Maybe you just don’t understand how marketing works.
Regardless the system still requires testing and verification before being integrated into the existing ride system and show scenes.

I questioned their overselling it and making it sound like it's the newest thing out there. They are literally duplicating a standard done elsewhere for decades.. and are treating it like... a new cupcake!

You questioned why they didn’t just send them to Anaheim and copy that. This definitely suggested you were questioning the testing itself and not simply the promotion.

Again.. overselling. You've never heard of bringing glee with surprise? Or the boost you get from over delivering? Or negative effects of talking to people like they are a child or treating them like they are stupid? Just throwing out 'marketing' doesn't make it smart.
Literally the instagram video says "we've been testing out these new gameplay elements for a few months and then we brought the best of the best in the field with us today. We hope to get a lot of valuable feedback on what's working really well, what's intuitive and easy to understand..."
For the end user it's literally the same concept that's been in use elsewhere for over a decade. Like I said, want to know how the concepts play out? Just head over to Anaheim and tweak from there.
Disney has a serious problem with overselling and under delivering.. and this kind of promotion just reenforces their lack of mastery of the show/reveal.
But someone will get to point to how many instagram plays they got and pat each other on the back.. while in 2026 they'll be back to questioning ROI on the dollars because the then flat launch doesn't give them the boost they were after.
Yeah... marketing!

Idk it’s literally the biggest issue with the ride.
It’s a game changer for the ride even if it’s not a game changer within the industry.
It’s a huge win and associated with a huge infrastructure cost that a lot of guests won’t explicitly notice but will have a much better time because of it.

Sure they could have left these updates to be a surprise but that wasn’t the point of this messaging. The attraction is closing for necessary infrastructure updates that are unrelated to anything announced in this marketing. Those updates will require a multi month closure of the attraction that coincides with multiple other closures around the park. To soften the blow of that additional closure they chose to play up some guest facing updates that will also be taking place during this time. If they simply announced an extended refurbishment people would be angry about yet another attraction closing. Instead the buzz on social media is almost entirely positive. Marketing.

90% of the audience will enjoy the little video, maybe get more excited for it, and file away “hey! Something new!” And keep scrolling. Mission accomplished.

Embracing mediocre just creates more of it.
In all fairness, the same segment of people who are reacting positively to this have a lot of overlap with the same ones that wet themselves over new popcorn bucket announcements, so gauge your perception of the impact accordingly.
The average guest doesn't know and doesn't care other than it's still costing them the same to visit.

I don't think they've ever been in the business of adding or upgrading attractions and then quietly opening them with a bashful "gee, we hope you like this." Nor have they ever really promoted new additions with the tone of "there will be a new nightly fireworks show from July. We hope you have been sufficiently informed." It's always magic, dreams, and pixie dust, as well as playing up the mystique of Imagineering.
There is plenty to complain about when it comes to how the parks are run, but I think people need to pick their battles. When everything is terrible, we get this whiplash between "why are we getting no information?" on one project when they don't do posts like this to "why are they making such a big deal about nothing?" when they do.

As someone who has been critical of a lot of the parks decisions, I for one am glad they are giving this one some TLC and improving the guest experience without any guarantee of an immediate ROI. Sure, it’ll have the carryon effect of improving its desireability of an attraction when it returns, but this is a good thing and something that should be applauded/rewarded.

They’re complaining about Disney “overselling” the upgrades instead of just doing them. Which to me, overselling means hyping up small details.
I’d argue they’re not overselling them, but even if they are “overselling” the upgrades, it’s surprising to have that perspective from someone who’s on a forum.
