travel numbers. It's a question that could have several contributing factors to the answer and is there to debate.

I wasn’t, necessarily, directing my post to you, as it is more of a general question for anyone to answer, but I appreciate your reply.
I was just trying to understand why it didn’t seem to be more of an issue when things were quite a bit worse, not all that long ago…?
We waited and did no “revenge travel”, we put our “CARES” money in the bank and our 3 kids are all in their 30’s, so no child deductions.
The “CARES” money went into our savings account, as we still had plenty of money in our travel account, from trips that had to be cancelled due to COVID (we’ve been on 4 family trips since December of ‘22 - a Disney cruise, a Carnival cruise and 2 WDW trips).
I know a lot of people were getting nervous, and some were panicking a bit, back when you started the thread. I’ve been laid off twice over the years (‘85 and ‘09) and plainly saw those economic downturns comin’ like a freight train.
I just didn’t see that happening this time.
Inflation is at 2.4%, gas is down more than $1 for us, and even interest rates have crept down a bit.
I moved none of my investment money around, and definitely didn’t cash anything out.
It appears the recession/economic downturn didn’t materialize…..this time. :cyclops:;)

Good grief.
I was asking a legitimate question on a discussion board.
In what way did I “attack” the OP…?!?!?!
I didn’t talk down to them, make any snarky comments, laugh at them, etc., etc., etc.
The OP seemed to have no problem responding to my post/question in a calm, respectful and clear manner, either.
I have no clue how you could consider my inquiry as an “attack”…?!?!?!

Apologies but today you quoted the person along with another who has claimed that "This entire thread exists as an attempt to continuously validate a few people’s misleading narrative using rumors, half stories and falsehoods under the guise that this is some sort of public service thread".

The OP replied to that person as they did to you but got no response from the person accusing them who has posted several times since they replied whilst ignoring their polite response. That's why I said 'They' in my reference to those attacking this thread. I quoted yourself as you were asking them why they didn't start the thread several years ago which felt like a criticism especially following so closely to the person claiming this thread exists for reasons that it doesn't.

I can see your point of view on my response and apologise if it came across as snarky and I should have worded it better.

I went back to make double sure, but I did not quote any other member in my original post, from 6:21a this morning.

To be clear, the first sentence of my response post to the OP stated that I wasn’t directing my question, necessarily, to them, but to anyone who might care to answer.
I posted nothing about why the OP hadn’t started the thread a few years back. My question was in regard to why anyone hadn’t started the thread until March 11th of this year, when things were quite a bit worse a few years ago, or so.
If I didn’t make that more clear, I apologize.

Apology accepted, and I appreciate it…no worries.
I don’t lose sleep over these boards…! ;)

A weaker dollar will increase US exports.
Normally it would, but in the current situation, it probably won't because many consumers in other countries -- like Canada -- are avoiding buying American goods; or other countries are retaliating against US tariffs by applying reciprocal tariffs which raise the price of US goods; or they are receiving cheap Asian products previously intended for sale in the US.

Here in the UK, my local Costco is currently full of cheap Chinese made goods that were destined for the US market but were instead diverted by the company to European outlets to avoid tariffs.

Meanwhile the trustees of my pension scheme wrote to us retirees last month to say that the value of our overall pension pot has fallen because of instability in global investments due to American-led trade wars. Let's just say nobody in that pension scheme will be holidaying in Florida anytime soon.

Everyone please keep buying those line skips so revenue stays up, they can increase prices, and never consider fixing any of the growing problems, please?

Ate at Tiffins last week to take advantage of AP promos... and surprisingly it was empty?

I know Tiffins struggles at Dinner time, but I would have assumed the 40% discount would do a good job at getting APs inside the door.

…ehhhh nobody goes there anymore…it’s too crowded

Couple of things at work…dak Empties out stll in the afternoon most days

Tiffins is pretty pricey for park fair…probably out of range of a lot of locals

The dak restaurants are always wide open now

Except yak and yeti…which I never seen to understand

Over the holiday weekend? I assume most AP holders would be blocked out then.
