I don't know if this has been disscussed, to what length or even if this is the correct section of the forum for it, but I thought it might be fun to speculate. As of the last time I checked/heard, our ToT (Tower of Terror, for those like me who don't know all the site's acronyms) is staying, but the Twilight Zone theme is due to depart, so...

What would our Tower of Terror without the Twilight Zone be? Are there any rumors to the direction they might take? Speculation? Maybe another S.E.A./Hightower descendant storyline?

Much like the Ghost Host, it'd be difficult for me to imagine the ride without the enigmatic voice of Rod Serling.

What do y'all think? Have fun, and be nice ;o)

Theres already a back story to TOT and how it came to be the way it is. If Disney lost their mind and removed the Twilight Zone part of the preshow, it could still stand on its own.

It would still have the same feel to it, just that the setup would be different. No Rod Sterling and no Twilight Zone talk. Same basic explanation though.

It will either get a Disney/Marvel/Lucas/Pixar IP makeover or they'll use the original story from Tokyo's version or something similar.

Tokyo's storyline for their TOT could very well be adapted to the HWS version, all they would do is modify the story to fit American audiences and the location of the hotel. The plot line could be similar, except it may take place in Hollywood rather than in New York.

The exact same story could be told, the events just not happening as a Twilight Zone episode. ;)

'You have now entered...the Fifth Dimension'. A place, or time, were time-space is warped, and you are stuck forever, or wherever.

Which could be said to be the theme, the time and place of all of the imaginary Hollywood golden era of the entire DHS front half. The visitor to DHS enters a place where time is stuck just like the captives on ToT. Just a desired permanently stuck time warp, rather than a spooky one. Both left to dwell a place in between 30's art deco, the glamour of 40's Hollywood, and the whacky of 50's black and white tv.

The Twilight Zone of ToT just as much as its 1939 atmosphere connects ToT with the Golden Era of Hollywood, an imaginary time-place. Black and White tv connects ToT all the way to the 50s Prime Time, and to the sci-fi crazed 50's era of the Sci-Fi dine-in. Pretty much the three furthermost extents of one of the greatest, most accomplished Disney park areas. It would be a shame if ToT were to drop the Twilight Zone aspect, it works in many subtle ways.

Someone tell me they haven't lost their minds and are taking the Twilight Zone portion out. That music - which is played throughout the ride - is part of what makes that ride what it is. It sets the mood and the atmosphere. Are they changing it?

I'm no "spirit", but I have talked to a few -- highly credible ones -- and that is the plan. The TZ contract is up in less than 5 years, I believe. Word is "The Hollywood Tower Hotel" is staying (for now), and the TZ will go away. That is why I am curious as to what they'll do. As mentioned above, yes the Tower has a backstory, but what voice will give the ominous -- and much needed in the dead space -- exposition? What kind of "Ghost Host" character will they create to tell the story? If it's anything like the atrocious lady in the PhotoPass video, we're doomed.

They need to leave the classics alone. This is something Disney doesn't get. They have more than enough space to build around things. Walt was smart enough from 1955 to his death in 1966 to leave the originals alone. We know Walt was always about ideas but he also was nostalgic and knew how to let sleeping dogs lie.

I agree. IMO the Tower of Terror has earned it's spot on the pantheon of classic attractions alongside The Haunted Mansion & Pirates.

Disney can be really bad at alienating the fans sometimes. The reception was horrible from the fans when it was announced Guardians of the Galaxy was going to replace ToT in Disneyland. This is one of the reasons fans come back year after year. My grandparents were at WDW in 1973 and they were in their 60s at that time. It matters to me that the Country Bear Jamboree is still there, just like back then. There is a tie to the past that way. This is why we keep coming back. We recognize the place and it is home. You can make changes without ruining the core of the park. Universal is bad at ripping out the heart of their park for new and supposedly better things but Disney was always pretty good at maintaining their core. They are getting worse though.

In all the years Tower of Terror has been there, I've never been on it. Too scared of a straight down drop, all though I now, after many years of fears about coasters, can go on them, but I'm still afraid of the elevator drops of ToT. I'm afraid of how they'll make my stomach feel. Well, I guess I should start working on my sense of courage, since if I tarry too long, I may never get to experience this attraction while it's there!

It will still be there with the drop, it just won't be themed to the Twilight Zone. You got time.

There are some great voices to draw from.... like Orson Wells or Vincent Price. Their voice tones can still put a chill down my spine.

I've only done the ride once (my evil teen age DDs talked me into it). That was more than enough for me. But I really love the theming - one of the best in WDW. So every visit I go thru the queue with DH. And then I take the chicken exit, while DH goes on the actual ride. Win win for both of us. Try that on your next trip.
