Elio (Pixar - June 2025)

Usually, I find it dubious when sites claim that "sources say..." without naming those "sources.' Oh, really, you're just some Disney park fan site/blogger, and you have multiple sources in Pixar? Ok...

And then whoever initially makes that claim gets it repeated over and over again in the blogosphere echo chamber, with everyone else's "sources" being that first person who said what their "sources say."

However, it's clear Elio's production was prolonged and the movie was significantly reworked with a new team. This makes the $300M budget plausible.

Pixar movies have regularly been hitting the $200M mark. (Partly because Pixar includes the expense of running their whole studio into the budgetary figure, and not just the expense of the team working on the one movie.)

With Elio being one and a half movie's worth of work, $300M is not crazy. Disney will take a loss. But they were going to take a loss anyway with having to decide to scrap the movie and eat the loss, or, try to fix it... and eat a loss.

Sorry but I don’t believe this at all.

The Good Dinosaur is a film that cost $175-$200M and that was delayed 3 months longer than Elio from May 2014 to November 2015 after they showed footage from that movie in 2013 at Disney’s D23 Expo.

Elio probably cost $200M like that one film too.

I guess Elio is going to be a flop! Looks like it’s sequels and remakes forever! The end of the originals!😢
I think its time to take a break and breathe my friend. This panicking that you're doing is not good.

Elio will do whatever its going to do. But as mentioned elsewhere Disney already has other original movies that will be released in the next 9 months. So its not sequels and remakes forever.

Exactly.

Do they forget Hoppers comes out March 2026 and that’s another original from Pixar?

Obviously they do.

Yeah its budget probably would’ve been closer to $200M if it released last year as originally intended. A year of delay and reworking certainly could put it closer to $300M without breaking a sweat

WHATEVER.

Damn fools falling for bait every time that one would consider true and it turns out to be manufactured BS.
I know just like similar films you're trying to defend and champion this one too, but you're going a bit overboard here. I think you need to calm down as well before the mods end up banning you for violating site rules, such as for name calling.

So the same advice I gave Wade, just breathe, it'll be ok.

I really doubt it cost $300M.

Only people who are not understanding about how movies are made would believe this BS.

Realistically speaking, it probably cost $150M or $175M, like Soul, Turning Red, or Luca, but the film now probably cost $200M like Good Dinosaur did.

I’ll calm down when this site vets reporting from what are real sources/reliable trades and separates them from fake sources.

That’s great that you doubt it. It could cost what you suggest. I don’t doubt that as a possibility

It could also cost more than $200M because of a year+ delay of changing things following internal screenings post teaser release in June 2023.

The Good Dinosaur had a similar delay like Elio, even after showing footage at D23 in 2013, and that film still cost $175M-$200M.

This will likely be the same thing.

Its a fan forum, not a movie news site. There is no vetting of "sources", its up to each poster to determine how much they want to believe something.

And as I always say take everything that doesn't come directly from the studios with a huge truck load of salt.

The difference is Pixar doesn’t outsource like DreamWorks is now doing.

I highly doubt it cost that high
Pixar adds in additional costs to their films that other studios don't such as administrative costs for running the studio.

So yeah it could be that high, or even higher. Disney and Pixar are notorious for having high budgets, so I don't know why you think its hard to believe that they can have over a $200M film.
