Wonder if they wait for some positive news to bury this in (parade debut, etc) or just hold off for a while including after Destination D23

Actually, that might be my guess - focus on new stuff that is coming and maybe give us some more on Villains land, etc (the stuff people - especially the hard core fans attending) at the event and then like a week or two after, probably on a Friday, announce the River's closure date

I think that was the initial plans but I thought no approvals took a little longer than expected an not sure they would want to close it during party season

So my guess is the announcement comes out in September but it doesn't close until into 2026. Likely Mid January

I am sure there are some things from Disneyland he wouldn't want ever being replaced. People tend to use the "Disneyland isn't a museum" quote to justify change for the sake of change, without the context that he also said that really early on, like in the 50s iirc. Back then Disneyland was like, mostly undeveloped land and concrete.

There's also that "blessing of size" quote about Florida.

Dig around and you can make some out-of-context quote from him agree with just about any argument but the point stands that in DL where they don't have the "blessing of size", they've managed to keep ROA and still have a considerably higher attraction count than MK so WDW not wanting to build out at the MK when they own the land and their park is not blocked in by major public roadways in the middle of a city is telling.

Clearly, there is no need to replace when they can actually do the dictionary definition of expand.

This was a choice, not a requirement. It never had to be one or the other. It was their decision to make it that way - period.

What people of Walt’s generation were nostalgic for are not the same as people who are bringing their kids currently.

That’s how nostalgia works.

It’s become a shrine/museum to Walt. Anything outside of what can be perceived as Walt’s vision will be attacked.

But they completely ignore that Walt stated he didn’t want Disneyland to be a museum, it should be changing with the times.

The only way this is true is if you read posts from like 4 or 5 specific posters and ignore every single other person posting here.

There are about as many posters who think everything Disney does is great and automatically dismiss all criticism as there are who attack everything Disney does no matter what it is. Most posters are in the middle where they like some things and dislike others.

That’s not true at all. While the end result isn’t everything I hoped for - galaxies edge is a good addition to Disneyland that was a win-win for all areas of the park.

Disney does a lot of dumb things but the chances that they made water management approval in one round a critical milestone is almost nonexistent. It’s just too colossally dumb. It was wishcasting based on not knowing the process.

The permits also showed plenty of work that can and should be accomplished with Rivers still open.

This is an utterly nonsensical statement reflecting a willful lack of critical thought.

Multiple insightful posters including the owner of this site have pointed out the corporate motivations that have doomed RoA and Muppets.

It is entirely because of a desire to monetize every single attraction in the park IMO. If it doesn’t sell LLs it is doomed. However this mentality of squeezing every penny out of guests will only work for so long. At some point it becomes cost prohibitive compared to many other vacations. They are losing the balance.
