There hasn't been an update on that since 2023 prior to the Hollywood strikes. If it hasn't been mentioned recently I doubt its still under development at this point.

“Creative Tensions” - Russos apparently want to do more of a Maleficent type with Hades, Disney wants more faithful adaptation.

Well still sounds like its going no where. So wake me up when they start filming, because until then its in development hell and not moving forward.

I’m in favor of leaving Hercules and the other animated classics alone and focusing on making their new/original/new story not yet adapted animated (and live action on that note) films stellar again. And as a cushion re-releasing the classics all in theaters, new 4K remastered prints if they exist, w good/big marketing & merchandising campaigns behind them. I believe there are more people than you think that would love to see these on the big screen again, myself included.
Btw, how about some new (or even reprints if they already exist) of seperate “art of” books and such during these re-releases of classics? That’d be amazing! I know I’d buy em

It I strictly have to pick between those two proposals though, I’d def be more on board with a Hades movie then a live action remake of the animated Hercules .. ‘however’, again, try to keep the character & story integrity in place that doesn’t retcon any of the original film and work w some of the original film crew, perhaps to ensure that?
I’d personally prefer they do stuff like that in traditional animation w the same directors & animators (if they want to return) as the OG behind it, plus new animators that genuinely want to learn from/work alongside the original guys. ‘But’ hey, I liked the Christopher Robin sequel film done in live action.. so, take that for what it’s worth. If it keeps the same cast and does what it can to retain the integrity of the characters in the original films (possibly even the original source material it was based on aswell), I’m okay with that.
No point in remaking the very same film though or doing a sequel to that a remake, just keep it as-is. (Basically, if it were ever on the table. No I’d absolutley not be in support of them remaking The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in live-action. That’s just pointless. At that point just re-release the original ‘77 compilation film to theaters w a nice 4K remastered print, have a good marketing & merch campaign, and an art-of/making-of book out as I mentioned).
