Trip Report Cosmos Rewind: A Quick F&G Festival Trip Redo

Hello, friends! After hiding in shame for a year after failing to complete my first trip report, I’m back to try again, this time with a nice baby sized trip to ease my way (in hindsight, trying to document a 10-day land/sea/Christmas extravaganza was perhaps a bit ambitious on my part lol).

The details:
Who: My mom and me
Where: All Star Music
When: March 20-23, 2025
Why: My mom and I did a mother/daughter trip for Flower & Garden in 2018 and wanted an encore! We’re both big flower people so springtime is our jam.

Here's a picture of us from our 2018 trip:

Time to pack some snacks and make some tracks!

We attracted a bit of a crowd with all of our castle picture taking. Soon there was a good 5-10 of us taking pictures— castle only, to be clear. No selfie poses in sight! It was a nice shared human moment to all be strangers marveling at the same cool thing, and to be present in the moment instead of rushing from one place to another as it often feels we must at WDW.

Same picture from last post… right side up this time ;)

Now with artsy water ripple:

Annnnnd one more, in all its glory:

Remember what I just said about not rushing all over the place?

We had a lightning lane to catch so it was zoom zoom time. But first, the circus!

IMG_6851.jpeg

Big top treats might be my favorite MK store, though I hear they plopped some (read: 3) picnic tables in the back recently? 🤨 I get the need for air conditioned sitting spots but they look like they’re right in the middle of traffic. And adding seating for 10 isn’t solving enough problem to offset the additional traffic problem it creates. At least they tried, I guess?

Anywho. I think we might have grabbed a sweet treat for later at the hotel, and then it was off to tomorrow(land)!

We made it to Tron with 5 min to spare — whew! I bought lightning lanes because my mom still hadn’t ridden and I have a disability that keeps me from being able to stand in hour+ lines without sitting. Wheelchair isn’t an option for me either cause my mobility is a bit of a “move it or lose it” situation. Day to day I’m generally okay, but I have a neato walker I bring to Disney and any place where I know there will be crazy amounts of walking. I even decorated it for MNSSHP last year and went as Roz.

IMG_8998.jpeg

All this to say, It was money well spent.

IMG_7411.jpeg

BLUE TEAM REMAINS UNDEFEATED!!!

My mom loved the ride, though it’s hard NOT to get into the Tron spirit with that soundtrack. It really does the heavy lifting for that franchise.

Daft Punk GIF

We spent a couple minutes watching the cycles cycle by. I wish the ramp to the ride wasn’t a billion miles long, but gosh does that whole complex look cool at night.

IMG_6857.jpeg

We headed back through the circus with a plan to get some ice cream at Friar’s Nook (say it with me — BRATS AND TOTS! BRATS AND TOTS!) but we were temporarily sidetracked by the sweeping score of Happily Ever After and accompanying fireworks.

Everyone say, “ooooooh!”

IMG_6858.jpeg

Everyone say, “ahhhhhhh.”

IMG_6867.jpeg

I didn’t realize they piped music into Storybook Circus too! It was a nice surprise. I avoid the hub fireworks at this point — it’s too many people and too many cellphones and tall people and kids on shoulders etc etc. No matter how early you get there to get a spot, inevitably someone will shove right in front of you in the last five minutes and take a video on their phone of the whole thing, blocking your view. It sucks to miss out on the projections, but overall I’d much rather watch from behind the castle or in Tomorrowland. It feels a little more magical when you aren’t trapped in a sea of people.

We shared a Rapunzel Sundae and took a few minutes to rest. The internet says we were eating lemon & berry swirl dole whip with shortbread pieces, berry compote, whipped cream and sugar flowers. I don’t have a picture cause it looked like soup after all of 2 seconds, but I finger painted a picture in my phone notes so you can have an idea:

IMG_7966.jpeg

After ice cream, we had one hour left until park closing and there was one thing that I still really wanted to do: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. I have to tell you all, this ride was stressing me outtttt. I missed my chance to ride it last year. And after all of the drama and people going on about the broken animatronics and how it’s an abomination to Walt’s name etc etc I was getting more and more antsy. Unfortunately the constant down time makes it really hard to ride. And the virtual queue was gone so it was stand by or nothing. I have had STRESS DREAMS about riding this ride. DREAMS. MULTIPLE. I needed to ride so I could move on with my life 😭

The app said Tiana’s was open for business so we hurried over.

IMG_6871.jpeg

Despite what this picture looks like, we were not in the queue. No one was, in part because it was 60 degrees out at this point, and in part because it had just shut down. Again.

Here was the dilemma: we could wait and see if it reopened, but with so little time left in operating hours it was just as likely that they’d call it a night and not bother to open back up. My poor mom was ready to call it a night, but she graciously said she’d defer to me. I decided we’d give it 15 minutes. In the meantime, we wandered into Critter Co-Op for some warmth and gumbo:

IMG_6872.jpeg

Right at the 15 minute mark, we heard a cheer— the ride was back open! We hurried into line before Tiana could change her mind. Luckily, she was out of the office.

IMG_6874.jpeg

Within no time at all (no really, the place was empty), we were going down the bayou!

A trippy photo to commemorate the occasion:

IMG_6875.jpeg

LOUISSSSS!!! I KNOW HIMMMMM!!!

IMG_6879.jpeg

It’s time to partyyyyyyyy!

IMG_6884.jpeg

It was so cute and the songs were super catchy! And bonus, all of the animatronics were running! I personally was never a big Splash Mountain fan and almost never rode it. Tiana’s is not perfect by any means, but I would definitely ride again. I just wish the finale was slower— you cruise by the party so fast it’s hard to take in the details. Using my super speed, I managed to snap this picture of Tiana in her party dress as we zoomed by:

IMG_6886.jpeg

Our ride photo wasn’t the greatest, but we aced the “duck and cover” pose 😄

IMG_7410.jpeg

Admittedly, a good portion of why I never rode Splash that often is because I hateeeeeee flume rides/being wet in a theme park (water parks don’t count— you’re supposed to be wet there). This time, however, I came prepared with ponchos. They didn’t end up being that necessary this particular evening, but they did help trap in the heat, which we were both thankful for at that point!

With the sweet relief that Tiana and her bayou adventure would haunt my dreams no more, we headed for the exit. We took our time admiring the lights as we walked and stopped in Casey’s for a drink to go, and then it was on the bus back to Music. We didn’t need to be up so early the next day, so we set our alarms a little later and settled in for the night. 💤

🌻 Saturday, March 22nd 🌻

We woke up to a much warmer Florida on Saturday— no jacket necessary today. Despite the late night, we were up fairly early on our own, no alarm needed. We got ready at a leisurely pace and then headed out to catch an Uber to Riviera. We had breakfast plans 😎

IMG_6893.jpeg

Prior to the trip, I was really lucky in finding a reservation for two at Topolino’s Terrace. I had eaten here once before, and knowing my mom is a big breakfast person and a lover of the arts, it seemed like the perfect place!

Except. It wasn’t so perfect. 😅

Our server was very friendly, but she was SLOW. As in, “all the tables around us were seated after us and had drinks and pastries before we were even greeted” slow. I try to be patient because I know we’re not a server’s sole table and things happen, but it was over 10 minutes before she came to the table. And another ten minutes before we got pastries… and another 5 before we got coffee… and another 5 before we got coffee cups. It was not great.

The food was good, and the characters were fantastic as always, but it was hard to put aside the bad service. And for the price, it just wasn’t worth it. It’ll be awhile before I take a chance on it again.

But here are some pictures!

Donald longing for freedom (you good, buddy?)

IMG_0416.jpeg

Tasty bucket of bread!

IMG_6913.jpeg

Finally, food!! (I believe I got the quiche)

IMG_6916.jpeg

Daisy has entered the chat.

IMG_6899.jpeg

I somehow don’t have any photos of Mickey or Minnie— my mom must have taken them on her phone. The things you forget when you’re thirsty and waiting on a drink for 20 minutes 😂

Breakfast accomplished, we stepped onto the terrace for a few minutes to take in the view before heading downstairs. We walked to the Skyliner to fly over to Epcot for our big Flower & Garden fest day!

I will never get tired of looking at these mosaics:

The Skyliner trip was uneventful, and soon we were heading into Epcot!! It was time to see some flowers!!!!

We began to make our way around half the world, starting with France.

IMG_6924.jpeg

We also waved to Kermit and Miss Piggy. I love the “fringe” details on her gloves. Miss Piggy is always a fashion icon, even when made of plants 😂

IMG_6927.jpeg

Next up… Morocco! I had never been in Tangierine Cafe in the morning before; the light was coming through at the perfect angle for a picture.

IMG_6932.jpeg

Continuing our path, we made it to Japan. I think my favorite topiary of the day was this dragon of succulents:

IMG_6934.jpeg

Japan also had this very cool shishi-odoshi/“deer scare” display. Anyone who’s watched an anime show is likely familiar with the sound they make. For anyone else, imagine the most therapeutic and satisfying “DONK” sound you can lol

IMG_6933.jpeg

Next up we visited Tiana in the American Pavilion. I wish they’d use slightly different colored flowers/leaves for the skirt— i feel like the underskirt and overskirt kinda blend together. I don’t remember it being quite that homogenous in pictures from previous years. She still looks stunning though!

IMG_6941.jpeg

Italy was next in the lineup. Lady and Tramp were looking lovely this morning.

IMG_6952.jpeg

There were SO MANY PLANT POTS around these two. Even around back, flowers abound. They were really pretty— I am constantly in awe of the Disney horticulture wizards that manage to keep the flowers from getting crispy in the FL sun.

We continued our tour slowly around the globe. I was dumb and scheduled our Guardians LL too early, thinking we’d do a leisurely skim to see the topiaries and move on. I could swear none of the shops are open before 11, but it turns out all of the shops were open and my mom wanted to visit many lol I wasn’t too worried because I know Guardians tends to be pretty lax with return times, but I still wanted to get us there relatively on time (being late stresses me out sooo much).

The dwarves approved.

IMG_6964.jpeg

IMG_6966.jpeg

Flowers on a bigger lake!

IMG_6969.jpeg

We finally made it to Guardians and just in time too— the weather was getting hot 🥵

IMG_6971.jpeg

Tal Marik warned us not to make him angry.

IMG_6970.jpeg

What song did we get??

Disco Inferno Dancing GIF

If you said Disco Inferno, have a cookie! 🍪

I think I’ve ridden guardians 6 times now? And 4/6 have been Disco Inferno. I like it and it fits the ride so I’m fine with this — there are definitely worse songs to be stuck with. It’s just gotten to the point where I think if another song played I’d be really weirded out lol

After Guardians my mom got in line for a picture with the Groot topiary. I love all the tropical plants around him.

IMG_6984.jpeg

I wandered over to the Jofferey’s kiosk for coffee, but while I was waiting I caught sight of this giant planter behind the kiosk. I felt bad cause the flowers were super pretty and NO ONE was back there. I think that area was more well traveled while they were building Guardians/Connections and had every one rerouted back, around, and sideways. But now it’s just a quiet spot to take in the morning. Highly recommend.

Next we stopped in the Cool Club because we are cool people and also were in need of some cool AC. What’s your favorite Cool Club drink? I love the Cucumber Sprite. It is a tragedy the Sprite people haven’t brought it to us yet in the US.

Give It To Me Want GIF

Also, I know it’s cool to hate on that imagineer guy who was posting stories about the flooring during the Epcot overhaul, but I thought it was really cool info and I think of him every time I go into Cool Club and see the Coke bottle shards in the floor. I hope they bring him back from social media banishment someday.

IMG_6987.jpeg

This was also the trip where I realized the wall between Cool Club and Creations doesn’t go to the ceiling so they’re technically one big space despite clearly being meant as separate entities. You don’t really see it from Creations side, but look up next time you’re in Cool Club and you’ll see the lighting and wood ceiling over the wall.

With our sugar stores replenished, we set off for World Nature. I took an artsy SSE pic with some petunias.

IMG_6992.jpeg

We waved to Figment. (Could someone please move him back to Imagination pavilion? He looks a little lost and scared here. BLINK TWICE IF YOU NEED HELP FIGMENT!!)

IMG_6993.jpeg

Next we said hi to Asha and Star outside of The Land with the pansies and delphinium.

IMG_6994.jpeg

One of my favorite things at WDW to see is the Seasons balloons and banners. I think maybe because it’s so cheery? I wish they’d update the ground booths and carpeting to brighten it up and match closer to their corresponding season balloon above. Then again, I’d also rather they not touch it all versus touch it and turn it “vague vogue” or “blah beige”. PSA: Color is good! Color is your friend!

IMG_6999.jpeg

It was time for a boat tour! Living with the Land is my 2nd favorite attraction at Epcot so I was excited to see what they did for Flower & Garden Festival.

There were a lot of orchids. Disney loves their orchids.

F0FB8ACD-8765-4199-A319-42DA1E159633.jpeg

I enjoyed all of the different themed areas. The orchids were in the Moana section. My favorite was the Rapunzel section with the hidden Pascals and marigolds (also some sneaky daisies and snap dragons if you’re looking close).

IMG_7027.jpeg

IMG_7023.jpeg

They even had a little area for Eugene and Maximus complete with a tower of violas/mini-pansies.

IMG_7030.jpeg

The Beauty and the Beast and Princess and the Frog sections were much more compact but still really well done. The BatB display even had nasturtium, which are one of my favorite plants (that unfortunately I can’t grow to save my life 😭 they are picky about their sun).

IMG_7016.jpeg

The nasturtium are the guys busting out of the shelves with the disc-shaped leaves. Also pictured are more violas (little purple and yellow flowers on the shelves), and cone flowers (in the pot in the middle). And of course a rose in the glass cloche (but you didn’t need my help on that one 🤣).

After our garden cruise we took to the skies. When in Rome slightly askew Paris, amiright? 😉

IMG_7034.jpeg

Afterwards we took a quick bathroom break before heading back out into the very bright sun. We were getting hungry and our plan was to eventually hit up the food booths more towards the World Celebration end of things where they are more clumped together.

But first, a visit to the butterfly garden! Look at this cute lil guy trying to spell:

IMG_7051.jpeg

Does anyone remember the show Eureeka’s Castle? He reminds me of the little worms that hang out with the dragon.

There weren’t many butterflies out and about, so we left the tent pretty quickly. We were in luck, though, because our timing was perfect to spot something else in the trees just outside the butterfly house…. Do you see it too?

IMG_7038.jpeg

ENHANCE!

IMG_7048.jpeg

My mom and I, in addition to loving plants and food, also really love birds. We’re not super familiar with the Florida flock, but the Merlin Bird App believes it is a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker! It was having a good ol time hanging out; we watched it for over 10 minutes poking around with not a care in the world for the hundreds of people walking past not 10 ft away. It was really cool to see!

After our impromptu birding session we doubled back to Journey of Water because we’re incapable of traveling to things in a logical order 😅 My biggest pet peeve with Epcot is that everything always feels so far away, even when it’s pretty close. It’s always worth the walk though!

IMG_7058.jpeg

I am a huge fan of JoW. I used to work to work in the children’s section at the library and I love to see good examples of learning through play. Or even just play! Playing is so important for kids, and honestly I think us adults could stand to play and get silly a bit more too. Every time I walk through JoW, I’m so happy to see the families having such a good time together— it’s not only the kids trying to water bend, the adults are right up there too! Bonus, it’s a great spot to cool off and it looks so pretty at night too.

It was a little toasty even with the spritzing misters of Moana’s, so we ducked into Communicore Hall. I think they did a cute job with the banners/decals/plants!

IMG_7063.jpeg

On the other hand, I did a terrible job by only taking pictures on the side with the food booth, but I swear the other half had more plants, less tables. As a whole, it was so much more welcome and inviting than when it debuted at last year’s Food and Wine as Merch City:

IMG_8761.webp

I know we’ve all collectively been let down by Communicore Hall, but I believe that whoever designed and okayed it is long gone onto other projects, and that the creative team in place managing its displays this year has done a super job with what they’ve been given to work with. You can tell they care, or at least are watching and paying attention— case in point, these flower decals on the floor:

IMG_7065.jpeg

They didn’t not hold up under the wear and tear of constant traffic— I didn’t take a picture of any of the scruffy looking ones, but a few were already starting to peel by mid April with another month and a half of festival to go. So for Goofy’s Summer exhibit, they commissioned and installed a giant custom carpet instead. That’s the kind of stuff that doesn’t happen when the team is phoning it in or doing things “on the cheap”.

We walked through the displays and learned about the floating gardens and how topiaries are made, all while surrounded by approximately fifty thousand six hundred seventy two orchids (I’ll say it again: Disney loves their orchids). I did appreciate that each variety was given its own special tag! My mom wrote a couple down to find when she’s back home.

IMG_7067.jpeg

IMG_7069.jpeg

We left out the other doors into the plaza, which was between Encanto sets and blessedly quiet (no shade towards Encanto—- it’s just LOUD anytime the DJ is there). It did not mean the plaza was empty however…

IMG_7071.jpeg

Don’t be distracted by the Orange Birds, friends! Do you see the man in the bottom left? He was taking advantage of the break between sets to turn the plaza into his own personal CrossFit gym. In this particular picture he’s in the middle of an impressive amount of decline pushups. No audience, no live-streaming. Just a man getting in his reps. I guess “summer bodies” CAN be built at Disney. Does this mean I can schedule more trips? For fitness reasons of course 😉
