Following for updates. My family is scheduled to leave Louisiana Friday Evening, driving in Saturday morning sometime.

When Harvey hit Texas I remember seeing a statement from an emergency manager that went viral telling people to write their SSN on their arm so that their bodies could be identified since there was no chance they would be rescued.

Orange Blossom Trail through Downtown Kissimmee is flooded with close to 2 feet of water. WFTV just showed families being evacuate.

I get why some don't evac. Maybe they are essential workers, don't have money -resources or are simply physcially not able.. I was annoyed earlier this morning ( not sure Fox or CNN as I keep flipping) but one woman was sitting in Cape Coral who didnt and her reason was something like: we got through Irma ok, it was suppose to hit Tampa more, we've been through CAT 4/5s and were ok... And she admitted two blocks down houses are under water... I can only shake my head... I fear there were many like this. Before it hit some FEMA person commented they were really concerned as the number of those who should be in shelters is really low based on the number who were in zones A/B.

Ok so idk the exact number for power cables but for fiber optic cable, the magic number to bury a line is $100,000 per mile. It gets very expensive very quickly.

Just heard that conditions are ripe for it to gain strength once it heads out and north... My BIL lives in up that way and now they are preparing. Thanks God not directly coastal but they have to move things in etc... and they have older trees, they have been meaning to get taken care of.. and visiting him was our WDW trip back-up!!!
I guess those concierge guests at the Contemporary get something to take home with them.

Some trees down at pop and port Orleans, water levels up e everywhere. Up to bottom of paddock bridge at Saratoga. Damage at contemporary. Water in some rooms from under doorways. Just a few things I’ve seen and heard about

We had our lines buried from the street to our house (in a subdivision) and it cost us nearly $10k from Duke (Indiana). It was ridiculous. But we were tired of trees losing limbs, hitting the line to our house and causing damage and I cannot get my ignorant neighbors to cut these trees down. After the last time when it tore the power cable partially loose and caused our furnace, two TV's (on surge protectors), a microwave and multiple lights to blow out in the house we decided to fork over the money for the line burial and a natural gas powered generator.

Disney can thank that "unfair Reedy Creek deal" for creating a situation where the utilities were built to sustain a hurricane.

What are you both talking about? You're comparing apples and oranges. There is a big difference in providing utility service to a highly planned development (Disney) versus a standard residential neighborhood.
In either case all applicable safety and installation standards are followed for the planning, installation, and service of transmission and distribution equipment.
I blame this on the media doing its best to sensationalize the horror of the hurricane hitting Tampa. Gotta make it a story so that people will keep watching instead of taking proper precautions.
On the other hand, I live on the Gulf Coast of MS and understand her reasoning as well. Zeta was a storm that we rode out and it was stronger than we ever anticipated - but we've been through worse.
