MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I guess? Villains just seem kind of faddish in their current push as misunderstood antiheroes, and a "dark" park feels really off-brand to me for Disney.

I'm actually afraid that Disney - current Disney - is too timid to lean into the villains in this land enough.
Current Disney is afraid to give the kids a scare, lest some ill informed parents complain that they had no idea some present day version of Alien Encounter despite all of the more than adequate warning signs - turns out to actually be scary.
So how dark and scary is Disney willing to go?

It doesn't, I suppose. My understanding of the term would be that it's becoming one, but I suppose as someone who is not a career designer of such things, it's possible I'm invoking the term incorrectly.

Absolutely, that's two (of the many) reasons I don't think they should build a villains park.

I really meant in the context of the people that really do want some kind of major villains presence; I don't think a land is going to offer what they're hoping. I certainly wasn't suggesting a villains park is a good idea.

What would the underlying theme for this hypothetical park be? Just a bunch of random IP-based lands? That sounds like a lousy idea for a fifth gate.

You make great points. If they were to go with this idea, Liberty Square would potentially need to be rethemed to a pioneer settlement. I don’t think it would make Magic Kingdom less interesting though. Even if Liberty Square and Frontierland combined into one land, it would still be about half the size DLP’s Frontierland. I’d imagine Haunted Mansion area could be rethemed as a nice transition between Fantasyland to Villains and Frontierland to Villains.

Although, why not tell the story of an in-land colonial capital like Williamsburg? The story of Liberty Square, as it exists today, is already imperfect given the time period inconsistencies. It is supposed to represent colonial America during the late 18th century. But the Hudson River Valley Gothic Rivival architecture of the Haunted Mansion and the presence of a paddlewheel steamship, both from the 19th century, are inconsistent.

Recognizing the river that once existed and tying it into a new story sounds exactly like something Disney would do.

I hope it is a mix - with the main split being the dark ride is softer and more family friendly but the coaster is darker (with a height restriction to keep kids out)

definitely no way the whole land will not be approachable to many kids/families, but hoping at least some darker touches

there’s quite a few questions about how this will actually work. Setting aside my love for the riverboat itself - what exactly are we plopping down here.

Will the landscape change from colonial, to western wilderness, to New Orleans, to Wild West mining town?

And in all reality I think the cars will be visible from portions of current Frontierland - maybe not all of FL and Liberty square - but I doubt they are completely hidden.

So how does that all tie in? Does the cars ride become completely fictional and only make sense in Disney? That’s fine - the riverboat does that already. Just wondering.

Prior to the Tiana's changeover there was a evolution of time going from East to West starting with the HM which was the oldest and set furthest east and moving went and forward in time (though Splash didn't really fit either, at least geographically but fit better timewise). But Tiana's broke that and Cars Land will moreso

So think just have to not think of the area set in any specific time but just the broader concept of "Frontier" and exploration of the North American continent

River boat and rivers definitely set earlier but HM I understood to be mid-18th (so 1750s, etc) Century Hudson Valley NY where as by the tree and Hall of Presidents is 1776 or so

So more the walkway from East to West follows a rough timeline

You definitely could tie it together with the look and feel and have creepy woods outside that lead into and also delineate Villains Land proper
