I was on the monorail Saturday and went past the Test Track area and new sign. Just wanted to post my picture here because I think a remember some posters feeling like with the rocks, people will be tripping over them or walking on them and kicking them out of the bottom platform. I just wanted to say in regards to that, I did not realize how big this sign and rocks are from the photos someone put here last week.

They are MASSIVE! You can kind of tell from my picture with that person all the way to the left just how big the sign, and those rocks are. It looks like most of them are bigger than that persons foot, even!

I didn't have a problem with the sign before, and after seeing it from the monorail I like it even more. Also I don't think we will have an issue with kids kicking the big rocks all over the place because of how big they are and, I'm assuming, very heavy!

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on that subject lol

I refuse to believe that you're not trolling. The post you quoted was ONLY about theme parks and themed design. It was a post about what kinds of rides and attractions would be wise for Disney to focus on building. We are  literally on a theme park discussion forum. That is the only thing we're discussing.

Like, are you actually being serious right now? You're legitimately unable to use context to understand what the rest of us are talking about? Nobody is discussing the Walt Disney Company as a whole. The entire conversation has been about the choice of replacing non-IP attractions with IP attractions. It has only ever been about that. Casper hekpfully pointed out that doing so is short-sighted on Disney's part, because their most famous rides have been original content, and have in and of themselves become "IP," even capable of launching their own media franchises.

We are specifically and exclusively discussing Disney's work in THEME PARKS because, again, WE ARE ON A DISNEY THEME PARK WEBSITE. So when someone brings up “Disney” here, in a conversation that’s obviously about theme parks, it’s pretty safe to assume they’re talking about the parks specifically, and not the century-old media conglomerate as a whole.

This is what I commented on and bolded. I don't care at all about what Universal does. I don't care about 'themed design', I only commented on this sentence.

Disney's reputation - be it in 'themed design' or not - was NOT built on theme-park-first IPs. Thats what I commented on. You're the one trying to change around that simple statement by Casper and I into this completely different argument. You know people in a conversation can be discussing different things, correct? Thats why I later pointed out that nearly all of the early attractions at DL were IP based - because it refutes the argument that they built a reputation on theme park first IPs. Yes, HM and Pirates came later, but that wasn't until after both the Company's Reputation and the Company's Theme Park Reputation (which somehow are different things?) were already formed.

And no, saying 'Disney', just because we are on a parks site, doesn't necessarily ONLY mean the parks. We discuss plenty here that isn't parks related.

I mean, it still calls the area Future World (fine by me lol, just shouldn’t be the case). It even states that new experiences are coming to some of the WS pavilions that had their projects indefinitely postponed or outright cancelled (China, UK). It’s just Disney deliberately giving guests misinformation at this point.

I don't even think they know anymore what's what. They probably have no clue or care to update such things unfortunately.

So people over reacted to pics from a distance posted on the internet? - say it isn’t so.

I remember during Tron construction numerous people seeing the train tunnel and would comment on how it was too small for the train and how dumb could Disney be to not figure that out.

It could still look bad to some people and, to be fair, I did take my photos from afar as well.

But from my eyes on the monorail, it was huge haha. I was very surprised and not expecting it. My photo still doesn't do it justice at all.

I wasn't really following the Tron construction at all, but that is pretty funny people were saying that and kind of aligns with how the internet works these days 🤣

This is what you keep ignoring, and it's the only thing that matters. He was specifically referring to Disney (as a theme park design firm) building their (theme park design) reputation on original concepts, which is absolutely true. Rides like Pirates, Mansion, Spaceship Earth are 100% what has made a cultural impression. You cannot simply choose to ignore the rest of the post and assign your own meaning to an isolated portion of it to create an argument that never existed.

Either way, I'm done with this absolutely asinine argument. Yes, Disney existed before they started making theme parks and already had an established reputation for quality productions. That is correct as well, despite not being what anybody was saying otherwise. Does that make you feel better?

It's still incorrect. Their 'theme park design' reputation was built before Pirates and HM existed. Disneyland wouldn't have survived until 1967/1969 if the IP based attractions weren't popular and didn't already establish their 'theme park design' reputation.
