EPCOT Spaceship Earth refurbishment coming soon?

Surprised they decided to close it right before D23 and of course that is the weekend I am there!

Same - we are coming down for that and doing Epcot on Aug 28th. My wife, especially, is not happy that it will close right before we get there and doesn't understand why they don't wait another week to close it

I think the only hope we have for the decent currently is maybe Disney will throw some budget towards a demo crew to take advantage of the downtime and give a very little leg up to the next refurb.

Realistically, probably nothing though.

It would honestly be better if they just allowed you to make some choices and ran a preset (better) animation without attempting to plaster in your face. It felt mildly novel decades ago and is nothing of the sort now.
I think a single video on the future in general would be better. Or maybe a random one of like 15 videos of world heritage sites or something

Maybe they’ll actually consider adding something to the decent this time instead of just a cartoon on a screen in front of you
Honestly I would wait for the big refurb for that. While the current descent has been an embarrassment for the last 17 years. I want WDI to have time to really think about how they can create a great ending again. A temporary fix now would be just that.

Well me too but that ship sailed moons and moons ago
Not really, The screens don't have to be there and there is enough space to create something better. It would require effort and ingenuity which I am not sure modern WDI is capable of but it is still possible.

Nice you still have a flicker of hope, you spent a lot of time in the place

Do you know something I don't? It really depends on who is leading the Imagineering Team. The new Test Track is a hopeful sign but then again that is mostly GM's doing. Since SSE is sponsorless there is a 50/50 chance the next version will be bad or good. At least based on the current evidence. We know the planned 2020 "Story Light" version would have been bad.
