Any tax increase or new tax here is extremely unpopular from all sides. Just the possibility of that, no matter how outlandish or absurd, is enough to kill a political career here. And the last thing politicians want is to get a real job.

They are sanctioning Disney the same way the UK government did against Chelsea football club or banks. Its a normal process and remember no company is bigger than a government.

it's not about being "bigger" it's about being independent. I can't speak to the UK, I'm not a citizen but no, here in the US government can't just "sanction" private businesses because they don't like what they say or who they support.

The enabling legislation has a process for annexation of land but it isn’t automatic. You’d have to review the maps to see if they have annexed any land recently. I don’t think they have since it’s a bit of a touchy subject but I’m not sure.

The US is able to sanction and is currently sanction a whole long list of people and entities. It is not though in response to speech.

The current arrangement also includes Reedy Creek Solid Waste division which includes all the multi ton daily garbage locations pick up, repairs, improvements /recycling efforts 24/7 all around WDW. Good luck for Orange County third party to handle that huge role if that ever happens. Fellow guests may be getting a whiff of a scent not too pleasant among a few things during their expensive vacation. I heard those big rats were out in full force when NYC garbage was piling up on the local streets. Be careful what one wishes for if Reedy Creek is out of the picture.

Trash pickup as a paid private service is a common setup almost everywhere. The key is where the companies are allowed to dispose. So really nothing would have to change here.

So unfairly target one particular business with an extra tax with the goal being to hurt their business because of a stated political opinion even though the Constitution protects such speech? You're honestly okay with that?

A special tax district that just modified sales tax (to pay for infrastructure capital improvements etc) could be setup to just pass costs directly to consumers - not job providers.

I think most of those purchases were offsets for the land management stuff.. so maybe not a real need/purpose to annex them

And how exactly would anyone justify applying that special tax to on WDW but not Universal, Sea World, or any other tourist attraction? There's no loophole that would allow legislators to punish Disney for exercising its First Amendment rights and I'm honestly stunned that there is anyone posting here that would support doing so even in a roundabout "if we make this complicated enough we might get away with plausible deniability" kind of way. It's basically saying that you're okay with the First Amendment only applying to people who agree with whoever happens to be in power at that given moment. There are plenty of places people could go where free speech is applied that way, but the United States isn't one of them - and I'm not sure anyone suggesting ways for the government to punish Disney would ever actually be happy living in any of the places where such punishment occurs.
