News Coco Boat Ride Coming to Disney California Adventure

I really don't enjoy Incredicoaster (I think it's a long, forceless bore; the worst coaster Disney has in the states for me), but even I would defend it staying to the death. It serves an important purpose in DCA and while I hate riding it, I do greatly enjoy what it contributes to the scenery of the park. For all the faults of the pier, it's the iconic view of DCA and I don't think that bettering the park requires changing that.

Finally someone says it! I admire your bravery.

If Coco does take over the Paradise Gardend restaurant area, I really do hope they get rid of Goofy’s Sky Skool. It’s just such a huge eyesore. At that point, they should get rid of Golden Zephyr (Only open half the time) and Jumpin Jellyfish and just fill in that land with more walkway to open the area up a little. I don’t think DCA will suffer if they get rid of those rides.

So Pixar Pier is getting slightly larger with Coco having its entrance at the parade gate and presumably taking up some of the Boardwalk Pizza n Pasta/ Paradise Gardens. Do we think the remaining parts of Paradise Gardens Park gets Pixarfied? Silly Symphony retheme to UP swings from Paris? And then complete the IPification of DCA with Zephyr being rethemed to Alebrijes from Coco and Jumpin Jellyfish to Nemo? That just leaves Goofys Sky School. Maybe Monsters since the dark ride is going away? Would be cool if they could enclose it and add a dark ride scene or two.

EDIT: forgot about Mermaid but thats far enough out and just on the edge of the land where it can be absorbed by Performance Corridor. Or they can give the area of the park including the Golden Vine Winery area a new name that would make sense for both it and Mermaid.

Golden zephyr is the odd man out for sure as you can’t really retheme it to anything, unless they add in a zephyr to a new Pixar film just to incorporate it lol.

Now maybe if somebody like Staggs was there it would be different but this is how I see playing out now.

Tom Staggs?! That’s a random name drop. I mean - ya he might make Nemo seasonal and put an up charge meet and greet somewhere unlocked with the power of your magic band+++.

That guy was Strategic Planning born and raised.

Wasn’t Staggs in charge when Grizzly Peak Airfield and Fantasy Faire were built?

That’s a bit like giving the wrong person credit for the homework. Those were incredibly cheap solutions that were well executed though.

I think you meant you want Ray Spencer or Tony Baxter to do it. Except you probably don’t want Tony Baxter. 😂

lol why not. I love Baxter. I don’t think you can give any one person all the credir credit but I think Staggs reign was much more friendly to core/ traditional DL fans than those who have come after. Of course there could be a multitude of reasons it turned out that way. Also that was around the time I first started really diving into the deep end of the fandom so it’s my lasting perception of him. He seemed very likeable too.

I was mostly referencing his last crack at Tomorrowland. Not exactly seen highly.

I think circumstances more than anything. He didn’t have outright disdain for the product, but I doubt he’d return with a non IP mandate, that has evolved in his absence. I also doubt he’d shirk the strategic planning, which is about minimizing capital spend as much as possible and wringing things out of what already exists.

I think he’s a nice man, but notoriously was referred to as the guy with anemic personality.

We have a tendency to project things onto people that in some ways they really weren’t responsible for. Even Pandora wasn’t really him, that was a rare Bob parks mandate. Then between Joe, John and Jim he was barely a cog in the wheel.
