Even though I've been on Everest and seen him with my own two eyes, I never ACTUALLY expected him to be THAT large. Now I envy anyone who's gotten to see him in A Mode even more.

I hold the rare opinion that the Yeti Animatronic was poorly placed and not that impressive looking in context. I saw him multiple times in A-Mode the first two years, and you passed him by so quickly that it was blink and you'll miss it. I wish they had done this instead:

A channel on youtube uploaded 3 videos with the yeti behind the scenes. The first is test footage of his animations from multiple angles from 2008. We've all seen bits and pieces of footage like this before.

The second video is from 2010 and it's a movement test for the yeti. It's a 37 minute long animation test when they move the yeti into different positions and then have him swipe his arm back and forth only moving his arm. I could be wrong, but to me it looks like they were looking for a 3rd mode between A mode and B mode with him just moving his arm. Or maybe they were just just testing the range of motion he still had left. A moment I want to highlight is at 9:42 where the yeti, after being stationary for a full minute, suddenly lurches upright with frightening power and speed while a man fiddles around at his base.

The third video is pretty long at 33 minutes as well. This is the least interesting footage as it's just a man in a cherry picker moving around the yeti taking pictures and giving him a dental exam. It shows the scale of the yeti really well.

This was fascinating. Thanks for posting it. I wonder when the last time they put him through his paces was.

Luckily enough to ride it in A-mode. It literally felt like the Yeti was going to pluck you right out of your seat.
