Of course it is....it is not about the vehicle...We have seen examples as Omnimover, Boat, Bus Bar, suspended like Peter Pan... Basically any "ride" that moves you through a series of settings and scenes...Generally indoors... but I don't know where the discussion of "What is a dark ride" is getting any of us.... we all know what we mean by that terminology...

I am nervous about the future of Villains Land at MK today based on the leaks from the new show at DHS. If the show performs as poorly in person as expected based on the video, what is the chance that key decision makers use that data (attendance and/or negative survey criticism) as a justification to cancel Villains Land / rework it into another IP? The new show is objectively bad and I could see management saying something like “we have observed that the Villains IP does not resonate with our guests as much as we previously anticipated” when the reality is that this show was poorly produced and its success/failure has nothing to do with the chances of success of a future Villains IP (unless management forces creatives into similar budget restraints or creative guardrails).

I really don’t think this is intended to be the barometer people think it is.

Like ROTM and Gringotts, Guardians is a dark ride coaster hybrid. It primarily uses gravity as a method of movement versus a powered track system to traverse a majority of the ride.
This goes back to the Pretzel company using gravity as their power to traverse an enclosed building with gags.

Semantics aside, think about primarily what general public would call the primary thrill or concept of the experience.

MIB and Buzz are laser tag games, but still dark rides.

There is always overlap when you mix concepts in mediums.

Like film genres.

I know we are off track... but what else are we talking about... So I'll throw my $.02 in.

Ride system, style of ride, and thrill level are all independent of each other. (We have dark rides that are boats, busbar, trackless, flume, omnimover, kuka, scoop, and even moving walkway)

That being said... do you classify Jungle cruise as? it's basically and outdoor dark ride... which seems to be contradictory? I know it's a boat ride, but that is the ride vehicle... if you road around in little jeeps instead I still don't know what I would call it.

I also can't really figure out the ride "style" on Safari and people mover

Half of those mentioned aren't dark rides.
I might give you villains con (moving walkway) not being a dark ride... but I still think it's a dark ride... Please let me know which of the following are NOT dark rides:
boats: Navi River Journey
busbar: Mr. Toads Wild Ride
trackless: Mystic Manor
flume: Splash Mountain
omnimover: Haunted Mansion
kuka: Monsters Unchained
scoop: Spider Man

If this turns out to be true..

Impossible!? Though I do think Werewolf should be rethemed, there also needs to be a Creature from Black Lagoon something and maybe a better tribute to Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney and Bela Lagosi in a revised Darkmoor Monster Makeup Museum.

It's possible the characters and themes are too far removed from their classic source material and fans aren't eating it up as Universal Creative had hoped. I've heard nothing but good however. Seems to be a hit. Guess we'll see.

Definitely hard to judge now since they are keeping capacity so low AND they had so many previews that is suspect for many guests this is not their first time at the park so already done the rides, possibly with the exception of Battle at the Ministry as that was open the least during previews.

Monsters Unchained having one of the lowest wait times is interesting (currently 10 mins while Mario Kart is 45 and Mine Kart is 25) ... Though I do think it has pretty high capacity when running well. Certainly more than Mine Kart
