The Road Trip is the newest Imagineering Competition on the Imagineer thread. In the contest, competitors will embark on a road trip across our great nation (America for all you foreigners out there) and compete in challenges set in our country's best theme and amusement parks.

What Makes This So Different Than Other Imagineering Competitions?

The Road Trip will be the first Imagineering Competition to have challenges on and mainly focus on non Disney or Universal parks. Challenges, instead of typical Disney World, will be found everywhere from Sea World Orlando to Holiday World in rural Indiana (Kudos to you if you have heard of this one!).

At the beginning of the competition, 12 people will be split into three "travel groups" of 4 people, led by a host-chosen team captain, based on prior Imagineering success.

Elimination occurs when I oust one or two people on the losing team or teams who I feel like just aren't cutting enough slack. Activity and production are crucial in this competition.

When 7 people remain, all competitors merge and fight for themselves. The bottom one or two competitors in a challenge are instantaneously eliminated.

Along the way, there will be optional bonus challenges (similar to the Veto Challenges in the Sole Imagineer). Whoever wins those challenges receives benefits and power-ups

At the end of the competition, when two competitors remain, a jury, made of the bottom 6 of the Top 8 and myself, will vote on the winner of The Road Trip.

Basic Rules:

- Please abide by the standard site rules.
- I would prefer that there isn't any drama here. It only serves as an annoyance to everyone involved.
- Please don't be involved in strategy. This is a friendly, "best Imagineer wins" competition, not Survivor ;).

For my replacement I'd like to expand the theme of London/ UK, but instead of another Harry Potter expansion I'd like to use a Universal Studios classic:

Though the re-make of this movie hasn't been completely confirmed, I think people can still easily relate to the old movie and that it deserves some more presence in the parks. Replacing the Fear Factor Live theatre will be an all new attraction based on the classical Universal horror movie, An American Wolf in London. This new attraction will be an indoor ride similar to the Gerstlauer Bobsled Coaster, which is well-known for its' single cars and sharp turns similar to the ones of a Wild Mouse attraction. Although these attractions are usually badly themed because of the tracks, this time Universal will find a way to hide the tracks by lights and props. The attraction will be called The Return of the Wolf and will open in 2019 as preparation for Universal Studios Orlando's 20th anniversary
From the facades of Picadilly Circus we move to a more rural British village. This transition will be made clear by trees and bushes which change with the large London buildings to the smaller town buildings. Guests will find themselves on the small square from the movie. In the middle of the road will be the large angel statue. The entrance to the attraction will be The Slaughtered Lamb pub. This is is where the large queue for this new exciting e-ticket starts. Inside the pub guests will pass by a pepper's ghost projections of villagers and the pub owner who tell guests the story of the beast under the full moon. They will also offer some sage advice: Stay on the road, avoid the moors and beware of the full moon. Playing in the background is the 1934 ballad "Blue Moon". The pub will be decorated with dart boards, chess boards, a portrait of the queen of England and a mysterious pentacle scratched on the pub wall between flickering candles to serve as both a shrine and a warning of things to come.
The queue then moves outside the pub and its supposed to look like the moors at night. The full moon shines through the tree twigs. Guests will wind along trees and bushes while sounds of creatures in the night create a mysterious and almost eerie atmosphere. After a while guests will find themselves at the station. Here guests will be asked to board vehicles themed to British cars( with working lights who will go on and off throughout the ride). The vehicles will seat 6 people each. The vehicles will start moving slowly through the woods around a series of turns before ascending a 12-metre chain lift hill. The ascend will be themed to a rocky hill. Guests will look straight forward and see the full moon and a mysterious shadow in front of it. You hear someone screaming telling us to leave quickly. The human shape changes into a wolf like shape howling and then growling.
Our vehicles move down quickly in a spiraling turn to the right. The ride will become a fast race through the woods while shadows, projections and audio animatronics of the werewolf who tries to catch his prey( the guests). The vehicles will then go through a navigated turnaround before the Wild Mouse like turns appear. The lights of the vehicles sometimes reveal the shadow of the werewolf. We escape the woods and find ourselves in London. Here vehicles will race past monuments like the House of Parliament and Buckingham palace while avoiding the busy traffic of London and the police agents trying to catch the monster. There will be a lot of screens showing London inhabitants fleeing and the whole mayhem of the traffic of London. There will also be real life props like double-decker buses and more. The audio animatronic wolf will appear from time to time trying to get closer and closer.
The vehicle then drives into an alley where it stops. The lights of the car turn on and an audio animatronic werewolf is revealed. He will walk towards the vehicle while growling similar to the Carnotaurus in Dinosaur at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Right before he wants to jump at us, the vehicle drives backwards similar to Expedition Everest. After a few more thrills we encounter the werewolf for the last time where we shake him off after a car crashes into him. The police thanks the guests for helping them to save the inhabitants of London. The vehicles slowly move back into the woods to a second station where guests are asked to exit the ride. The 1961 Doo-wop version of Blue Moon will play as you exit. At the exit of the ride will be a shop called the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.
I chose to make the human version of the werewolf unknown, because I didn't want it to be David from the movie who dies in the movie. The ride is supposed to be a sequel of the movie. This new attraction would be another great e-ticket in a line-up after King Kong, Fast and the Furious and maybe even more.

While walking past the London facade that hides the streets of Diagon Alley, an expansion of the London waterfront facade will be built with a nondescript identity. The buildings will blend in with a British architectural model, but nothing to indicate that it is part of a magical world. However, guests will see others walking towards certain sections of the facade, and wondering where those guests are going

Along the facade there are several telephone booths and also a restroom, which seem to transport guests through the building. You wonder over to the telephone booth and wham! You enter a aparating apparatus and find yourself right at the hub of the wizarding world - the Ministry of Magic.

Bringing a unique spin to a Universal mini-land, this entire land will be completely enclosed, which offers many benefits most notably temperature regulation from the brutal Florida heat, as guests can relax in an indoor, air-conditioned facility.

As you continue to walk past the Flu Powder fireplaces that glow green whenever someone apparates away, you walk towards the main lobby atrium.

The lobby atrium opens up a memorizing visual aesthetic as you look up and see dozens of floors of aurors at work thanks to incredible forced perspective. You are then given the opportunity to explore several aspects of the wizarding world. From the atrium you can travel to the E-ticket attraction, explore the walk-through options, or dine/shop in the pavilion.

Harry Potter and the Department of Mysteries

On this harrowing adventure, you join Harry and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix in an attempt to find a clue to unlocking Voldemort's intentions in the Department of Mysteries before it falls into the hands of the Death Eaters. You wind around in the queue past the hearing room, the auror's lounge, and then take a turn towards the elevator banks.

This attraction will be a combination of advanced Tower of Terror elevator technology, as well as trackless dark ride technology to create a one of a kind ride experience. From the films, it always looked like fun to ride one of the out of control elevators in the Ministry of Magic. It goes up, down, left, right, pretty much all over the place. In this attraction, you will board the elevators (your ride vehicles) and travel to the Department of Mysteries.

The elevators seat 12 guests (3 rows of 4) and they take off backwards to begin the journey. After dropping two floors, rising one floor, and moving to the right at a quick clip, you enter the Department of Mysteries.

The neat part about this aspect of the ride is your ride vehicle leaves the elevator shaft and it's shown that the elevator was just the shell for your trackless dark ride vehicle! It travels through the halls of the Department of Mysteries when all of a sudden, Death Eaters arrive and your vehicle twists and turns as Dumbledore's Army battles the Death Eaters all around you. A mixture of physical sets (such as the Department of Mysteries itself) and screens are used in this ride experience.

The attraction ends with the Order of the Phoenix swooping in along with Dumbledore and Voldemort as you witness the epic battle unfold between the two greatest wizards of the age in the atrium of the Ministry of Magic. As your ride vehicle makes its escape back to the elevator shaft, you ascend back up to the load/unload area and head towards the exit.

Walk-Through: Magic is Might
See this history of magic exhibit where it explores the timeline of wizards and witches of London, and get a look inside the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as the exhibit depicts the events that occurred and might occur in that film trilogy.

Shopping:
Shop for a wide variety of Harry Potter Ministry of Magic merchandise towards the exit/entrance of the pavilion.

Dining:

As you exit the Ministry of Magic pavilion on the London streets there are more stereotypical London based areas, however still shown in the Harry Potter film franchise.

A small quick service restaurant "Hallow Cafe" is a replica of the cafe featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1, serving fish and chips along with other British quick-service food options

Conclusion
The Ministry of Magic will complete the trilogy of Harry Potter in Universal. It will flesh out the London waterfront area, and replace "Fear Factor Live" with a more exhilarating and crowd-pleasing attraction. Harry Potter is what Universal does best. Even non-Universal fans flock in droves to visit these incredibly detailed lands and areas (myself included). I'm not too big of a Universal fan, but Harry Potter got me to the parks and it was an incredible experience. The Ministry of Magic will keep me there even longer by offering another unique location from the films and movies, with another amazing Universal Creative attraction design, and a themed area for all-ages.

It's an interesting dynamic, though I would be careful with too many challenges.

Keep in mind that most people in this comp are also in TSI, or are working on individual threads as well. What happens if only one person has the time to do these side challenges, and they keep getting these power ups?

I also think having an advantage and disadvantage is too powerful...I'd make it either/or.

It's a good idea, makes it interesting, we'll see how it plays out this round...I would lean towards the reward coming from winning the actual team challenge itself, that way all the emphasis is put on working as a team to win each round.

Like space said, maybe have the winner choose to have a disadvantage or an advantage, and not know what either would be. Then, once they pick, it'll be revealed what either is. I don't think people should get to pick the disadvantages, you should just think of them.

I think I'll have the either/or thing along with having the rewards be after team challenges, as well as side challenges post-merge.
