Imagineers had shoestring budgets when they built the MK DLR and EPCOT. The results for the most part were unbelievable. The argument that the poor domestic parks get their budgets cut doesn’t fly. It’s a lack of talent and ambition. There is no comparison between WDI past and present.
Correct, there isn’t. We appreciate the attractions of the past because of their history to both us personally and the company. But the reality is that standards are so high today from a technology standpoint that attractions cost many multiples more than they did 25+ years ago. The talent to produce them also comes at a much, much higher cost.

The special effects technology in Fast X is vastly superior to Wizard of Oz.

Guess which one is the much better movie?

It’s also ridiculous to claim that something like EPCOT was built on a shoestring budget.

I’ve been optimistic and excited for this ride since its announcement. I thought it was time to give the ride a facelift, and I’m a huge Princess and the Frog fan. That said, I’d say this is a downgrade, which is not what I expected to say yesterday. I do love the new animatronic, and I am happy with the look of the exterior of the mountain. Unfortunately, the lift is done poorly, which destroys the climax of the ride. There is no excitement, no anxiety, no fear, and no reason to be going up there anyway. I will never understand not using Friends on the Other Side as it builds suspense and fun. I can’t believe how blank and wasted the space going up the hill feels. Choosing the lighter route could have worked if they made it more like an actual party. All it would have taken was bottles strung the entire way up, but they could have done so much more. Animatronics looking excited or anxious as they waved you to the party. Fireflies zipping over the edge. Something, anything! They route they chose is so bland. Also, the 3D characters on the screens are not as beautiful as their 2D counterparts, and I’m confused why they went that direction. I don’t hate the screens, but I do hate that they didn’t animate the characters as we recognize them.
Super disappointed.

That's what I meant, though -- if you divorced Tiana from Splash, and look at it as a new build, it's a better attraction than LM.

That's not really intended as praise for Tiana. LM is just a very low bar to clear; it's among Disney's worst attractions IMO.
You can’t divorce it and look at it as a new build because it isn’t. Even if elements of it could make for a decent ride on its own, that’s not what we got. Set pieces and show elements would have to be different, and yeah, it probably would be a better ride for it.

I mean, I just don't how some of you don't see that it's a clear technological upgrade. The AAs are much, much better, even if there are fewer. The set design is more detailed (albeit a different creative direction). Yes, the screen before the lift leaves a lot to be desired but otherwise I thought it was well done, well timed. It has it's mix of fun, calm and chaotic scenes.
It is absolutely, in no objective evaluation, a 'clear technological upgrade'. Running circa 60 animatronic figures was impressive. Running 10 advanced ones and even less static figures isn't.

How about a good solid couple of base hits or doubles? Not everything needs to be a smash budget destroying blockbuster D/E-Ticket.

According to what? The terrible YouTube dislike extension that is been known to be inaccurat?
You can go and compare it with other videos they post. Most of the other prior TBA related videos on Disney's youtube accounts have much more favorable ratings with a lower dislike count. This one is uniquely skewed to having a large dislike count. I didn't expect it to be so negative, but even quite a lot of formerly optimistic people on this forum are now turning on the retheme after seeing it in full. This sentiment may not just be exclusive to this forum or negative breeding grounds like Twitter. We'll see, should be an interesting summer.

It's not Starcruiser video bad at least. Not yet anyway. Dislikes are rapidly catching up to the likes now though. Now it's 3.7K likes and 3.2K dislikes.

So a YouTuber had already put together a side by side comparison video. It’s shocking how big of a downgrade Tiana’s is when seen side by side.

I would say 1/10 comments in the video are positive and even those use words like “fine” or “looks like it could be fun”.

This is a massive failure for TWDC.

Do we have any insider info on why imagineering is so dysfunctional ?

Am I suppose to believe that during this entire process no one spoke up and was like “Hey maybe we should build a little bit of tension for the ride with a 53 foot drop.”

Personally, I am amazed at shear number of expert ride designers in this forum. The untapped expertise is absolutely astounding. The fact that Disney or any other theme park has not snapped up these visionaries is sad indeed. Instead, this vast wealth of talent is left behind keyboards to pontificate their bottomless knowledge to other fanboy experts. In fact, the number of experts in all areas should have Disney (and Universal) combing this webpage for the obvious talent. Why we have experts here in ride & theme park design. Experts in transportation and infrastructure design. A wealth of hotel & room experts along with culinary/restaurant visionaries. Not to mention the wealth of talent regarding costumes, security, finance, management and horticulture. Job offers from major theme park operators should be arriving anytime now.

In the end it is just individual opinions. My opinion means no more than anybody else's opinion. And vice versa. Of course, if Vegas was taking odds when this project began as to which of those here that would end up disliking the ride based on early posts, I could have put my kids through college and paid off the mortgage. Disney is not perfect and has certainly made their share of missteps which I do not agree with of like. But those are just my opinions, it doesn't make anything wrong or right. If somebody does not like this retheme, that is fine. If somebody loves it, that is fine as well. I guess I cannot understand the deep feelings some have for a theme park ride. Good for them, I just can't comprehend getting so worked up over a ride. In the end, it is just a theme park ride and the change has absolutely no bearing on my life good or bad. If I like it, I will ride it. If I don't care for it, I won't ride it. And life will go on.
Have a magical weekend everyone.
Okay man
