Not a single dollar is. Property taxes are for municipal services (police, fire, local roads, sewers, parks, rec programs, etc).

NJ MVC is a state agency. State income tax, state sales tax, and other fees pay for that mess.
ours is nice doing renewals mostly online so we don't have to go there.

. At least some states will let you RENEW an existing REAL ID DL online.
That’s my state. Once you have it, you’re good for online after that. When my kids got their first licenses a decade or so ago I provided everything then so they’d never have to worry about it after as we fly all the time.
We were at MCO this week and there was a line for non-Real ID people….it was long.😕

That is how it is in my State. I have been renewing online for over a decade.

You can renew a Real ID drivers license online in NJ too…it’s the initial license that requires an appointment in person
Yep, we just haven been able to get them for long. Many people in NJ are on their first Real ID.

I know there is a difference between State and Federal but the fact that I have a Passport, a Firearms ID (that requires my fingerprints to be on file) and Global Entry (which in addition to fingerprints also required an in-person interview) should somehow negate the need for me to bring a credit card statement with my address on it to the DMV.

I have a passport and I agree. That should automatically qualify someone for a real ID, since all those same things were already authenticated!

The guy in front of me at the DMV was trying to get them to explain why he needed to fill out the form. He said "The information that is on this form is the exact same information that is on my current non-RealID drivers license. You have this information in your systems. Can't I just tell you my license information is correct and we can be done with it".

I'm not really trying to defend Real ID. I don't think the benefits are worth it.

Your passport and global entry card does nothing to prove your address. Your firearms ID, if it even has an address, doesn't means the address is current or if it was ever verified.

I don't know why a verified address should be required

In WI, in order to update an address on your license, all you have to do is go online and change your address. No proof needed. Yet, I have to prove I live at an address that hasn't changed and is on my current license?? 🙄
