DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Especially now that it’s sushi and not pizza.

Is the quick service planned to be sushi too? I wasn’t sure if they were going to be 2 independent restaurants or just a table service and quick service version of the same. The pizza at Rizzo was not good at all and was mostly the same as when it was pizza planet (also bad) so I won‘t be sad to see that go. Quick service Asian food with sushi would be a nice addition to the park. Since Italian food is pretty popular I wonder if they eventually update something else to Italian.

But there lies the problem. I haven't gone back to find it, but I believe DHS has LESS attractions than it had like 25-30 years ago (or at least the same amount maybe?). The problem is the development period you are talking about was a net negative from an attractions perspective. And that's what gets people mad. I love MV3D. Had they built stuff out, and just decided due to age, it was time, I'd be sad. I'd be upset. But I'd get it. I can argue all day at the quality of the transformation, but the bottom line is that the transformation is not adding capacity to improve guest experience. I'm glad this is at least adding something with this, but they need a lot more stuff.

So I've been tracking it and with RNRC & Muppets closing in 2025 whilst Little Mermaid and Villains open, the park capacity will be at 18 listed attractions in 2025. Once Muppets RNRC, Monsters Show and Monsters Door Coaster opens, there will be 21 attractions operating at the park (as long as nothing closes), the most attractions since 2009/10 when there were 20

We spent 20 years begging for this coaster and got buyer’s remorse when it was finally announced? Then we said, “I hope it’s not just a ride replacing a 20-minute show,” and they said, “fine, you can have a new show AND the coaster,” and we said, “no, thanks.”

Not me.

Initially, I though Muppets were to be destroyed and replaced with the monsters coaster, a net zero gain of attractions, in fact, in that case, its a loss of capacity because everyone goes to theater shows but only a sub set of those go on coasters, therefore, less capacity.

Now we are getting the coaster AND a show, that is a net GAIN of attractions.

As I have posted before, RnR needed to be re themed anyway so, its good they are using Muppets.

The rumor that they will move Muppets 3D will never happen, they just are saying that to lower the outrage.

And as I have posted before, IF the "New" show in the monsters area is the Laugh floor just being moved and we end up with another CLOSED attraction in MK. THAT WOULD BE BAD!

Honestly, I think GE is a bit of a poor design personally, it's just too cramped. BUT, as far as lackluster, I think a part of it (I guess at least for me) is that there has been a recent history of over-promising and under-delivering. Go look at the TSL concept art (the original) and then look at the details removed. Go listen to the big announcement for GE and then look at the stuff cut out of it (with parts of it put behind a $6,000 paywall eventually). I think when you get people excited for a thing and then cut portions out, people will find it lackluster, whether what was left was done very well or not.

That's fair, I do enjoy SGE even though I do think it could have been done better in hindsight. I do agree on the overpromising though. For me the main example of that is EPCOT.

Do we know that MuppetVision*3D is officially closing in 2025? Who’s to say Disney doesn’t do a phased closure of the area and leave MuppetVision open longer. They can build the coaster in the backstage without interrupting the current offerings.

Obviously they could just blanket close off the entire area, but if they’re doing a phased closure with Dinoland, no reason they couldn’t here.

If you don't know what the Twilight Zone is, you still won't know there's an IP attached.

It spells it out for you in the preview room. That's like saying CBS shouldn't air the pilot of The Twilight Zone in the 1950s because no one knew what it was about.

Lackluster product? I find SGE to be one of the best lands Disney has made with RoTR being one of the best attractions, and it is wildly popular. Avatar is a great land and FoP is another phenomenal attraction. Tropical Americas looks great, fits Animal Kingdom, and is not a pure "IP land" everyone hates on here. Monsters Inc is an improvement on Muppet Courtyard for 95% of people.

I just disagree that the product has been lackluster. There are stuff I don't like- especially LL. And some decisions I think could have been stronger. But saying it has been lackluster just seems ridiculous to me.

You cite two wins most would agree with...of 20 years.
I did not day all were fails. WDW as a hole is not what 2004 was. Coming out of The Disney Decade of the 90s and progress of early 2000s. which needs no explanation. And getting new attractions frequently including the scale of Everest. Tropical Americas is not open nor has it been a part of the last 20 years.

I think they may need to re-route the exit of the theater which goes through a somewhat narrow ally between the theater and the gift shop building that is going to be demoed. Outside of figuring that out they could leave Muppets open until they need to close it. So if the new Monsters show will take 9 months to redo than they could wait until 9 months prior to the whole land opening to close Muppets. The Door Coaster can also be built mostly back stage without closing the rest of the stuff.

I am similarly skeptical of MV3D returning. That’s an odd way to spend money. Maybe they’ll load it onto Disney+.

Not officially yet. We know construction begins in 2025, but we don't know for certain that Muppets and RNRC are closing in 2025. If they are delayed to 2026, then 2025 will be the first year in 15 years where HS has 20 attractions

If they bring a Muppet show back, it wont be MV3D I think. They might pull a scene or so from it to incorporate with the new show out of tribute to what was and out of respect for Jim Henson’s last work, but they’ll have something new to go along with it.

On a positive note, humanity is now forever grateful to Disney and Bob Iger for finally ridding the world of Pizza Rizzo.

I felt the post I was responding to wasn't talking about the last 20 years, but the last 5-10. Which has included: Avatar, SGE, TSL, Cosmic Rewind, Ratatouille, Tron, MMRR, and yes, the disappointing EPCOT refresh. A few of those attractions I believe to be on a similar scale as Everest, and I have hard time thinking of any attractions from the 2,000's outside of Everest that are on the same level. But my memory may be failing.

I think many of those more recent high quality attractions and investments that give me optimism about the new projects.

Yes. The last five to ten have been where most of the catch up has happened. That is why the parks are quick to replace so much that they see as stale. They are still playing catch up for the first decade and a half of meh. New Fantasyland kicked off this knee jerk rush replacement mode as the first response to the Wizarding World.

This is why the last five to seven years of the 20 are so heavy and you have a hard tim remembering much after Everest.
