Is the future bleak for Disneyworld, Disneyland, etc?

Ah, but you have to understand the Six Flags Mentality
  • Replace all park music with raunchy top 40 jukebox music
  • Slap advertising all over ride vehicles and buildings
  • Have a bring a friend for $20 for 3 months straight
  • Have 45% of your shops and dining closed until 4pm.
  • Host and Hostesses on their phone while operating rides
  • And of course the removal of all themed outfits and go with the one park one uniform blue and khakis outfit.

Have season passes that are good at all parks world wide for the cost of ~2 x 1 day admissions! (not sure anyone would complain if Disney wanted to take on that portion of the model! ;) )

Seems like everything that could go wrong for Disney has done just that. Disney has had a string of box office failures, and is facing a loss by spending too much on Disney plus content. The parks are the only ones bring in the dough and unfortunately, they will probably suffer the most.

How did we get here? Well Iger has a lot to do with that with his $71.3 Billion dollar purchase of Fox a couple of years back which in my opinion, was a bad move. Also Disney is spending Billions to gain full control of Hulu. The Lockdown really put a huge dent in Disney’s future plans and they’re trying to save where they can with cost cutting, employee firings, etc.

Many attractions that were announced at the 2017, 2019 expos have been canceled or shelved including new additions at Epcot. This includes the Cherry Tree Lane area and Mary Poppins attraction, an update to Spaceship Earth, PLAY! Pavilion and a more futuristic ambitious look to World Celebration. Other parks felt this such as Disneyland Paris as their Galaxy’s Edge plans were canceled. Also, some attractions have been in constant limbo such as the new Avengers attractions for DCA and Hong Kong as well as Epcot’s new Japan film.

The parks have gained a significant amount of attractions the past couple of years all the way up until 2025 but these are rides that were announced, started groundbreaking and properly financed before the lockdown. Many of them have taken long amounts of time to be built, longer than usual. TDL is the only one getting things done by adding 3 new lands with 4 new rides along with a new space mountain but that is because they are owned by OLC.

What’s the future looking like? Well we have Tiana’s Bayou Adventure that was announced during the lockdown but this was necessary do the social climate and Disney didn’t want the bad press for keeping Splash Mountain. Attractions that have been announced at the expo and Destination D have been lackluster at best. This includes small updates to attractions like Country Bear Jamboree, Haunted Mansion, and new character meet and greets. They are also adding a new Zootopia 3D film which is significantly cheaper then buying a new attraction. The new Test Track’s bill will mostly be taken care of by GM. The reason why they show these “bluesky” attractions and lands is because they don’t have anything concrete to show us for the future so they’re trying to get us excited by shooting out possible ideas which they see as being better than showing nothing at all.

Do you think Disney will come back from this? Will Disneyworld, Disneyland, etc suffer for long? What do you all think of the current situation the parks are in?
Yeah, the company with 7 of the top 10 most attended theme parks in the world is on the brink of extinction. I swear the overdramatic posts on this board are something else.

Obviously the parks are gonna be fine in terms of attendance. I was referring to the future of the parks in terms of getting new rides, updates etc and not on the cheap. Don’t assume things, it was not overdramatic and don’t post here if all your gonna do is criticize the thread and not contribute.

You know the old saying, ask a stupid question…..

Anyway, in my view, you absolutely were being overdramatic. Go ahead and re-read what you wrote. You went on and on and on as if Disney is some flailing company about to go under. It’s not. Not even close.

Disney has the "Titanic-mentality":

"We are so big and strong that not even God can sink us....that is why we don't worry about icebergs..."

No worries folks....Disney IS big and strong. Disney is a 100 year old company that is EXTREMELY well loved by their customers globally. The Disney logo has an extremely high "trust" factor among the general public....it always has and always will. Disney is a brand that you can "trust" and will always make products that are wholesome and family friendly and of course, always with the highest quality too. We know this as a fact.

Yes, the company has had some bad luck in the past few years but there is no reason to believe that it wont turn around quickly. They have a brand new "Marvels" movie on the way which is sure to be a big holiday hit. They also have a new, modernized "Snow White" movie on slate for next year too. "Snow White" is such a huge and historic property and one that is deeply loved buy multiple generations of fans all over the world. I think this new "Snow White" movie will be a catapult that launches Disney back into it's next decades of growth. (I'd like to see them re-skin the "Seven Dwarfs Mine Train" to match the themes and look of the new movie)

Epic Universe will likely be a bomb in 2025 and I think Disney will take advantage of that when they build out all of their new, Blue-Sky ideas. It's looking good for the company,...they just need to get past this small thunderstorm they are in today.

I think Disney lost its way for a spell and feel they are working on fixing that. Plus, the mention of spending on Disney theme parks will help. Honestly, I think in the long run Disney to some extent will make everything right and do what they did best. Make awesome vacations and experiences for people.

If they continue to screw over their paying customers while making things more expensive while providing half the experience, then they may well suffer...self inflicted as well.
They are doing just fine. I already posted this in the Oogie Boogie thread but here are the crowds waiting to get into Disney California Adventure this past Sunday.

I'm not sure the attendance is down. I don't know who is pushing this narrative, but I've been in Orlando for almost 3 weeks, doing parks daily, and I can say, this has been the busiest I've ever seen Disney and Universal Parks..and we've been in December!
And the reports I’ve heard have said that Universal is down attendance wise as well - not just Disney parks. It seemed more about theme park attendance being down in general and possible causes (inflation etc.) I’ve been somewhat skeptical as to how much they are down.

Yep SFGAm was like that..In 1992 we had the Batman Stunt Show for four years in a lonely part of land and the in 1996 it became the stunt show arena became part of the Southwest territory with the WB Western Stunt show and after which it was some other odd and end shows only to become demolished and made as the Sally Corp Justice League ride..But, they state the area is now called Metropolis Plaza but, that theme and idea is unworkable as their no other rides around it..

Stuff like that doesn't bother me that much at parks like that as I'm not there for theming. I go there for coasters and thrills.

Except we have people who posted this same topic on here multiple times so maybe do a search before you post the same tired thread. But since you want us to contribute...no the future ain't bleak for Disney.
