It's not being called the grand opening on May 2nd. It's referred to as the Media Preview.

Correct, media preview and grand opening are NOT the same thing. Right now WDI is still walking the track and the cast have not taken over for training so soft openings will IMO not be happening anytime this week or next. Not 100% sure but almost positive.

Attractions CMs are supposed to start reporting to 7D around the middle to end of this week. I don't know if that means there will be actual riders any time soon, or if it is just 100% training, but by next weekend, most should be on their 7D shifts.

Two sections of track had to have adjustments made to enhance the ride experience.. 3rd shift work (Monday AM) will begin removing the remaining construction walls and debris.

This is great news. Now hopefully the fast passes will be coming out shortly after.

Fastpasses won't come into play until an "official" opening, not during soft opening. Probably May 2 or 3 at the earliest. It's entirely possible that there may be a period of the ride being open officially but not having FP+ active -- I think Little Mermaid had at least a few days of opening without FP being enabled (though that was in the paper FP days).

It will not be open for guests on April 22nd. Cast might be scheduled that day but won't be related to a soft opening experience.

Over on the Spirited thread, there are references to SDMT possibly not even being open until "summer" instead of "spring." Not sure where that came from as it seemed like the source references were a bit vague. I guess we'll know when they WDW decides to announce it... lol

Oh definitely. Wasn't trying to discount them at all... it's just interesting to me that, as close as we appear to be getting to soft openings and the media preview, there's still such a wide window of rumors and other theories out there. It makes me wonder if some of that is being used to help generate hype maybe?

OK here are two things I found searching through Instagram. 1st is a nice clear picture of the Sign. 2nd is post that states that the people in the picture are cast members in training for the ride. @Bolt , so you haven't heard anything about a delay as to the the opening for 7DMT being more towards end of spring/early summer?
