Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*

They should have called it the D+ Avengers rather than the New Avengers, it’s a team up of all the D+ hero’s but unless you watched the D+ shows you likely have no idea who any of them are.

I don’t understand the rebranding, as the Thunderbolts I thought it was doing pretty well, as an Avengers movie it’s looking like a massive flop. The expectations are vastly different with that name.
The movie is about the New Avengers. They have been emphasizing the asterisk for years. This was always the plan, and it’s a clever one.

Exactly ONE (1) character has appeared only in a D+ series.

Well that’s stupid…because the mass audience liked the old Avengers…and no need to bring attention to that

Not only that, but I even discussed it in this thread about the change of name.

There is a reason why there is an * at the end of the title, it looks like it'll be a running joke in the movie on what they should call themselves. And its because that isn't going to be there official name by the end of the movie.

I'm guessing you haven't seen it yet.

They aren't the "real" Avengers, which is the whole point of the movie and a point that is brought up over and over.

This is just marketing. The movie itself hasn't been renamed, on the marquee of theaters and apps showing the showtimes it still says "Thunderbolts*".

SOS, dude

Didn’t matter if I’ve seen it, ebert

I’m not a movie critic

What I do pretty well is tell the thick skulled what Disneys goals, interests and measures of success are.

The fact people try to play dumb and make excuses for a conglomerate in no need of excuses ain’t on me.

Now…I will see it this week…but I gotta say that I have heard from word of mouth is the effusive critic praise ballyhooed 5 days ago just might be too sugary

Interested though

Well the comments you've made come across as silly because they aren't the reality, and when you see the film you'll see why they are silly.

What I do pretty well is tell the thick skulled what Disneys goals, interests and measures of success are.
As you once told me recently, since you're not in the boardroom or any production meetings you don't know what Disney's goals, interests or measurements of success really are. Those are YOUR goals, interests, and measurements of success and you assume those are the same as Disney's. Which I can safely say are probably not aligned since you have such disdain for this management.

The fact people try to play dumb and make excuses for a conglomerate in no need of excuses ain’t on me.
Just because people have different opinions than you doesn't mean they are playing dumb or are making excuses for anything. Its just a different opinion.

Reviews still are high, so it'll remain to be seen if WoM is actually there or not.

But I do hope you enjoy it when you do see it.

It should also be noted that in the comics, the New Avengers (like the Young Avengers) are a distinct team that has frequently existed alongside the Avengers.

All that aside, having seen the film, I’m more invested in the New Avengers as a team (rather then as a collection of individual heroes) then I ever was in the Avengers.

You have two options as I see it:

1. Hit the “I” button
2. Get a friend

This is more akin to Dark Avengers in my opinion than New Avengers, but same point. :)

Nah ...

Walker and Bucky were both in Falcon & the Winter Soldier and Yelena was in Hawkeye

Walker is the only character exclusively from a D+ show, ie the only character people who didn't watch them wouldn't know who he was which was the the original posters point.

Both Bucky and Yelena were in the MCU in movies prior to their appearing in the D+ shows.

I’m also +1 on this comment doesn’t make sense. The vast majority originate to the movies. And only F&TWS would be requisit watching otherwise, which was actually fairly popular. (I didn’t like that series, so that isn’t an empty defense)

A young Avengers though would definitely be a D+ Avengers team.

I don’t want to get into aggressive spoilers and marketing I guess decided to. But your complaints are directly addressed head on in the film. The news cycle in world is all about how “they aren’t my avengers” tongue and cheek.

I feel like this is similar to she hulk where the people who already complained non stop went into a huge uproar because marvel unambiguously called them out.

Maybe I just associate them to D+ because of the same day release of Black Widow, I forgot it was even released in theaters so I associate Yelena, Taskmaster, and Red Guardian to D+, John Walker and Countessa (Julia Louis Dreyfus) were from Cap + Winter Soldier so I also associate them to D+, the only characters I’ve actually seen on the big screen are Bucky and the Ghost.

I know a couple had cameos/post credit scenes in other films but since they weren’t principal characters they are kind of forgotten.

I have a suspicion (just that)…that T-Bolts is gonna be put to bed this time next week…

Not to be confused with the T-Bolt…the classic John Miller/Andy Vettel masterpiece coaster 🎢
