What makes a Disney castle park, a castle park?

I don’t want all the parks to be carbon copies - but I want the structure to be the same.

Does a park need a jungle cruise and a splash /Tiana? No because Paris doesn’t and it certainly counts. But Paris has other charming additions that MK and Tokyo don’t…. Like Casey jr. And Storybook.

I am concerned that Tokyo also seems to be on board with taking a classic element and replacing with modern IP.

Oh they could absolutely do it -- they've themed attractions on all sides before (like the nearby Seven Dwarfs Mine Train). It's really about whether they're willing to.

One of the signs (Frontierland/Adventureland) has returned looking good as new!

As much as I love the classic Disney rides, I do think it’s important to note that Japan has a different, unique culture, and if proposed changes are in keeping with that, I’m ok with it. I’d be curious to hear people from Japan weigh in on those possible changes. I think I remember seeing in a Disney documentary that Japan’s relationship with Disney really is more about the IP, which I think is reflected in their amazing hotels and theming.

In the US, the larger than life image of Walt, the Americana, the nostalgic rides have a very deep significance, and I worry that this could be lost in search of “the new hotness”. It’s a bit cliche to say that more and more, we live in a disposable culture, but I think it’s true. There’s value in what’s classic and iconic, not just what’s flashy and new.

As I mentioned above, there are major differences between the two.

Rivers of America is a fundamental part of the park design; two lands rely on it as part of their organizational structure. Jungle Cruise is just a ride. It has very little effect on Adventureland itself and none whatsoever outside of Adventureland.

In my opinion it’s hard to compete with the ROA as it anchors so much of the park. Anywhere you walk in that section of the park you are experiencing the ROA. Isolated or indoor attractions like the Jungle Cruise and Enchanted Tiki Room don’t have the same impact. Granted, removing a collection of indoor rides also has a significant impact on the park experience especially if they are beloved and/ or classic attractions but I don’t think it’s to the same degree. The train is a loss but less so IMO because it doesn’t circumnavigate the park. With that said I’m unaware of its layout and how much atmosphere/ kinetic energy it provides guests who are NOT riding it.

It feels like a Castle park needs a Castle, a Main Street equivalent, a land set in the past, a land set in the future and a Fantasyland as that's what all 6 have. But when it comes to the attraction lineup, only the Carousel, a Dumbo attraction, a teacup style attraction (Shanghai has a Pooh overlay) and an interactive dark ride seem to be at all 6 parks.
Pirates, a Big Thunder equivalent, Haunted Mansion equivalent, Peter Pan's Flight, It's a Small World and Space Mountain can be found at 5/6 Castle Parks
