So, is it just sort of a rule now that if you're gonna be Disney's CEO, Disneyland will have a great first decade followed by a lousy second decade?

Iger has never wanted to retire I can bet we get a 3rd decade with him at this rate.
I'd push back on that "never wanted to retire" claim, as all evidence pointed to him wanting to do something else (like politics) rather than continue on as CEO. So I'd take that bet and say he retires at the end of his current contract at the end of 2026. The man is 74, he isn't going to go forever, no CEO does no matter the age. Even Warren Buffet stepped down as CEO, and everyone expected him to go on until he dropped dead.

I didn't know the Armageddon special effects show from Disney Studios Paris was intended for California Adventure as well, where Who Wants to be a Millionaire ended up.

It certainly would not have been out of place with the rest of early 2000s DCA.
Totally makes sense, down to the preshow clearly being filmed in English and then (I believe, IIRC) dubbed in French after the fact.

That was such an odd show, though in retrospect I'm glad I got to experience it. Never did Millionaire and I've never gotten the sense that I missed much of anything.

According to all the 2 tell all researched articles about the Chapek era, Iger never really wanted to leave and behind the scenes was still in talks with all of his department heads to Chapek's frustration.

Remember not only was his 2020 retirement many years delayed, but when he came back in 2022 it was for a 2 year contract and then he extended it 2 more years. The board is comprised of his friends and always has been.

I'd be surprised if he does actually retire this time around, if he does we may see a repeat of Chapek where he is pulling strings behind the scenes. Despite his age and wealth it seems Iger can't leave Disney for whatever reason and keeps finding ways to stay.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of the guy, but I never bought into the “palace intrigue” in those hit pieces that came out. They read like some tabloid article you’d have found at a checkout aisle in the 80s/90s.

We know from several other articles not tied to those hit pieces that he was trying to be an ambassador of China, had he gotten that he wouldn’t have come back. So yeah tell me again that he never “retired” and wanted to stay. He wanted a career in politics post-Disney, it just never came to pass.

Look you can believe whatever you want, but the board has turned over in the last 2 years and it’s no longer the same people that you claim were his “friends”. They also have a new Chairman who is specifically experienced in CEO succession. So all this looks specifically like a plan to have Iger hand over the reigns to a new CEO and step down at the end of his contract in Dec 2026. I guess we’ll see who’s right when that time comes, as it’s fast approaching.

WDW is replacing Rivers of America with Piston Peak. I can think of an alternate spelling.

So, the company that replaced grass with astroturf, and took away plastic straws is now celebrating the internal combustion engine (thematically) and off-road racing? Have I got that right?

Y’know, I’d actually sort of enjoy this concept if it was going ANYWHERE ELSE in WDW. But this change just kills anything I liked about MK for me. Done.

Fortunately for me, I don’t ever plan to visit WDW. Majority of attractions is featured here.

I wish Disney would reintroduce Skyway for MK. Would have been perfect traversing between Piston Peak and Storybook Circus assuming such an idea possible and there wasn't a giant castle structure in the way. Would fit the themes of Piston Peak.

In doing some measurements I found the area to be quite small. It measures about 3/4 of the RSR ride for the whole land.

Maybe it goes farther back than the artwork.

Those who say they will never visit a park because of changes always come back.
Had to like this comment, because I 99% agree with it. But in my case, this change genuinely ticks me off—for many reasons. Luckily, I don’t particularly care for MK (having grown up with the amazing original), so for me this is like saying I don’t intend to ever eat Frankenberry Cereal or Pez again. 😃

But this does confirm my choice to let my WDW AP expire, not spend any more money on WDW property after that expiration, and have a Universal Orlando year. The only thing that could bring me back would be if there’s still enough Wild West presence in Frontierland, and the cars ride is 100 times better than TBA.

I’m really tired of Bobsy World.

I remember Californian Elitist called Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland a "cancerous growth" and said multiple times how she would never enter that part of Disneyland. She said it destroyed ROA. Three months after it opened, she went with George Lucas on a Bench to Galaxy's Edge and wrote a review about how detailed the land was and how she enjoyed the Falcon ride.

I've never seen a case where someone stuck to their boycott. I didn't go to the place for two years and I was all for the expansion.

I felt the same at the time too. But having to return back to DL in March in many years. My opinion has changed. The land is great in details but I do feel it short handed with attractions. Two is not enough. Maybe a solid D ticket qualify will do.

However my lack of desire to visit WDW is Florida government. I don’t see the reason to fly across the state where most attraction found at WDW is located here in California. I also don’t see any reasons for me to support Florida economy.
