IMO this is another step to help.
I’ll give this 10 minutes before the “ that’s not nearly enough”, “who’s going to pay for this” and “ it really won’t help” posts to sta
Help what?

At this point everyone is going to get exposed eventually to Omicron and delivering n95 masks in late January will be past the peak. This should have been planned for a long time ago and not after the barn doors were let open. If these were all made available in November and replenished frequently so everyone can use a new one daily, yes we would have limited the pressure on hospitals. At this point, this is too little too late.

The silver lining is that people can stock up before the next variant wave. Most places are already past the Omicron peak. By the end of January it is likely that most are almost done with the Omicron wave. By mid February NY, NJ, FL and the other states that started around the same time should be back to pre-Omicron daily cases.

Three masks per person max is not much of a stockpile as they are disposable and should not be reused. They need a lot more every week if they want people to build a useful stockpile.

It still helps and it is NOT too late, that shows a fundamental misunderstanding on how to keep our population safe from a virus that mutates. I am glad we didn't have that attitude with Polio or WW2, both we were losing badly at one point.

So under this thought we do nothing? So what happens when next week the next Covid mutation kills us ten times faster? Then we need start the mask and vaccination machine again? We need start getting people used to wearing N95 again? Then try to convince everyone yet again we need vaccinations and N95's? NO this is an ongoing battle until the experts say we have won or we have a vaccine regimen that stops 1700 people a day dying. Something done is always better than nothing done, we do not give up.

The masks and vaccination habits the Fed Gov are trying to get us to adhere to are just as much for the next mutation than what has already or is happening now.

The too little too late that even some experts talk about is ridiculous and for the most part taken out of context,. We need get everyone in the habits and have the equipment available in our hands NOW for the next wave. There is uncertainty, and getting ready and staying prepared can't harm anyone, being unprepared and going back to old ways because we lost one battle can end up killing even more millions.

New COVID-19 testing location has opened at the Maingate Complex -

“The temporary testing site will be located in the Maingate Complex at 3020 Maingate Lane in Kissimmee, off U.S. 192 just west of Interstate 4.

The site will offer free rapid antigen and PCR testing seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To get a test here, you must schedule an appointment with Northshore Clinical Labs on its website.”

Thanks, who knows I may need it next month. I am boostered up and so far haven't gotten Covid from my daughter or her boyfriend which to my mind prove the N95 work. So far so good with me testing negative and she is already testing negative., so I how we are out fo the woods in this house.

Traveling on a plane and then a fun filled month at Disney where the employees apparently don't even need be vaccinated now(that really irks me), I may get it, who knows. At least this place is only a 12 min drive for testing.

What makes you think the manufacturer's can produce unlimited masks to be given away? YoOu might want a "stockpile" for yourself but then we are back to the TP thing.

They do not work as well as against previous strains, but they do still work. Particularly high against hospitalization, but still a god ratio vs symptomatic disease at all.
Why do people keep saying mRNA are not effective agsint Omicron, when they are as good as it gets for right now.

This study I believe is only SEVEN DAYS OLD so believe that mRNA does nothing against Omicron and the people that think that can argue with the scientific studies if they want, it's silly. I have to go with the experts, not someone on a newscast. This was something I pointed out to dad a couple days ago when he said the same thing to me about mRNA not working against Omicron. I mean yeah a targeted Vaccine would be better and lab results are lab results, still it's the best information we have so far:

  • A recent study shows that two doses of mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) or one dose of viral vector (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccines were insufficient to produce adequate immunity to a lab-created Omicron variant or pseudovirus.
  • The Omicron pseudovirus infected cells at a higher rate than other pseudovirus variants.
  • The results demonstrated a booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine provided the best immune protection from the Omicron pseudovirus.

I don't think there will be an unending supply for free from the manufacturers. I do not plan on stockpiling any masks.

Vaccines don't block viruses. They're not brick walls.

They just provide your body with the training to fight severe illness.

Saying that, Pfizer expects an omicron specific vaccine by March, and Moderna's not far behind.
Prior to COVID-19, when has this ever been said about a vaccine? When kids get vaccinated, does the pediatrician say, "this is to make sure they don't get a severe case of measles?"

I'm having trouble finding the quotes from Dr. Salk about protecting people from severe cases of Polio.

We are 8 days post WDW/Universal trip and have stayed healthy (vaxxed and boostered). My friend and her family who were all vaccinated but not boosted (and didn't go to Disney) are all recovering from Covid. My friend got very sick and went to the ER yesterday (although was not admitted).

Anecdotal of course, but consistent with the boosters making a big difference.

Well, I guess I should say my friend and her husband both were boostered, just too late since they came down with symptoms one day post booster.

This has always been said about the Flu vaccine. Never heard anyone say that the Flu vaccine will 100% prevent infection.

This is also one of the classic anti-vaxer talking points. "They changed the definition of vaccine since this one doesn't prevent infection".
