Pre-Trip Leaving our new baby girl behind...

Hello everyone! I recently finished my TR for our December trip of 2014 and it was such a blast to write it and interact with everybody who participated that Ive decided to write my first Pre-Trip Report! We are also bursting with anticipation so writing a Pre TR just may help us stay calm, but I doubt it.

(For anyone who would like to read my last report, here is a link, http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/our-bwv-holiday-tr.899325/ )

So whats up with this thread title? Is there a bun in the oven? Will we soon be hearing the pitter patter of little feet? Is the stork circling our neighborhood..... Do we have a baby on the way?????? Ummmmm.....no, haha. So dont worry, this trip will feature even more booze and food than our December trip.

We are however bringing home our new baby girl puppy in 7 weeks! We recently decided to add a new member to our private Animal Kingdom, a beautiful female Dutch Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix. We are VERY VERY excited as this particular breed is absolutely AMAZING. I have a friend who is a professional trainer for K9 and sporting dogs and we are going for the full monty with her training! So while we are excited, the timing of our trip will mean leaving her with my parents only a few weeks after bringing her home. She will be in excellent hands but we will be sad to leave her. The silver lining is that we wont get sad on the last day of our trip because we know we will be going home to our new pup. For now, we are compiling a long list of possible names and most are based on Game of Thrones and/or Disney. The front runners as of now are, Sansa, Daeneryus and Boma.

We have a 14 year old american bull terrier (aka pitbull, but I dont like that term). His name is Brolly and he is the most gentle and sweet, but extremely protective dog. My work occasionally has me out late for certain events and I dont return home until 4 or 5 am some nights. I have never worried about my wife being home alone because he is there with her. His hearing has recently started to go and he often gets tired early in the day. He has done an amazing job being a protector of the home but its time for him to enjoy his golden years and oversee the training of our new puppy. He is still very active and we know he will be excited to have a new playmate to show the ropes too. Here is a quick rundown of our private Animal Kingdom:

B_snow.jpg
Brolly

As big and tough as Brolly is, the matriarch of the house is our eldest cat, Chloe. My wife allows her to get away with any and everything.
883.jpg

Making a cameo in the background is the baby of the house, Ruxin. Ya, we let them on the counter but we keep the Lysol wipes handy and constantly wipe it down so dont freak out. ALL of our animals eat a raw diet (yes, raw uncooked chicken and meat with bones) which among other benefits really helps with shedding.

The exotic animal section of our home features our two lovely parrots, Caesar and Cappy:

20150510_144900.jpg

Caesar is a Double Yellow Headed Amazon and he is 31 years old and yes he talks, but he has an uncanny laugh that sounds very human. My Mom got him in Mexico when I was very young. She would often yell for my father if he was outside or in the other room and to this day Caesar still mimics her and will yell out, "PAUL!!!!"

20150718_161007.jpg

Cappy is a Bare Eyed Cockatoo. He is appx 20 years old. We rescued him and the rescue shelter wasnt sure of his exact age. He is EXTREMELY talkative and has a vocabulary of about 20 words and can say full sentences and he is still learning new stuff. He is also very intelligent. We dont even keep his cage door shut because he just picks the lock anyway. His latest thing is making zombie noises when we watch The Walking Dead. If a Zombie moans or grunts, he chimes right in and is very good at zombie impersonations. It is a bit creepy though when he does it for no reason at all in the middle of the night. He also does the old Budweiser commercial with the frogs saying "Whats Up" over and over in different tones. He is very funny and we are soooo glad we brought him into our home.

The reason I bring up our animals is because our Disney trips often rely on having our family help out with our animals while we are gone. We are blessed to have such wonderful family members who help care for our furry family while we are gone. Ok, so now that your familiar with our animals, maybe I can get back to actually talking about our Disney trip.

So, for those of who you read my last report, you may remember that I surprised my wife on our last day by upgrading our tickets to AP's and we started planning a trip for the 2015 Food and Wine Festival. Well here we are several (long) months later and so far we have 5 days booked at Yacht Club (our favorite resort) for late October and we are going to add 2-3 additional days but havent decided if we want AKL or perhaps try something new like Port Orleans Riverside to scratch it off our list of resorts we havent stayed at. Either way, we will start with the 3 days at AKL or POR and then hop over to YC for the final 5 days and begin our shameless free fall into more food and booze than the human body should be allowed to consume.

Our trip will coincide with the anniversary of the day I proposed at WDW many moons ago in front of Cinderella Castle. I want to recreate the entire day as much as possible. It was a fairly laid back day with the exception of my nervousness going into the MK for the proposal but the CM's at MK were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and they helped me pull off a great surprise with the proposal. I totally thought she knew what was going on, but the CM's pulled out all the stops and she never saw it coming. My original plan had to be aborted last minute due to a refurb at the HM and I was in panic mode at the concierge desk at GF trying to figure out what to do, but the wonderful ladies there sat me down and we went over options and came up with a great idea that worked out better than I could have ever imagined. I'll get to that story later with the details of recreating the day. Its a great story with some really crazy twists and turns of events unfolding and of course,...me drinking a little too much which made a particular incident really funny.

The full cast of this trip is still somewhat up in the air. My sister and her boys have AP's as well and they are trying to squeeze in a few days to join us. Her sons (my nephews) are growing up so fast and I am hoping to get a few more Disney trips in with them before they hit that phase where they are too cool for Disney. I always have a blast with these two boys and my sister.

And if they join us, my bothers youngest son, who is 2, may come along as well. Here is a pic of him with my wife, who will obviously be there too.

My wife and I have not yet been Disney with our youngest nephew so it will be a real treat to enjoy some time with him and see the amazement in his eyes, not only of the parks, but of his stumbling drunken Uncle trying to stay upright at the end of the day.

Hopefully they will all join us and the trip will be even more fun! My wife and I have a much slower park touring pace than they do so whenever we all go we together we split up on certain days for awhile and meet back up later in the day for lunch or diner. Poly was always their favorite resort but They have recently fallen in love with the Boardwalk Resorts so if they join us, they will most likely book YC or BC and be close to us.

As far as anything specific goes, we have only made one ADR so far and that is for Biergarten on the day we check in at YC which will technically be day 4 of the trip. Seems a bit like overkill on food seeing how Food and Wine will be happening but we love our Biergarten and as I mentioned earlier, we will have no shame and we will eat until we cant eat anymore, then we will probly drink and eat some more.

I get the feeling we will book AKL for our first 3 days simply because we love it there and it will allow us to start the trip off nice and easy. We especially love the Victoria Falls Lounge at AKL. Its not themed too heavy in any way, but it is a very relaxing spot to have a drink and appetizers with great ambiance and the smells wafting up fro Boma and Jiko dont hurt either. Its usually pretty easy to get a spot at Boma so if we decide to hit it up it will be a "day of" decision. We love the Mara as well. The food isnt anything to write home about but my wife and I both agree they have the best chicken tenders on property. Im sure they are prepared the exact same as everywhere else, but for some reason we like them there the best... And did I mention Zebra Domes?!!!! Yummmmm!!!

Well, thats it for today. Im gonna dig through my old memory cards and find some photos of our trip when I proposed to her and I will get more into the details of recreating that day and post it tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for reading! Have a great Saturday everybody!

Ok, so I never got around to updating the idea of recreating the day I proposed. Thats why Cali Grill is a posibility instead MNSSHP. But now that Chef Mickeys is on the table, we have another option! The picture of my dad, nephew and me from the last post is from the night I did the second proposal at Chef Mickeys. I never gave the details of that night, which was a complete blast and part of the reason Im entertaining the idea of recreating that event instead of Cali Grill. Heres what happened that day:

Since her Mom expressed her desire to see the proposal, then an a proposal she shall see. Those of you who read the story know that I couldnt hold out and wound up proposing before her Mom arrived in Orlando. So we planned a second proposal just for her, and to this day have never told her about the first one she missed. Trust me,its best for everybody this way, lol. So we had a proposal set up for Chef Mickeys when the whole family would be having diner (her family and mine were all there). We planned it so Mickey would ask her to dance and would take her away from the table and all the characters would come over to join in. Mickey would spin her around which was my queue to go down on one knee. The plan was set and we had our ADR for 8 pm for the entire family. But before we get to that I must start earlier in the day.

Since the whole family would be together for diner and the kids all wanted to go to different parks that day, we decided to all split up and meet back before diner. So my sister and mother took her kids to HS and my wife, her mother, and cousins went to AK. My Dad and brother and I all went to Epcot. We decided it would be a guys day and would celebrate the upcoming proposal. It started off normal with us walking around Epcot hitting a ride here and there and occasionally havin a snack and a drink. As the afternoon went on we really started to celebrate. We started hitting the bars and carts around WS for specialty beers. We started at a respectable pace but by early evening we were "turnt up" as the kids would say (it means getting wild, and Im sure @fractal could ask his daughters for a proper translation;)) . We decided to head out around 6 pm and my dad was heading to his room (BC if I recall) and my brother and I headed to my resort, GF.

So as my brother and I are stumbling up to the room laughing about how we over did it on the booze, he spots my wife and her family at the other end of the lobby. She was giving them a tour of the resort. We tried to blend in and not be seen but of course they spotted like hawks looking for a field mouse. Perhaps our hiding skills were affected by all the booze in our systems and we really didnt do a good job blending in. Either way, they were walking towards us waving and I knew I needed to try my best to appear sober. We had a quick hello with them and I managed to fake it long enough to fool them (not my wife though as she knows me too well and gave me a very stern look, haha). So we get to the room and Ive got about 40 minute to sober up, which wasnt gonna happen! FYI, I wasnt sloppy fall down drunk or anything like that, I had just had a few too many but was still managing. So I have some coffee which helped and took a quick shower which helped a little more. I get dressed and we jump on the monorail. I was still tipsy but doing much much better by now.

So we arrive at Contemporary and see the family all waiting. My dad comes over (still tipsy as well) and is asking how we are doing and we all have a good laugh about over doing it at Epcot. My wifes mom comes over and asks me how Im doing and if Im nervous. She then leads me over to the Outer Rim Bar where there are 2 huge glasses of beer waiting at the bar. She tells me she ordered us each a celebratory drink! My brother sees all this and I see him cracking up on the side. Obviousy I cant say no, so we sit down and have a nice time with our beers.

The beer definitely set me back, but I was all engines go and decided the booze would help me play it up a bit for all the people that would be watching! The time comes and I see Mickey approach her and hold his hand out. I didnt tell her all the details of how it would happen that way her reaction would be somewhat genuine, but she knew what was going to happen. She dances with Mickey, all the other characters make their way over, everybody in restaurant is looking our way to see whats going on, and then Mickey makes his move and spins her around! I go down to one knee and when they turn around Ive got my arms stretched out and I loudly proclaim my love for her and ask for her hand. I feel like the booze did help as I was very animated with my movements and not nervous at all with the crowd of people watching. It was VERY FUN! Minnie was standing on my side and did a great job helping me out. My wife accepted, the crowd cheered and most importantly, my wifes mother was very happy!

A very sweet silver lining to the night was having my wifes Aunt there with us. On some of our first trips to Disney as a couple, my wifes aunt and uncle met us a few times because they lived two hours away and were Disney nuts too. They joined us for a few days on various trips and we have some very good memories of those times. Her Uncle was an amazing, kind, fun, and friendly man. He had passed away earlier that year and this was one of her aunts first trips back to Disney without him. I know it was hard for her, but she did it to be with us. I saw her crying and gave her a big hug. She told me she wasnt crying because she was sad, but because she knew that Uncle Dean was there with us and how excited he would be that we got engaged at Disney. Its hard to hold back the tears while writing this because it was a very nice moment we shared and I always had so much fun with her Uncle. On one of our last trips together with him we all rode up in the front of the monorail together and luckily I was filming it. My wife still has a hard time watching it but is glad that I filmed it (even thought at the time she was on me for having the camera out).

So the night went off without a hitch, I managed to make it through despite the extra beer I had to drink and we all had a great time!

this is a picture of the picture of the family after dinner.

Heres a short vid of us with Uncle Dean at Spaceship Earth.

Still waiting on my wife to find our photo album with the pics from both proposals. She is being lazy about doing it. Since our trip is coming up, it may make her wanna go through old photos. I will find a way to get them and post them.

Yea! You're back on your TR again! :joyfull: Funny, just the other day I was wondering how Akira was coming along. Love the latest photo of her--so cute!! Hopefully, she'll grow out of her nipping/grawing hobby soon. Having gone through the puppy stage with mine some years ago, everything is fair game with them-- he felt it was open season on table legs, chairs, paper, door frames, rugs, people . . .;) We found that sturdy chew toys were a good diversion and helped to channel some of that energy.

The additional details that you shared about the "second proposal" made me burst out laughing! :p Between this latest update on the proposal details, and the first segment you shared previous to that, I thought to myself that "real" life stories like yours are funnier than any written comedy script. :hilarious: (I also think your wife was a really good sport!)

Now, as for your reservations for October, my goodness, what an ordeal the reservations dept. put you through. I hope everything works out in your favor. I can't wait to read about all the new antics (oh, excuse me, I meant to say adventures . . . ;)) that you and your wife will have! :D

So here we are, less than 30 days out from our new travel dates. Our issue is that our puppy is still going through the "nipping and gnawing" phase of teething pains and just simply being young and we are hoping it will subside by the time we leave for our trip if we are forced to keep the new travel dates. My parents agreed to babysit her but we dont want to burden them with a puppy nipping their ankles all day. Even though our new days are just 2 weeks earlier, that 2 weeks could make a HUGE difference in her behavior being a little more calm. Time will tell. So as frustrating as the situation is, we are still excited about leaving soon for WDW and being there for F&W Festival! Worst case scenario we will just cut our trip to 4 or 5 days instead of 8 :(, but that may allow for a short Nov or Dec trip!:). We are considering the Best Friends Pet Care (the WDW kennel) as an option also. If anybody has any experience or knowledge we would LOVE to hear it.
Shortening up that trip may not be a bad thing if you are going to add another trip soon after. You won't be too down about leaving the first time since you will be back not too long after. Plus you would get to see the parks at the best 2 times of the year! And extended Illuminations holiday version! I wish we could have swung an October trip this year, but we extended our December trip instead, so I can't be too upset about that.

Ya, two trips in a short time span is always a good thing! It definitely makes the last day of a Disney trip better, knowing youll be back soon. How many days are you guys going for in December? Its such a great time to visit. My only complaint is that you hear the SAME Christmas music EVERYWHERE and it gets a bit repetitive. It would be nice if some of the normal background music played every now and then. Not a big deal though.

We are going for 6 nights total, 4 at BWV and 2 at POR. I saw where you were thinking about a possible POR stay. My wife loves it there and if you could walk to Epcot from POR, it would be her favorite resort. Haha it's funny you say that about the Christmas music, last year I was walking down the exit after getting off RnR and instead of hearing Aerosmith or any type of rock, I hear little drummer boy! I was like, what the...?

How many times have you stayed at YC? That is my #1 resort as well. My only gripe is having to walk my keister all the way across the resort to get to the marketplace. But getting to walk by Storm Along Bay on the way makes it worth it.

Care package arrived today! Ish just got real! Akira on guard duty for the MB's!
View attachment 110628

OMG--I laughed out loud over this! It's Akira on sentry duty with the magic bands! :hilarious: (And just look at those ears pointed up at attention!! :D ) She's more gorgeous with every picture you take of her. :)

Now, to contrast the above with Sunny the cat, it's too funny! That's precisely what we'd expect of normal cat behavior. :joyfull:

I think of Akira and Sunny as the ying and yang in your house. They'll keep each other in line! ;)

Major Update!!!!

After all the drama of having to switch travel dates, this afternoon I was able to rent a DVC studio at BCV for our trip and for dates that were more in line with our Anniversary of my proposal!!!! Big thanks to my brotha' from anotha' motha' @lostpro9het for all his help!

I was already excited but now it just increased 100 fold! Granted we are not at YC now, but thats fine. And hey, BCV are actually closer to International Gateway at Epcot so now I can get to the food and booze even faster!! My wife just called on her lunch beak and I gave her the good news and she was excited too! We're glad we will have a villa now as it will allow a bit more space. Time to replan our single ADR for Beirgarten...again, lol. Also glad the dates are later in the month as this will allow Akira a bit more time to get past her teething phase and hopefully not scare the crap out of my mom with her nipping. My Dad should be able to handle her though as he is very excited to have a new dog in the family.

Another cool thing that happened today....Akira received her own little care package with her Hoo Rag from our donation to Warrior Dog Foundation. She looks dashing, I must say!

Akirahoorag.jpg

For anybody curious, Warrior Dog Foundation is a non profit that provides training and housing to help rehabilitate K9's that are returning from duty and or need housing while theyre handlers are deployed. They are wonderful people and if you make a donation of $10 or more you get a Hoo Rag! They have lots of other cool gear for you and your dog. Check em out, you my find something you like!

Anyway, I also found out my sister booked a 1 BR villa at Wilderness Lodge for end of Sept and asked if Id like to join her and her boys. Oh the temptation! I may try and sneak down for 2 nights and join them. We shall see. If not, our trip is not far off.

So glad that @lostpro9het is at WDW and posting pics of beer too! Is it too early for me to crack one open and celebrate! Haha! And @BuddyThomas started a prequel TR to boot! Woo-hoo! If you havent checked out his TR's, I suggest you do it now because there is never a dull moment on his trips! @ScarletBegonias, @JENN SMITH and @Ciara are about to head to Orlando as well! So exciting! For anybody else who is reading along and is about to leave for WDW, let me know! I dont wanna leave anybody out!

Well, we had a big day with some GREAT surprises! Thanks for following along everyone and Ill be sure to post the exciting news of switching our single ADR! We are so excited that we may book Chef Mickeys and Cali Grill tonight so I will let you all know. From Akira and myself...Have a blessed and magical afternoon everyone!

Of all the cats, Akira has struck an amazing bond with Sunny.
Yeah, that's because cats are awesome!
