I would still bet on elio if that film is a big success.
They've had 15 years to incorporate a different Pixar movie into Tomorrowland and haven't. You think they'd retheme all of Tomorrowland to one very-recent movie?

that's not how this works seth meyers GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Did they specifically say "Buddy" was going to be an actual physical character? I just assumed since they were adding screens to ride vehicles, he'd pop up at the beginning and end.
Other comments say yes.. plus when combined with their language here
"
As their adventure begins, guests will now be greeted by an all-new character! This friendly robot — aptly named “Buddy” — was created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios to play a key role on the Star Command team.
As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim. This will be a great time for guests to check out some of the new, interactive target features before blasting off to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg and save the galaxy"

Makes me believe you'll have that 'new scene' with Buddy at the start.. and then maybe he bobs along with you on your video screen in your vehicle throughout the ride.

Pretty sure that's Buddy

You're basing your rather rude response on a piece of concept art? One that does make it seem as if there will be a physical set piece in that location?
I did not intend my post to come off as rude. I apologize to @monothingie if it came off that way. Anyway you seem to agree with me that it’s pretty clear that it’s going to be a real prop. My question was did the poster in question actually read the article and look at the art.

Not to be pedantic, but Fantasyland has at least three dark rides with Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, and Winnie the Pooh. Still less than DLR, but not as big a disparity.
You are right! I forgot about Mermaid and Pan. I was doing my mental math of comparing it to Disneyland's FL with Pooh replacing Toad, Snow White being removed, and no Pinocchio or Alice. I always skip Pan due to the wait time and terrible second half, so it has become a blind spot for me apparently. :)

Maybe you aren't familiar with what "total retheme" refers to?

A nickel's worth of free advice - Check yourself.
I followed your advice and checked the chain of posts I was replying to and it turns out we are both wrong. The conversation as it was when I replied was about the ride that shall not be named so it wasn’t about space ranger spin or Tomorrowland as a whole.

No apology needed because snark or whatever doesn't bother me.

I did read the Disney PR. Disney also has been known recently to occasionally (😏) overpromise and under deliver when concept art and media releases are dropped. It it is @flynnibus said being both screens and physical set piece (I'm not feeling it as a full fledge AA), then that's fine. Like I said, when they said they were adding screens to all the vehicles, I just assumed that's the direction they were going.

No
Around 2022 there was a rumor that Tomorrowland was going to be rethemed to the movie Lightyear with both space ranger spin and space mountain receiving major updates. After the movie flopped it was cancelled.
The question was regarding It's a Small World with the dolls themed to Disney characters, not Buzz Lightyear.

I don’t think it’s going to be a full scale AA. I’m thinking a figure with limited movement.

I always find it interesting that Buzz is one of 3 attractions to be replicated at 6+ Disney Parks in addition to Dumbo and some version of the Carousel. That fact alone should make it part of the Disney Attractions classics lineup
Although Tokyo and Hong Kong have replaced their versions already. If Fantastic 4 or Stitch do well, I could see it leaving Disneyland as well. Now if they would only replace WEB Slingers as well, maybe we could get a shooting ride as good as MIB Alien Attack. Come on Disney!!

Sorry I don’t agree she looks very CGI like to me and I prefer a full physical figure versus whatever the heck they got going over there.
Both looked very CGI with bad projection. The floating does look good in person, and this new figure doesn't have weird projected hands and spout corny one-liners throughout the attic.

Maybe it will change in the final version, but how is it that they expect the blasters attached with only a wire to last?

Even if reinforced, guests will rip these things out, smack other riders in the face with, or flat out destroy them.
The blasters in Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong are only attached by a wire. As are the guns at MIB which is located in Florida.

Could they not just send these people to Anaheim and say "just copy that..."

The oversell here is kinda lame
It doesn’t really work that way. The Anaheim version opened 20 years ago. The hardware and software being used in Florida will be significantly different from what’s being used there. And even if it was being copied from Anaheim there would still be a need to test in the field in Florida. The attractions are far from identical.
