What could they have done with this space to make it more Disney ??

If this was any other park I would agree with you but here in this area of Epcot I feel like it fits in just fine.
The way I look at it is, the place is a lounge. It serves alcohol. Money will be made. Views will be enjoyed.

It can do all that and also be special due to it being inside Epcot (since people are paying admission), and not at a Hilton or airport. The triangle motifs, etc., of Spaceship Earth are not enough, in my opinion. That's first-semester interior design program "inspired by."

It could have had more of this below...artwork, models, pull-quotes on signage/menus...reverence for what Epcot was all about. And it still could have been chic, elegant, sophisticated, tasteful, cool...

Idk at my crabby old age of 28 I appreciate the small backs on those barstools
I'm not talking about the backs. I'm talking about the act of actually sitting on them. You have to pull it out, away from the bar, hop up into it (for us shorter people) and then, oops! You're two feet away from the bar because you had to pull the damn chair out to actually sit in it.

Bougie breweries are all going to this type of chair and it's incredibly annoying.

You sound quite experienced 😇

I'm just not sure what headline they were looking for with this project, this?

Here are some SPECIFIC thing they could do:

Referential Cocktail Names
One of the obvious features of themed bars is to name the cocktails after meaningful things. Why? Because it gets patrons thinking and talking and wondering. So instead of the generic, non-Epcot-specific cocktail names (see below), why not have a cocktail named The Ray Bradbury (who was Disney's friend when he conceived Epcot and a futurism mentor). Bradbury enjoyed cocktails and a famous quote of his is: "One, get your work done. If that doesn't work, shut up and drink your gin," so...how about The Ray Bradbury being a gin drink? Epcot is filled with references for cocktails, or nosh. They literally could have spent a hour brainstorming ideas on a white board.

Bathroom Features and Music
I haven't heard any reports about what's going on in the bathrooms, but it better be something worth talking about when you get back to the table (a no-brainer for bar design). How about have the original Epcot pavilion music from Horizons and Universe of Energy etc. Wouldn't that put a smile on your face and give you something to report when you get back to the table?

More Specific Art/Pattern References: Deeper Cuts
The triangular surface pattern of Spaceship Earth is cool. And well-known. But it's not a huge design victory to just repeat it indoors. How about they could do some research and dig through the archives and find some Epcot gems. A design inspired by this master plan could be done as a subtle tonal/sandblasted effect on those round cocktail tables, for example.

These chairs are going to get lots of wear and tear on themselves and the floor with guests turning them 180 degrees each night for the fireworks. Smart thinking there, WDW.

Steakhouse 71 does a better job at this than Geo 82.
