DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I for one love Monsters, Inc., it’s my favorite Pixar film. What I don’t like, is the removal of Muppet*Vision 3D for it when areas like the launch bay exist. Now the new Monsters area will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I believe (as with all things Disney these days), it came down to money. Muppets Courtyard already had the infrastructure in place for two restaurants, etc. and it was likely cheaper for them to repurpose those kitchens, facilities into Harryhausen’s, etc. than it would be to build them from the ground up.

Like, I understand the logic behind that decision-making. Still, it doesn’t make it any less disappointing to me.
You did hit on one thing. They need to announce what's replacing Star Wars Launch Bay. But they just reopened Little Mermaid and reset Disney Jr. for summer so those aren't going away any time soon.

I also think it enables them for a quicker turnaround vs doing something in Animation Courtyard which would require moving people currently in office space there, removing that office building and other infrastructure - just a bigger and more time consuming job

This lets them get something new that will draw people to DHS in a shorter time period and fit it in to come after Tropical Americas and before Piston Peak ... then have the bigger addition be in the 2nd 5-year of the updates
Unfortunately, I think Muppets Courtyard was always on the chopping block and it fits the aesthetic of Monstropolis pretty much dead on (besides the obvious Monster's Inc. factory building). Was probably all too easy for modern Disney to be able to justify a relatively small investment to complement what will be one of the most popular attractions in WDW. Obviously the attraction/show building will still be plenty expensive on it's own.

MV3D was a treasure. I hope it finds a new home.

The rest of the area (dining, shopping) was severely under utilized. Some of it was failures from management decisions over the years.

Animation Courtyard remains tricky due to the offices.

They are expanding the perimeter of the park with this move. The door coaster looks fantastic.

The door coaster is one of the easiest, slam dunk ideas ever for a theme park attraction. Pixar essentially gift-wrapped the ride to WDI. Still wild it took over 20 years to get approved.

Disney, I beg of you, please do not EVER stack script-style letters. It's just not to be done. Ever.

I remember hearing that the removal of those offices for this land was an option on the table and they ended up going with a different one. Unsure how much truth there is to that, just relaying what I had heard. I understand it would have been much trickier (-and expensive) to convert the Animation Courtyard space into Monstropolis but if it would have saved Muppet*Vision 3D, I would have preferred it.

I am still holding onto some form of hope that the Sunset Showcase eventually becomes a new home for it. I know that hope is likely in vain, but the idea of being able to convert that corner of the park into a full-blown (proper) “Muppet Studios” land with two attractions once Villains-land has opened and the show currently here has run its course feels like too good of an opportunity to pass up.

The conspiracy theory in my brain is that they want to announce this to assuage the frustrations of folks like myself but they can’t because it would ultimately undermine the current Villains show, which they are pushing hard right now.

I know, I know, I will end up disappointed. Still, I can dream.

They can (and IMHO should) keep both of those theaters up and running and do any expansion on the Launch Bay footprint and backwards into the backstage space.

Personally, I kind of wished they took out Star Tours (or moved to GE) instead of MV3D and build the land from the West facing side into the expansion door coaster where it's still expanding out to the park lot.

Replace Star Tours with the Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! attraction (they are closing at DCA).

If they put Monsters Inc. in Animation Courtyard and demo'd a bunch of buildings - it would have been great. But it still left work to be done at Grand Avenue.

There was someone a few months ago who tweeted that they were told to vacate the Animation office building because it was being replaced. Not necessarily imminent, but it sounded like Disney was gearing up to use that footprint at some point.
