While Disney gets something in this agreement, the decision to vacate the contract is pretty overwhelming. Disney's best piece of leverage against Florida, the contract, is no more. That was the thing their case rested upon. It's over and done. Giving that up willingly is a tactical retreat. That's not to say Disney lost the "war." I don't see any winners or losers here, because this is best for both the state and Disney. But that is a concession on their part. But they're doing this on their own terms in an orderly way. And that's smart.

By the way, and this isn’t directed at anybody in particular this comment reminded me though. I don’t want to come off as I know anything about law, districts and such. I’m looking at this from a high point of view and only giving opinions. I’m not versed in law, or public districts.

This is exactly right. This was an unnecessary distraction for Iger. While I'm no Iger fan, I would have advised to get out of this case and focus on the bigger issues. That's the future of the company and his legacy.

It's a deal they can enforce. If the governor or the board violates the terms of the settlement, all bets are off.

No - the statement i repiked to was “I have a feeling they had input in the new chain and administrator. Felt they were people they could work with. I could obviously be wrong”

The settlement doesn’t chsnge the law that the gov and state have sole discretion on board members.

Just getting someone to say ‘we’ll be nice’ is not a contract and not something disney can throw out the deal on if they don’t like an appointment or decision.

At the end of the day, this gives Disney a shorter path to certainty in growing and managing their business - which, for them, may be a huge win given their expansion plans. Many of us may not like it, given the Injustice of what was done, but the reality is Disney has a business to run and they have to do what's best for their business. If an opportunity presented itself that gave Disney that certainty and the ability to deal with a less combative board, I could see why Disney would jump at the chance, as much as I wish they didn't.

I wasn’t trying to call you out. I was just sort of commiserating about engaging in an online forum when you are an expert and are interacting with people who have strong opinions but aren’t.

For me it involves mental health stuff and hoo boy the stuff people say to me is absurd.

I'm surprised Disney is doing this, and I think it's a mistake.

This feels close to Disney just throwing in the towel on the whole issue. We obviously don't know the specific details of the proposed settlement yet -- so there could be mechanisms in place that protect Disney -- but from what's been revealed thus far DeSantis/CFTOD are getting just about everything they'd want and Disney is getting almost nothing.

I can't imagine recommending this if I was part of Disney's legal team, absent underlying issues we don't know about (which is certainly possible).

I realize you probably weren't trying to single any one person out. I’m happy that you said made a general comment though because it led to my comment. Definitely never want to ”come off“ as an expert on things I don’t know. Just trying to add some discussion to a topic I feel passionate about. I’m not here to come off as annoying, troll or as a pest.

Now if we are talking about a more specific Disney topic, then I’d love to come off as an expert .
