Pre-Trip Leaving our new baby girl behind...

Hello everyone! I recently finished my TR for our December trip of 2014 and it was such a blast to write it and interact with everybody who participated that Ive decided to write my first Pre-Trip Report! We are also bursting with anticipation so writing a Pre TR just may help us stay calm, but I doubt it.

(For anyone who would like to read my last report, here is a link, http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/our-bwv-holiday-tr.899325/ )

So whats up with this thread title? Is there a bun in the oven? Will we soon be hearing the pitter patter of little feet? Is the stork circling our neighborhood..... Do we have a baby on the way?????? Ummmmm.....no, haha. So dont worry, this trip will feature even more booze and food than our December trip.

We are however bringing home our new baby girl puppy in 7 weeks! We recently decided to add a new member to our private Animal Kingdom, a beautiful female Dutch Shepherd / Belgian Malinois mix. We are VERY VERY excited as this particular breed is absolutely AMAZING. I have a friend who is a professional trainer for K9 and sporting dogs and we are going for the full monty with her training! So while we are excited, the timing of our trip will mean leaving her with my parents only a few weeks after bringing her home. She will be in excellent hands but we will be sad to leave her. The silver lining is that we wont get sad on the last day of our trip because we know we will be going home to our new pup. For now, we are compiling a long list of possible names and most are based on Game of Thrones and/or Disney. The front runners as of now are, Sansa, Daeneryus and Boma.

We have a 14 year old american bull terrier (aka pitbull, but I dont like that term). His name is Brolly and he is the most gentle and sweet, but extremely protective dog. My work occasionally has me out late for certain events and I dont return home until 4 or 5 am some nights. I have never worried about my wife being home alone because he is there with her. His hearing has recently started to go and he often gets tired early in the day. He has done an amazing job being a protector of the home but its time for him to enjoy his golden years and oversee the training of our new puppy. He is still very active and we know he will be excited to have a new playmate to show the ropes too. Here is a quick rundown of our private Animal Kingdom:

B_snow.jpg
Brolly

As big and tough as Brolly is, the matriarch of the house is our eldest cat, Chloe. My wife allows her to get away with any and everything.
883.jpg

Making a cameo in the background is the baby of the house, Ruxin. Ya, we let them on the counter but we keep the Lysol wipes handy and constantly wipe it down so dont freak out. ALL of our animals eat a raw diet (yes, raw uncooked chicken and meat with bones) which among other benefits really helps with shedding.

The exotic animal section of our home features our two lovely parrots, Caesar and Cappy:

20150510_144900.jpg

Caesar is a Double Yellow Headed Amazon and he is 31 years old and yes he talks, but he has an uncanny laugh that sounds very human. My Mom got him in Mexico when I was very young. She would often yell for my father if he was outside or in the other room and to this day Caesar still mimics her and will yell out, "PAUL!!!!"

20150718_161007.jpg

Cappy is a Bare Eyed Cockatoo. He is appx 20 years old. We rescued him and the rescue shelter wasnt sure of his exact age. He is EXTREMELY talkative and has a vocabulary of about 20 words and can say full sentences and he is still learning new stuff. He is also very intelligent. We dont even keep his cage door shut because he just picks the lock anyway. His latest thing is making zombie noises when we watch The Walking Dead. If a Zombie moans or grunts, he chimes right in and is very good at zombie impersonations. It is a bit creepy though when he does it for no reason at all in the middle of the night. He also does the old Budweiser commercial with the frogs saying "Whats Up" over and over in different tones. He is very funny and we are soooo glad we brought him into our home.

The reason I bring up our animals is because our Disney trips often rely on having our family help out with our animals while we are gone. We are blessed to have such wonderful family members who help care for our furry family while we are gone. Ok, so now that your familiar with our animals, maybe I can get back to actually talking about our Disney trip.

So, for those of who you read my last report, you may remember that I surprised my wife on our last day by upgrading our tickets to AP's and we started planning a trip for the 2015 Food and Wine Festival. Well here we are several (long) months later and so far we have 5 days booked at Yacht Club (our favorite resort) for late October and we are going to add 2-3 additional days but havent decided if we want AKL or perhaps try something new like Port Orleans Riverside to scratch it off our list of resorts we havent stayed at. Either way, we will start with the 3 days at AKL or POR and then hop over to YC for the final 5 days and begin our shameless free fall into more food and booze than the human body should be allowed to consume.

Our trip will coincide with the anniversary of the day I proposed at WDW many moons ago in front of Cinderella Castle. I want to recreate the entire day as much as possible. It was a fairly laid back day with the exception of my nervousness going into the MK for the proposal but the CM's at MK were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and they helped me pull off a great surprise with the proposal. I totally thought she knew what was going on, but the CM's pulled out all the stops and she never saw it coming. My original plan had to be aborted last minute due to a refurb at the HM and I was in panic mode at the concierge desk at GF trying to figure out what to do, but the wonderful ladies there sat me down and we went over options and came up with a great idea that worked out better than I could have ever imagined. I'll get to that story later with the details of recreating the day. Its a great story with some really crazy twists and turns of events unfolding and of course,...me drinking a little too much which made a particular incident really funny.

The full cast of this trip is still somewhat up in the air. My sister and her boys have AP's as well and they are trying to squeeze in a few days to join us. Her sons (my nephews) are growing up so fast and I am hoping to get a few more Disney trips in with them before they hit that phase where they are too cool for Disney. I always have a blast with these two boys and my sister.

IMG_3611.JPG

Me with my two nephews

IMG_3610.JPG

And if they join us, my bothers youngest son, who is 2, may come along as well. Here is a pic of him with my wife, who will obviously be there too.

camchencrop.jpg

My wife and I have not yet been Disney with our youngest nephew so it will be a real treat to enjoy some time with him and see the amazement in his eyes, not only of the parks, but of his stumbling drunken Uncle trying to stay upright at the end of the day.

Hopefully they will all join us and the trip will be even more fun! My wife and I have a much slower park touring pace than they do so whenever we all go we together we split up on certain days for awhile and meet back up later in the day for lunch or diner. Poly was always their favorite resort but They have recently fallen in love with the Boardwalk Resorts so if they join us, they will most likely book YC or BC and be close to us.

As far as anything specific goes, we have only made one ADR so far and that is for Biergarten on the day we check in at YC which will technically be day 4 of the trip. Seems a bit like overkill on food seeing how Food and Wine will be happening but we love our Biergarten and as I mentioned earlier, we will have no shame and we will eat until we cant eat anymore, then we will probly drink and eat some more.

I get the feeling we will book AKL for our first 3 days simply because we love it there and it will allow us to start the trip off nice and easy. We especially love the Victoria Falls Lounge at AKL. Its not themed too heavy in any way, but it is a very relaxing spot to have a drink and appetizers with great ambiance and the smells wafting up fro Boma and Jiko dont hurt either. Its usually pretty easy to get a spot at Boma so if we decide to hit it up it will be a "day of" decision. We love the Mara as well. The food isnt anything to write home about but my wife and I both agree they have the best chicken tenders on property. Im sure they are prepared the exact same as everywhere else, but for some reason we like them there the best... And did I mention Zebra Domes?!!!! Yummmmm!!!

Well, thats it for today. Im gonna dig through my old memory cards and find some photos of our trip when I proposed to her and I will get more into the details of recreating that day and post it tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for reading! Have a great Saturday everybody!

Her ears are a bit funny right now. Its called "teepee" phase. Pretty common in most shepherd breeds as they grow. It corrects itself within a few months. Some people really freak out and think their dogs ears needs surgery or wont grow right. We love it and just enjoy taking pictures of her when they lean in.

She is currently running around tearing up the brown postal box that the magic bands came in. She is a nut.

Yes, but she's a cute nut! It's just like with kids - if they weren't so cute, we wouldn't love them so much! :D

Yah, ha ha ha . . . I noticed the ear, too!! :joyfull:

(I also really liked the brown, stone floor in that room, but I'm veering off the subject here! ;) )
I noticed that, too! I was thinking, looks like they have a very nice home. :hilarious:
Thank you for the lovely compliments! That picture is in the kitchen. We gutted the ENTIRE kitchen from ground to ceiling and my wife redesigned it all and chose all the colors, cabinets (which are real wood), flooring and appliances. I was not allowed to participate in the design process, lol. My only contribution was that I have a friend who gave us a great deal on the design of the stone floor and back splash and cutting and laying it all. I believe its called "versaille" pattern. He really saved us a bit. And oh ya, I got to write the check at the end!! yayo_O:rolleyes:

Well of course, nothing but the most exquisite estate for princess Akira!
She practically lives in the kitchen. Partially because the floor is always cool and of course she knows that her food is in the fridge. She is smart. She knows the sound of the fridge door opening and she will bring her food bowl in for me to feed her. It is hilarious. Here is a video of it (you hear me say "part 2" because it was the second video i posted on Instagram)

Oh, that video is precious!! What a nice way to start my Saturday morning here. :cat:

By the way, I think her developing ears are adorable. I'm familiar with dogs like shepherds, etc., that go through that phase. Tall ears on those types of dogs are their trademarks, and I always thought they were distinguished looking, especially as they grow into adult dogs.

Compliments to your wife for her decorating talent! I've seen that exact style of floor before in some high-end locations, and I always liked it. I'll bet with the redesign of your kitchen, the finished room must look beautiful.

Hello Everyone!

Time for a brief update!

Ive been having so much fun checking in on everybody elses TR's that Ive neglected my own, lol. Welcome back to reality, @lostpro9het ! @ScarletBegonias looks like she is having a blast with baby girl Harper and family! Just finished @fractal 's TR and they proved you cant still visit without planning it all out and hit 3 parks in one day, ride several E tickets (some twice) and even have a few meals and take plenty of pictures without feeling rushed! @draybook 's live TR is a blast (his always are) just wish he could learn photobucket or upload pics from his phone so we can see some photos!:banghead: , lol, jk...do your thing, playa! @Ciara has posted a few pics on IG and Im sure she will have a great TR upon her return! @BuddyThomas is cracking me up with his prequel TR as well:happy: And I didnt forget about you, @Tuvalu, my fellow ATL-ien! Looks like the parks are treating you well! Looking forward to your daily updates!

Ok, apologies for those I didnt mention, but dont worry, I will. Im still finishing so many TR's and dont wanna comment on em till I finish!

As far us, we are getting closer to our trip. About 3 weeks out! We are slowly..., well, who am I kidding, we are are glacially moving towards packing a few things to start it all off. My wife took a new position recently (same company) and has been working her butt off and she is in dire need of some R&R. Akira is doing great and getting bigger everyday. Her prey drive is really starting to kick in which has me a little concerned for her stay with my parents. Prey drive is very easy to mistake as aggression so as I explain it to my mother I watch a look of fear roll over her face, lol. Then she sees my hand with nicks and scratches from puppy bites all over it which only adds to her fear. I simply remind her that Akira is barely 12 weeks old and it still takes her 5 minutes to rip a toilet paper roll apart. Im not that worried though as my Dad is surely looking forward to getting to know Akira well. He would never admit it, but he loves the idea of a big, strong, tough, confident dog. He will deal with all the crazy stuff and my Mom will just deal with sweet, sleepy Akira. My Mom tends to be extremely over dramatic of most things (see my last trip report about her verklempt coffee face, which we still mock). We have begun Akiras socializing (no petting allowed from people that arent family) and we brought her to the Irish pub we visit. Its great pub that always makes us feel like we are in World Showcase because its Authentic and they play Irish music...and theres booze, haha. Akira did great and was on guard the entire time! She watches EVERYTHING with a suspicious look.

AkiraChen.jpg

(she is gonna kill me if she see's I posted a pic of her w/o makeup haha) In her defense, she was very tired from work that day.

Akira will be fine and my wife and I have a lot things to square away in terms of getting new clothes, Disney gift cards for F&W and we seem to always need new sneakers and/or sandals when we got to Disney, even though our current shoes are just fine, lol. My wife started the food prep last night though. She stopped by Whole Foods and loaded up on snacks (healthy, gluten free snacks :cautious:). I told her this doesnt mean that I wont get my daily sweet treats! She did a good job though an stocked up well!

wholefoods1.jpg

wholefoods2.jpg

Not exactly what I would buy, but at least its healthy! My wife is slightly intolerant to gluten. Nothing major, but it keeps her from getting stuffy and headaches. I reluctantly oblige and do my best to enjoy the gluten free foods she buys. Akira enjoys dragging the bag around as well.

I did get a bonus for our trip yesterday as well. If you recall, I mentioned how our original trip plans were dashed due to the AP discount room fiasco I had. So yesterday morning we got our confirmation for our DVC room at BCV and I was feeling less upset about loosing out on YC so I sent a polite email to Disney about the situation. I explained the situation and simply asked what I did wrong in attempting to get my AP room discount. I truly just wanted an answer and didnt ask for anything other than that. I CC'd the email to several executive offices and apparently that worked out well as I received a phone call within an hour of sending the email. I was shocked. The woman asked me several questions and (sort of) explained what went wrong. She hinted at the fact that it was a bad situation on both ends and offered a gift card that would be waiting for us upon our arrival at the front desk. I told her that wasnt necessary but she said she would send it anyway. I thanked her and as we hung up, my wife called and I told her the good news. Her response? "Im getting the expensive wine!" lol. The funniest thing about the situation is that I also received an email from George Kalogridis office yesterday morning, (not from him, just from his office). It was in regards to an email I sent last September about my disappointment in the decision to put Frozen in Norway. The email explained that the response took so long because it was just seen yesterday when cleaning out a spam folder. ??? Either way, it was the standard response email that dint say much else. I had a good laugh about it with the rep who had called me.

So, a sweet little bonus put a smile on our faces and we briefly discussed a few options. Whenever we discuss plans for the trip, it just boils down to, "we are gonna be at F&W that day, so lets just play it by ear". We still have our single ADR for Biergarten. We will probly make some FP+ selections soon too. This morning, We talked about getting Memory Maker. Well, I brought it up as she was curling her hair. Not the best time to ask your wife something. She said we will look into tonight. Id love to hear anybodys opinion on it who has tried it. I like the idea of not having to use my phone or camera as much since we can just get the Disney photographers to take em. But it also feels like we wouldnt have as many pictures as usual and I would wind up whipping out my camera anyway. The value seems reasonable and I like that you get the on ride photos (dont you?) and I wont have to be "that guy" who is taking a picture of the screen with the on ride photos displayed. Anybody reading this please let me know your experience. Thx!

Thats it for today! Thanks as always for reading along! looking forward to any into Memory Maker and we will try and put together a roughplan for our must dos at F&W

A firm believer in the memory maker! We got it for our trip last October and have it again for November. My main argument....when we went in 2013, we got a great family photo on Splash Mountain that I couldn't pass up. I paid $25-$30 for the package for 2 5x7's and some wallets. With the memory maker, it costs me 10¢ to print it out at Walmart! Plus, my husband and I had fun pestering all the photo pass people throughout the parks! If we saw one, we took advantage because why not?? Tower of Terror and Mine Train also include videos in the deal. I still used my camera for other photos but it's a nice fun bonus!

If we're going for five days or more we get it and have three times now and will get it again in December. All the ride pics and videos are a bonus now plus they have been getting creative with the regular photo ops too and creating animated pictures where things like Baymax will appear and disappear from your picture. I still end up taking a ton of pictures when we get it but I don't have to worry about getting pictures of us since the PP folks do that for me.

Nice thing about MM for me was that I was actually in a few pictures. :D
I guess not being in most pictures is the price you pay when you hit the skill level you have reached! Id seriously trade half my vacation photos for just a a few of the quality of yours, lol. Seriously though, you make a good point as a majority of our photos are just one of us taking a pic of the other as we dont usually bother people to take one of us together.

To amp you up even more for F&W I've decided to start a game between us; I'm calling it "Suddenly Beer". The rule is simple, for no specific reason we post a beer pic of what we're drinking to other's TR. When SB occurs is totally random and totally awesome.
Boom! Suddenly Beer:
Heavy Seas Red Sky at Morning: Chardonnay barrel aged Saison 10%ABV

And, yes, that is my "Drink of the day" glass from The Dream in the background, I aint ashamed!

Akira is so cute and so smart! I think she's going to be a fabulous watch dog for your family. And your wife looks lovely in that picture even without makeup; she's lucky that she's a natural beauty.

Three weeks will go by quickly, and before you know it, you'll be back in WDW! Can't wait to read more updates about the trip, and of course, anything fun that's going on in Akira's life, too! :joyfull:

I meant to ask you about the red, harness-style leash set on Akira. Recall reading somewhere that (some) dogs can pull even more with those, because they pull with their chest muscles, when out on a leashed walk. As she grows, will you keep the harness, or replace it with just a neck collar and leash? (I imagine if she's properly trained to walk with the owner, then whether or not she wears a harness would be a moot point.) I know you're big on training. Again, I'm just more curious about the harness. I never used one on my dog, because he's too strong (he had minimal group class training years ago--but the brute certainly needed more! :p). Somehow, I think that Akira will respond better to training than my dog. :)

Oh, I also like Akira's stylish Chanel sunglasses on the table. ;) :D

You are correct about the harness and it actually promotes them to pull more than a leash would. At Akiras age though, its ok for her to pull but she is doing well with the leash and the harness. We just use the harness if we are out in public with her for control purposes. As she ages she will only require a leash and strong, comfortable leather collar.

The wife works for Chanel and has more sunglasses than I count, yet I still dont have a nice pair??? Pretty sure she thinks I would loose or break them, which I probly would, lol. Ill stick with my cheap gas station bought sun glasses, haha

A game that involves beer???? Say no more!!! Im in!

I'm SO glad we had MM!!! I'd say get it! We got some really great pictures of us while we were there and that had ALL of us in them! I am normally taking all the pictures so it was nice to be in some. Plus they are pretty good pictures! My cell phone is okay, and my camera is pretty good, but these pictures were clear, and good quality! I'm REALLY glad we did it!

Wife and I agree that MM is a god idea, but our only concern is that we are doing a 5 day trip and not sure if thats long enough to get enough pics to make it feel worth the $169 (or whatever the price is). We were discussing if we would be willing to stop and get a picture every time we see a Dis photographer. I do like that you get all the on ride photos because I love acting like an idiot in those pictures and doing dumb stuff (nothing that would merit a photo being censored). For those that have done it, do you think a 5 day trip is long enough to get a good value or is better to wait for a longer trip? I understand that the value lies within an individuals perception, just asking how others opinions or if you felt a slave to getting a picture everytime you saw a photographer? I feel like if I passed one by I would be loosing money in a sense.

We saw a lot we didn't' stop at and still got 330 pictures in 6 days. The on ride stuff was pretty cool too. We did usually have to wait behind 2 or 3 people, but sometimes you could walk right up! It only takes a few moments for them to snap a few pictures that you will have forever! I think it'd be worth it for 5 days.
