They are already expanding into the parking lot for this, so there is no reason they couldn't have built the whole thing there. They made a clear choice to get rid of Muppets and replace it with Monsters.

yup - could even storyline have it that keeping MV3D there could work - there are "monsters" in the Muppet world, could have a story that Sweetums (or a new character or whatever) is the Monsters Inc rep in Muppets world and that they have a door that opens into the Muppets Theater or something

But they felt it was better to remove MV3D and replace it vs work around it ... would be cheaper to keep it as is so they must have reasons for it even if many of us disagree

The leap to make that happen, while creative, is borderline illogical. It's against any common sense rules governing the use of single IP-based lands. Not impossible, but it would be highly, highly unlikely. A hard No, being that the first attraction guests see entering this Monster's Inc land would be a Muppet show.

Those are not SCRIPT-STYLE letters. You're examples are good, they should mimic any of those.

Every typeface has a history of what medium it is representing, what era it's from, what aesthetic ideas it represents. Some designers think because they have 500 fonts on their "design program" they can pick any of them for any reason, without understanding them.

So, you'll see a typewriter font used in various sizes and colors in the same design. That's not how typewriters worked.

Or they will use a script-style typeface stacked vertically like they did because they are not recognizing the origin and point of script is that it comes fluidly and connectedly from a pen or brush horizontally...for centuries. Stacked, it looks uneducated and is difficult to read (in part because the "caps" in particular of script can be idiosyncratic and require full-word context).

(If your project is subversive, and you are trying to be disruptive on purpose -- like a punk rock poster -- do whatever you want with any typeface you want. That's the point, to show you are "rebellious," but that's not what Monsters, Inc. is, and that wasn't intentional here.)

Searching historic theater blade signs will reveal thousands of good examples, such as what you found, that they can take inspiration from.

This may have been debunked and or discussed by insiders already, but what if they transfer Laugh Floor to the new MI theater and then put MV3D in the now empty Tomorrowland space? Not that I would care for the lack of thematic cohesion but Laugh Floor already is out of place so it’s a wash.

Yeah, the simple answer is Monster's Inc. is more valuable IP, while they essentially get a full MI land for cheap by reusing Muppets. It honestly is probably better than anything they would have built from scratch. The Animation Courtyard concept art did worry me slightly as I think it would have been very factory heavy.

Couldn’t they just expand the seating capacity to the building to the left? They are just facades after all.

Mama Melrose had restrooms blocking access in that direction so a lot of plumbing would have to be relocated. Increasing dining capacity also at some point means having to increase kitchen capacity, also involving a lot of plumbing and mechanical work.

There was someone a few months ago who tweeted that they were told to vacate the Animation office building because it was being replaced. Not necessarily imminent, but it sounded like Disney was gearing up to use that footprint at some point.

The Animation Building is used like a generic office building. Teams located there are not all there because they require proximity to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or the parks in general. That means they also have and do get moved around based on other factors.

Well, doing all of this in that parking lot and retaining Muppets would have made a pretty bad dead end because it would both be longer and further away from the entrance and have more "stuff" and thus total number of people crowding there. It's not ideal as is, but putting more there really would have necessitated having a second pathway in/out and I don't know how they would have done so (without removing something else like Star Tours).

Only if you designed it that way.

Without looking at Google Earth or anything, would it have been possible to extend more horizontally? Basically, have the walkway follow the backroad instead of going perpendicular. Then you could link up into Star Wars land, and now you have a loop.

I genuinely think that Disney might be planning two lands here because it’s a massive area plus maybe waiting on if universal is taking down their marvel land which is a popular rumor. The moment they do, one of disneys most profitable IP is ripe for the taking and would fight perfectly there

Let's be honest, Animation Courtyard was a LONGGGG shot compared to Muppets. It's an absolute lay up decision.

1. They would presumably have to build a new office building in order to replace this one in some way. (As far as I know they also rent this particular building out to other people sometimes so I'm sure they like the money generated by having an office IN a theme park.

2. They would have to tear down everything, figure out what to do with Little Mermaid. Then remake/completlely fabricate new buildings/facades.

3. They would have to install new kitchens and food services/plumbing in many of these new buildings.

4. Makes another giant awkward dead end in a park with too many already.

5. tbh the area is genuinely way too big for monsters as it is. Having a massive town square the size of Animation Courtyard would look kinda weird. Plus it takes up an expansion plot that could have even more appeal.

The sad truth is, people weren't visting the Muppets enough, while it is super important culturally, it is not very popular. I adore the Muppets but with all of that, it's not hard to see why Muppets Courtyard was the thing to go. My hope is they do turn either M.I.L.F or Sunset Showcase into a new Muppetvision 3D but again this would end up FAR cheaper and imo be a much better end for the Muppets anyway than building Monsters in AC

They need to replace Launch Bay sooner or later. Even if it’s just a single attraction. That entire area has been wasted space for 10 years now. Utterly ridiculous.

Oh I agree they do, but I do think they are waiting for the right opportunity with such prime real estate, replacing it too hasty is a bad idea because they could inadvertently block off some prime real estate right behind it which I believe to fit 2 full-scaled lands if they play their cards right.

I'm at least happy Monsters Inc is getting the area, if it had to be ANYTHING replacing Muppets, it should be Pixar's crown jewel (to me).

Fully agree. Monsters, Inc is easily a top shelf, A+, tried and true property that deserves this treatment.
