Team Millennium Force Presents....
The Batman
An exhilarating wing coaster designed by roller coaster manufacturer Intamin, this new addition to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will not only provide much needed support after the opening of 2016's The Joker, but will also act as the catalyst for the complete re-theme of the entire land to the DC Universe.
Backstory
Originally in July 2013, with the announcement of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Six Flags wanted to capitalize on the two paramount heroes clashing with the opening of a new Batman coaster to compliment the new Superman: Ultimate Flight coaster that was to open in 2014. The coaster was to be called "The Dark Knight" and rise to 150 feet. At the time though, Six Flags didn't have the funds for such an extensive coaster, and opted to go for a re-theme of Roar to The Joker with Rockey Mountain Construction.
In 2016, after the monumental success of The Joker, plans for a Batman themed coaster were brought back on the table, however this time, however loosely revised and planned around the well-received new iteration of Batman, and to correlate with the title of the upcoming solo Batman film, was re-named just....
"The Batman"
The Batman - Coaster Design
Plans were brought back onto the table and kept pretty much the same. Intamin had great success with their new wing coaster design with 2012's SkyRush in Hershey Park, PA, the same ride system that will be implemented here.
The coaster vehicles will seat 4 across for 8 rows, with the exciting effect being that the two "winged" seats will be sitting off the track, providing an incredible effect of pure flight and g-forces on turns and ascents.
The coaster design won the 2012 Brass Ring Award for Best New Product

Coaster Location
Key:
Black - The Batman Coaster Path
Tan - Batcave Queue
Dark Red - Thomas and Martha Wayne Memorial Bridge
The location of The Batman will take the place of the go-kart track. The wing coaster will then fly around the DC Universe land, rising to a peak of 150 feet in the air and then soaring through and in-between the other DC attractions in the area, notably Superman: Ultimate Flight, as if you are "battling" and "interacting" with the other DC Characters.
The Batman - Queue
From Gotham city and a debilitated Wayne Manor you enter a small mountainous facility that looks like it's hiding something. You walk inside to hear shop metal grinding and wrenches twisting to find you're in the Batcave itself. You see newspapers on the wall of villanous foes Batman has taken down over the years, and articles wondering if Batman is a hero or villain himself
You then approach the loading area where you board.
Coaster Blueprint and Ride Description
Once you are seated, the ride begins with a modest climb to the top of the 150 ft peak overlooking the rest of the DC Universe and Discovery Kingdom itself. You race down a 81 degree drop and soar up yet again to a height of 110 ft before diving down as you zoom around and in-between The Joker and The Flash.
All while you are flying around the DC Universe, the bass dropping tones of Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL's Batman score are playing along with you as speakers were installed in this winged coaster to make the experience much more epic.
You soar around swooping 60 degree turns before coming face to face with Superman: Ultimate Flight. You do a barrel roll and spin around the coaster, almost touching its edges before entering a few more curves and coming back to the station.
The coaster lasts for around 1 minute and 15 seconds and you must be 48 inches tall to ride.

Expanded DC Universe
With the addition of a second DC themed coaster to the park's lineup on the east side of the park with the opening of The Joker, we thought it'd be a perfect time to introduce Batman into the mix and bring all the properties together.
Oddly enough, the character that will really tie the land and surrounding areas into each other is Aquaman. The king of Atlantis will make a perfect transitioning point with Ocean Discovery as the walkway into the DC area. A tide pool similar to the one at the entrance to The Living Seas and will mark the entry point. Carved into the rock will be "DC Universe"
Walking into DC universe, straight ahead guests can access The Flash and The Joker, with Superman: Ultimate Flight located past Joker's entrance to the left. The rocks and tidepools will surround the newly rethemed "Aquaman's Tsunami Soaker".
The cartoon pelican who is the current mascot of the ride will be replaced by a stately light house in the center. Aquaman's likeness will be added to the attraction's main sign in classic comic book, non-Jason Mamoa style.
Between The Flash and the main lift hill and drop of The Joker will be the Thomas Wayne Memorial Bridge. This walkway will extend over the park's main entrance just past the metal detectors and will let out in an area right between Sky Screamer and the Cobra family coaster, in the same area as popular rides such as Kong, Daredevil, and Medusa.
This bridge will effectively connect the two most populated areas of the park together and solve the problem of the main E ticket coasters being on complete opposite ends of each other. Plus the addition of the bridge along with the Joker drop and The Flash launching over the entrance will make for a memorable and distinct first impression upon arriving at the park.
Throughout the area there will be vague allusions to the three different cities of Gotham, Metropolis, and Central City. Carnival games just past The Flash will be transitioned into the Central City Grill, a counter service eatery serving up barbeque "in a flash!". This will serve the function of having a main dining option in the new area and represent Flash's home turf.
The areas around The Joker and The Batman will obviously take on the look of Gotham City with walkways themed in a similar style to the queue of Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain with Batman's queue and surrounding area being themed to Gotham City Park and The Joker's surrounding area being themed to Crime Alley.
Finally, the surrounding area of Superman will be more fully refined into a DC theme. A facade of LexCorp Tower will be constructed to the left of Superman's queue while The Daily Planet giftshop will be expanded into a large DC themed superstore that Superman conveniently exits right into. Be sure to stop by Clark Kent's Photo Booth to get your Superman: Ultimate Flight souvenir photo!
Conclusion
Our goal for this challenge was to provide a coaster that not only offered exhilarating thrills, but also served a purpose. Many Six Flags type coasters are just added to provide another ride, however The Batman connects an entire land together and its presence fleshed out and rethemed the entire surrounding land to provide guests of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom an entire DC Universe.
Thank you for reading our presentation!
It was a short trip, but life got in the way. I'd rather have a healthy life than win an Imagineering Comp in any case. Best of luck to the elite eight.
Are we gonna get a new challenge soon?
